What constitutes as a luxury is dependent on each person's individual beliefs, and many people have something that they are able to take advantage of. For some people, they take advantage of material objects like clothing or food, while others take advantage of nonmaterial things such as their place in society or their career. Something that most people do not think of as a luxury, but as a necessity is transportation. Specifically, the ability to own a car. To many people, a car is not considered a luxury, but a right. While everyone should own a car, not everyone has the means to buy and maintain a vehicle. Those who can not afford a car are left using the public transportation system by means of last resort. The use of public transportation is inconvenient when one is trying to travel anywhere in an efficient and timely manner. Too many individuals, the bus is their only mode of transportation and is something that needs to run seamlessly. The public transportation system seems to be used more by people who have time rather than those who use it because of financial reasons.
The price difference between buses and cars is monetarily diverse. Buses are a highly utilized mode of transportation and are readily available, relatively inexpensive, and convenient to find. The standard cost of a bus is $1.60 for an adult and $0.75 for a child or a senior citizen (NJ TRANSIT). Although a little over a dollar does not sound like a steep price, the daily use of a bus can add up
Public transportation provides numerous positive attributes to the community at large. It enhances personal opportunities by providing personal mobility and freedom, gives people transportation options to get to work, go to school, visit friends, or go to a doctor’s office, provides access to job opportunities. It saves fuel and reduces congestion, provides economic opportunities and drives community growth and revitalization. Statistically, every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, every $10 million in capital investment in public transportation yields $30 million in increased business sales, every $10 million in operating investment yields $32 million in increased business sales, and from 2006-2011, residential property values performed 42 percent better on average if they were located near public transportation with high-frequency service. Public transportation saves money and reduces gasoline consumption. According to APTA’s transit saving report, a two-person household can save, on the average, more than $10,174 a year by downsizing to one car. Public transportation use in the United States saves 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually and households near public transit drive an average of 4,400 fewer miles than households with no access to public transit. Public transportation also reduces the carbon footprint in that its use
The top issue in Toronto was the poor performance of public transit such as buses, streetcars, and subway trains. The TTC system is of very bad performance that even many transit systems in third- world countries provide users with better experiences than trasit users have in Toronto. The current major problems with TTC are: crowding during rush periods and insufficient ridership to justify reasonable service levels at other times. Another problem was that Rob Ford was unwilling to accept a proposal to reduce monitoring of fare payment. “I have problems with the honour system,” he said. John Tory opposed the recommendations because they are not funded. But funding such service changes
Firstly, the easiest and quickest way to travel around New York City is by public transportation especially subways. Riding the subway is also a fantastic way to feel like a local during their stay in New York. However, New York has the largest subway system in the city. It’s the cheapest one for the people to get into long distance traveling. Whereas, the public transportation in the New York City called ( ). On other hand, Amsterdam transportation called ( ). In Amsterdam the transportation tickets is by hours. In my opinion, it consider good idea by having a look around the city by one ticket. However, they have a ticket for 24 hours. In this case it’s easier for the people, because in this way especially the new people visiting new city

Luxury means the state of great comfort and extravagant living or an unnecessary but desirable item. Actually, the word Luxury is not the same with everyone and some people do not exactly interpret this word similar in the dictionary. They feel that it’s beyond that and the definition seems to be hard to fathom.
Globally, cities are facing problems of the population is living over a greater distance and travelling further and more often (). Oil consumption is increasing but the supply is not increasing. Local governments are facing the issue of how do they plan a city that can accommodate these changes? Four studies reviewed cities and how the transportation is effecting the city. The case study cities were Christchurch, New Zealand and Minneapolis, United States of America. This cities are similar because they both have large populations living in suburbs who have to travel long distances for work, school, leisure, socialising and more. In both cities, cars are stilled the popular mode of transport. Transport can have effects on the surrounding land but not all the time. People are traveling to work differently to previous generations. All of these issues explain the situation of the transport systems in Christchurch and Minneapolis.
I was born and raised in the Philippines. In 2014, we moved into the United States. My friends usually ask me, “How’s it living in America compared here in the Philippines?”. Moving to another country was a huge, scary, life-changing leap. People will leave behind everything they have developed to know, and begin to grow into new cultures and traditions. Some of the things I observed that differs between Filipinos and Americans were about celebrations, means of transportation and general things of culture.
