Alonzo not understanding how to control his emotion cost him his life; so many people similar to Alonzo lose their life because they don’t understand how to move on. One positive thing this movie showed is that if you don’t control your anger you can lose your life; this is an example of showing you calm down or your end up being Alonzo. Another positive thing this movie shows is if you help others it can save your life, when officer Hoyt helped that little girl it ended up saving his life. The negative part of this movie was showing how you can manipulate a man into thinking you’re his friend and using him. Alonzo’s partnership with officer Hoyt was nothing but manipulation. Another negative thing about this movie was it showed how even detective’s are not protected by the law they try to force on citizens. Alonzo was a high ranked officer and the law he represented couldn’t save him from being shot. This show you that cops are a small fish and can be taken out by other
Alonzo says that he would have Jake’s blood falsified in exchange for Jake’s cooperation. Jake has to agree at this point. Alonzo again urges Jake to drop his naïve view of police work. Alonzo abuses his “authority, power, persuasion, and force” (187, Pollack) throughout this entire film.
The movie Training Day presents various scenarios of ethical issues and dilemmas. Denzel Washington plays the role of crooked undercover narcotics detective Alonzo Harris, while Ethan Hawke plays new recruit officer Jake Hoyt, who is fighting to do the right thing. Detective Harris believes in street justice while Hoyt disapproves. He exposes officer Hoyt to many situations where he has to decide if he wants to be a part of the team or stand up for justice. Officer Hoyt will have to use his morals and ethical judgment to help him battle through training day.
To begin we need to understand the police subculture that is involved throughout the events of Training Day. To do this we look at the characters involved. Jake Hoyt is an officer that is attempting to join the narcotics division of his police service. Throughout the beginning of the movie he is interested in establishing a relationship with his new
Glory is the story of Robert Gould Shaw and his command over the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, which was one of the first all-black active duty regiments in the Union Army in November of 1862. The movie speaks of Colonel (Col) Shaw’s bravery, his pride, his empathy and love for his Soldiers. Col Shaw himself was from a wealthy Boston family with parents who were influential abolitionists. At 23 years old, Robert Shaw dropped out of Harvard to be commissioned in the Union Army to fight in the Civil War of the States. This movie is based on a true story and the letters that Robert Shaw wrote home and in his personal journal are currently located in the Houghton Library of Harvard University. The movie is based on the factual accounts of these letters. The manner in which Robert Shaw led the 54th Infantry was a direct result of his first experience in combat; it was the Battle of Antietam (Maryland).
Accepting relationships have the ability to allow individuals in society to deal with their inner conflicts. This establishes the beginning of transformation a feeling of belonging. The film Glory, directed by Edward Zwick, allows the audience to discover the significant American Civil War that raged through America for four years. In 1860 black people were treated unfairly and inhumanely. This film explores this along with the long lasting effects of racism and bigotry on relationships with others and society. Black slaves are freed in america and join the army. In the confrontation scene, Trip and rawlins, two black men from the army, confront each other. Zwick utilises the alternating close ups of the two men to allow the audience to experience the tension between them that enables Trip, the protagonist, to finally deal with his inner conflicts. This tough relationship seen in the colloquial language “But you ain’t gonna be anything to him but a ugly-ass chimp in a blue suit.” elucidates the derogatory reference of a chimp. This allows Trip to realise he is not the only black person treated unfairly, therefore he shouldn't take his inner conflicts out on others. Having relationships like Trips and Rawlins often gives individuals the ability to reflect upon themselves. In the next lake scene, a mid shot of Trip and Robert, the colonel, is utilised by Zwick to display the characters and also the water behind Trip that represents tranquility and the cleansing of his internal

In the beginning of the movie, Jake Hoyt is introduced to the audience with his wife and 9-month-old daughter. Hoyt is told over the phone by Alonzo Harris, the 13 year veteran narcotic agent to not follow department rules and go to roll call but to meet in at a certain location. Jake being the well-mannered person he is follows the agent who he will be training him, his orders. The initial meeting with Alonzo and Jake is very upfront. Alonzo quickly shows sign of disrespect by cutting Jake off while speaking saying things to make Jake feel uncomfortable. However, Jake being unsure of how the day will pan out he continues with his day of training.
