Brazil has been around for over 100 year and still one of the most beautiful places in the world. Many people have seen movies shot in Brazil and always wonder what it would be like to visit there, but don’t know anything about it. Brazil is a perfect place to go a vacation, there's many historical places to visit, different foods to try, people could learn about their culture, and to see one of the greatest monument in the world, Christ the Redeemer.
Brazil was officially discovered in the 1500s by Pedro Álvares Cabral, when he was traveling to India. In the 16th century france tried to gain military and political power to take over brazil, but their were unsuccessful. On September 7th, 1822, the prince of brazil, Dom Pedro got Brazil their independence. Brazil was found actually, over 8,000 years ago. The Portuguese were the first European settlers to arrive there. The journey was led by Pedro Cabral who began in the 1500s. When they finally got there they found Native Americans living there. They were around the seven millions.

There were many events leading up to Brazil’s independence. It started when, Napoleon marched through Spain and demanded Portugal to close the ports with the British. This was a problem, because Portugal made money through the British ports. Joao, Prince of Portugal, considered moving Portugal’s capital to Brazil so that they could continue to make money. Napoleon was not happy with Joao’s idea and invaded Portugal. Joao set for South America to set up Brazil as Portugal’s new port. But, first the people of Portugal stopped in Bahia. Joao met the governor of Bahia and the governor asked Joao to open Brazil’s ports to international trade. After their stop in Bahia the Portuguese sailed to Rio de Janeiro. By opening up the ports, Joao helped the Brazilian economy. While still in Brazil, Joao changed the name of his empire to The United Kingdom of Portugal and Brazil. This title provided the Brazilians with a sense of pride and fed their desire to independence. At this time, Portugal was in the process of a Revolution and demanded Joao to come back to Portugal. Brazil is a tropical country located in South America with a large population (“The World Factbook: BRAZIL”). According to CIA, the world population is 205, 823, 665 (“The World Factbook: BRAZIL”). With such a large population, the country is filled with a vast array of cultures. Brazil has influences from countries such as Italy, Spain, and Germany (“The World Factbook: BRAZIL”). Although there are so many different cultures influencing the country, Brazil has managed to maintain one major religion overall. According to the CIA, the major religion in Brazil is Roman Catholic, with 64.6% of the population having this as their religion (“The World Factbook: BRAZIL”). Overall, Brazil is a huge country with many different cultural influences.
Now that we went through the history, geography and culture of Brazil, I will tell you a little bit about what you should know when planning a trip to Brazil. Brazil is known for its beautiful beaches and according to Trip Advisor; some Brazilian beaches are in the top 10 travelers’ choice of 2013 (http://www.tripadvisor.com/TravelersChoice-Beaches-cDestinations-g1). Brazil has more than stunning beaches though. It also has famous waterfalls, known as Iguaçu Falls. These waterfalls are located in the Argentina and Brazil border and are composed of 275 drops. Besides having beautiful beaches and amazing waterfalls, Brazil also has places that resemble Europe, such as Campos do Jordao. In Campos do Jordao you will experience unique panoramic views and numerous outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain climbing, and treetop cable swings. So as you can see, there are a huge variety of places you can visit, and things you can do in Brazil.
Rio offers a cable car to travel in and out of the slum neighborhoods, but if hang in for the ride youĺl get a great view of the city. Locally known as the CCBB, the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil is home to art and history exhibits that are ever-changing. Also inside are two theatres and a cinema. If it´s a rainy day this is a good place to visit because there is always something going on inside. Stop by and see one of the seven wonders of the world- the 40 meter tall Jesus (Christ the Redeemer) statue. The viewing platform allows breathtaking views over the city. Another major activity to check out is hang gliding. Hang gliding in Rio is a very special experience considering all the views. You could be face to face with the towering 40 meter tall Christ the Redeemer statue, get an overview of the Two Brother Peaks, peer into the luxurious waters of the beaches, and get a bird's eye view of all the animals hanging in the rain
Perched on top of Corcovado “Hunchback” Mountain, an incredible monument stands tall and welcomes those who take a moment to marvel at its beauty; its arms wide open as it looms over the cities and beaches of Rio de Janeiro.