1. Use Public Transportation- Saving begins at the airport. All major tourist destinations offer city transportation from the airport at a cost of $3-5, compared to a taxi at $42-one way! Forget taxis altogether, and take the subway. It saves time and lots of money! 2. Dine like a Local- Very few things make a country prouder than it 's food heritage. Spain is home to some of the best restaurants in the world. Your budget may not allow for a 5 star meal at El Bulli, but you can still find indulgence in the local gourmet specialties. Adapting to the Spanish meal schedule allows you to live like a local, and can also save you big bucks. Bars offer a typical breakfast of Cafe con Leche and a croissant, for around $3. Lunch is the largest meal of the day, (followed by the infamous siesta!). During the week, restaurants throughout the country offer a 3 course menu, the Menu del Dia. It usually costs between $7-12, and is large enough to tide you over to the 10pm dinnertime. Some people stop at a bar after work for a beer and an evening snack, called tapas (a tradition that every traveler wants to experience). Avoid fancy "tapa bars"; these are generally over-priced, mediocre tourist traps. The best tapas are found at traditional Spanish restaurants; they are also the least expensive, and great for a completely authentic Spanish experience. Another great way to save on food is to join the locals shopping at the extraordinary markets Spain is famous for. Buy market fresh produce
If you live in Toronto one thing that you will always be 100% certain with is that everybody there is constantly on the move in the city. Everyone has their own way of getting around the city for example by cars, buses and even the subway but one means of transportation commonly used and that is fairly unique to Toronto is streetcars. But after 2013 the story of Sammy Yatim changed the way how people viewed how safe they really were on public transit. The reason for that is because Sammy Yatim was an 18-year-old resident of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On July 27th, 2013, while on board a streetcar, Sammy brandished a knife causing other passengers and the streetcar operator to flee the vehicle. Police responded to numerous 911 calls about the incident. During the interaction with Toronto police officers, Sammy was shot by Constable James Forcillo and later died from the injuries he sustained. Shortly after the incident, cell phone video footage of a portion of the interaction was posted on the Internet. There was immediate and strong reaction, by the public, resulting in numerous demonstrations. During these demonstrations many participants carried placards and signs indicating they wanted, “Justice 4 Sammy “. This just goes to show the police brutality that happens in Toronto. But what is it that the protesters wanted justice for exactly? After looking into the case it looked like the message that they were trying to get across was that the force that was used against Mr.Yatim was way too excessive and totally uncalled for and shows how some police officers misuse their power and weapons. The outcome of this event was a protest in memory of Sammy Yatim that later on became a general airing of grievances against police. Protesters brought white T-shirts to the vigil that said, "Protect us from our protectors" with a picture of Mr. Yatim below these words. After the people were tired of not voicing their opinion and see that police excessively using force is happening more often than it show which just make people fear the very people that should be protecting them. For example in 2009, a team of two police detectives got into a fight with members of the Khan family in Toronto. They brought an action against the
Public transportation is always one of the biggest issues in many countries. Developing underground public transportation is one of the best solutions but there are lots of public constructions which are developed underground such as subway, MRT, and sewers which mean an underground construction is a complex project with risky and more dynamic, but because of the economic growth, public construction is needed in order to satisfy the needs of people in the metropolis or rural areas.
Currently there are already a few alternatives to cars available to a large amount of people, the most prevalent of these being public transport systems which count towards about 16% of commuters as their usual method of transport in the UK[6]. In the future we will probably see more alternatives such as driver-less cars, notably one being developed by google, and some even speculate as to more science fiction like modes of transportation e.g. “According to Shaw, in the future everyone will use telekinetically controlled hover-boards” [1]. The question is somewhat speculative at best as there are too many factors currently involved as to the requirement of cars both now and in the future.
In today 's world Public transport has become a necessity, “it is a crucial part of the solution to any nation’s economic, energy, and environmental challenges - helping to bring a better quality of life. In increasing numbers, people are using public transportation and local communities are expanding public transit services” (“Public transportation benefits,” 2014). It not only helps create a greater sense of community between customers from the local community but also creates a healthier environment because it is less stressful than having to drive in traffic; it is also more accessible and economical for people as it is cheaper and easier to commute and is also good for the environment as use of public transport decreases the usage of cars which reduces pollution and increases over road hazards, etc (“Benefits of public transport,” 2015). Toronto is one of the most populous cities in Ontario which is why a city like Toronto, driving is a hassle thus public transit is a great way get around, it is not only safe but also quick and economical. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is the company which provides public transport within the city of Toronto.

They are both very good means of transportation but they have their similarities and differences. These two means of transportation will always get you were you need to be. There are many reasons that can be examined like comfortableness, how much it cost to use, and how much safer the bus really is.
The future of transportation will most likely be very different to current transportation systems. Current projections say that the world 's crude oil supply will be gone by 2070. The demand for alternative options of transportation methods is increasing at a rapid rate. These new opportunities are expected to bring new modes of transportation and transportations services in the coming years. Some of these new modes include electric cars, nuclear cars, hydrogen vehicles, and autonomous vehicles. All of these new transportation ideas will make a profound effect of the world as we know it today. All of these new ideas will reduce pollution in the world and lower are dependence on fossil fuels.