In the years leading up to the Civil War there was an abolitionist movement in the United States. This was primarily a northern state movement; the southern states relied heavily on slave labor to work their fields. As the war raged on, the Union government decided it would confiscate the property of Confederate sympathizers, this included slaves. As the slaves were confiscated they were sent behind Union lines and were then declared free. The film Glory tells the story of the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry; the first all-black unit in the Union Army…made up of free black men and freed slaves.
Alonzo is by no means a soft hearted police officer, feared by the neighborhood in which he lives, officer Harris is known to have the power to bring down anyone who opposes him. At one point, he enters a private resident using a Chinese menu as a ploy for a fake warrant, steals what he knows is drug money. All this in order to pay off city officials to get a warrant on a large drug distributor he had
The “Lost Battalion” film was a great film about World War One. It showed a lot about the horrors of the war. It also brilliantly depicted the reality of the war.
The movie, Glory, tells a story of the 54th regiment of Massachusetts journey in the Civil War. The 54th regiment was the first group of freed African Americans who volunteered to fight in the Union army. The film describes the journey of these brave men as they face prejudice to fight in the Union army and how they sacrificed their lives to fight for the cause of freedom. The film captures the heroic acts of the 54th regiment of black soldiers and their leader Colonel Robert Shaw.
It made really made me think if what the characters are doing morally wrong. Both cops handle justice a different way and no one taught Jake that the world is cruel, and twisted. This eventually causes the climactic intense ending, and will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Although I enjoy this movie there is somethings that could be better. For instance the movie has a slow start. I’m not going to lie, I did skip a bit to the ride along, for it was boring. I also would make a scene more believable, but I digress because if it was the movie wouldn't be able to continue. Overall this movie contained major keys to make it interesting.
When it comes to the film industry, entertainment is the tool used to acquire what is desired, money. The main goal for filmmakers when they create a film is to attain money in addition to the money spent to make the movie. Therefore, in some films that they like to base off of true accounts, it is somewhat necessary to dramatize or embellish the story to really tug at the heartstrings of the films audience. They achieve this goal by the use of dramatic music, ambient lighting, and a small amount of tweaked diction. The Fighter is an excellent example of this dramatization in action because throughout the film the characters are faced with a multitude of decisions that must be made. The choices they make require the characters to choose
“The Story of an Hour” tells the story about Mrs. Mallard, who learns that her husband is dead and right after that faces a great variety of emotions and feelings. Mrs. Mallard has a heart problem. One day she gets news that her husband has died in a railroad disaster. She starts crying at once, goes upstairs and locks herself in her room. She feels very lonely at first but then she starts feeling happy and free from her marriage. After some time she opens the door and descends the stairs. She surprisingly sees Mr. Mallard at the door. When she looks at Mr. Mallard, she dies suddenly. The doctor says that she dies of her heart disease, from the "joy that kills." This story illustrates the dependent condition and status of married women in the 19th century and reveals the fact that there is no way of escaping from marriage except one’s death.
Forrest Gump is a movie that was released in the summer of 1994 and is based on a novel by the same name that was written by Winston Groom almost a decade earlier in 1986. The movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Paramount Pictures. The film features Tom Hanks as the main character Forrest Gump who is a slow-witted character but also has a heart of gold and is extremely courageous. The supporting cast consists of Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan), Robin Wright (Forrest’s mother) , Sally Field(Jenny) , Mykelti Williamson (Bubba), among others. In this critique I will be summarizing the plot and analyzing what I liked and disliked about the movie and whether it stands the test of time.
