Brazil borders every nation except Chile and Ecuador. Brazil is divided into Brazilian Highlands, or plateau, in the South American River Basin in the North. Brazil has rainforests, rivers, grasslands, and beaches. Brazil has more people and land than any other place in South America. Over a third of Brazil is covered by the Amazon and it’s over 200 tributaries. There are many rivers in Brazil. One major river is the Amazon River and it’s actually the second largest river in the world. The Amazon River is anywhere between 6,259 km / 3,903 mi and 6,712 km/ 4,195 mi long. The Amazon River supplies 20 percent of all the water that the world’s rivers pour into the ocean. Brazil also has rainforests. The name Brazil comes from Pau Brasil. There are around 145 million people living in Brazil, most of them near the coast. The population is growing rapidly and half of all Brazilians are under the age of 20. By the end of the century, it is estimated that Brazil’s population will have reached 180 million. Brazil borders on ten other Latin American countries.

Today Brazil with a GDP of $2.533 trillion is the 7th largest economy in the world and it is also considered as one of the most successful emerging countries. Despite all predictions, thanks to its huge domestic market and agriculture, the country maintained its growth in 2009 and 2010.

The Federative Republic of Brazil is the fifth largest country by geographical area in South America. Currently, “Brazil has a population of over 207 million making it the 5th largest country in the world”(IBGE, 2017). Brasilia is the capital, and Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil with population over 11 million people.

Much like the U.S., Brazilian culture is extremely diverse. Brazil’s current population of 190 million represents various nationalities from European to African (Country Facts). Brazil has an extremely diverse culture with some common pervasive threads that grouped together give Brazil a national identity.

In order to completely grasp the colonization of Brazil, one must first take a look at the different global forces that shaped the settlement and growth of Brazil. Beginning with the first inhabitants of Brazil in order to fully understand how it all began, then moving on to when the Portuguese arrived in 1500, and finally understanding how Brazil gained its independence will successfully explain how different global forces shaped the settlement and growth of Brazil. Factors that are still apart of Brazil today due to European colonization is the huge population of indigenous people living in the jungles of Brazil and the extremely intermingled population. Without the European explorers sailing to Brazil the population might of never, or at least to the intensity of it today, be intermixed. The indigenous people may still life on the outskirts of Brazil, instead of never being forced inward into the jungle.

Fire and foremost, how did Brazil all start? Or what’s its history? In the 1500’s Brazil was founded by Pedro Cabral. So called adventurous Pedro Cabral was from Portugal and since the poverty was horrid he decided to look for new land. Pedro and some other Portuguese explorers joined him in his journey to find new land. When they arrived, they were the first European settlers to arrive in Brazil. But they weren’t alone, in fact, they reportedly found around 7 million Native Indians. But most of the Native Indians didn’t mind the Europeans at all. Mainly because most tribes were peripatetic which means they didn’t stay in one place, they moved around from place to place. When they arrived limited housing and agriculture was visible. But the

More than 8000 years ago, the Portuguese were the first European settlers to arrive in Brazil, led by Pedro Cabral. Other explorers followed Cabral, searching for valuable goods for trade, unsettled land, and to escape poverty in Portugal. The Portuguese settlers in Brazil were less focused on conquering the country, but they were more interested in trade and agriculture. Since there was a lot of trade going on, slaves were a popular in the market. Settlers frequently married with the Indians and the African slaves. As a result, Brazil's population is mixed with various types of cultures. Most Brazilians are a combination of European, African, Amerindian, Asian, and Middle Eastern lineage to this day.

The official language in Brazil is Portuguese and the country has an approximate population of 184 million people. (National Geographic ) They’re well known for their passion for Soccer, as they have produced some of the best players in the sport and hosted the Fifa world cup this past summer. They have won the World cup, five times, more than any other country.

The earliest inhabitants of Brazil were the Indians. However, the country’s recorded history begins with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1500. The Portuguese sailor Pedro Alvares Cabral visited the continent we call South America, eight years after Columbus arrived in America. Portuguese settlers followed, calling the new colony Brazil, after the brazilwood tree that they extracted red dye from. The Portuguese did not bring prosperity and progress to the Indians. Instead, they unintentionally infected and killed thousands of Indians with diseases such as measles and smallpox.

Brazil is often viewed as a fun filled country, with beautiful beaches, beautiful people and fantastic soccer players. While all of these may hold true, especially the soccer part, having won 5 FIFA World Cups and also hosting the 2014 version of the event, Brazil has proven to be an emerging market with a lot of potential. Based on the East coast and stretching well into the central area of South America, the Federative Republic of Brazil, as it is officially known as, is a country made up of 26 states and it occupies almost half of the South American continent. Brazil is located in South America. It comprises half the area of South America and has a total surface area of 3,287,612 square miles. Peru’s coastline is the Pacific Ocean and Brazils is the Atlantic that in its self speaks volumes for the shear mass of Brazil.
