In history various societies have had hero’s that have been created or were real dating back to Greek hero’s like Hercules and the medieval hero’s like King Arthur; during the final years of The Great Depression World War II was starting across the ocean in Europe. Out of this dark time came the two greatest heroes of all time; Batman and Superman. Both sixty plus years in print, have acquired a massive fan base. The fan base of the two most major popular of comics have been known to attack one another with claims on who is superior or who is the most interesting. If you had to choose a side which hero would you go with? With all the fan wars the origins of the characters, their secret identities, and the style of justice they deliver have been the basis of determining who is truly the best comic book character. To begin with the origin of each character is significant. Starting with Superman also known as Clark Kent his origin has had many changes since his creation. Essentially his various origin stories all have Superman coming from his home planet of Krypton in a rocket and narrowly escaping the apocalypse that shattered his world; he is sent to the planet Earth where is found by his adopting mother and father Martha Kent and Jonathan Kent. Eventually he leaves Smallville to go to metropolis where he discovers persona Superman where he defends the world from villains like Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Bizzarro and multiple others. Batman, on the other hand has a simple contrast
More than 70 years ago, the very first superheroes debuted in the dire times of the Great Depression and the early years of World War II. Their names became legend Superman and Batman or as he was then known, the Bat-Man), Wonder Woman, Captain America and they 're still with us today. A new exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles celebrates these icons from the Golden Age of Comic Books. Through a collection of rare original artwork and comics, the exhibit explores how a group of mostly Jewish artists created the costumed heroes who came to symbolize the hopes of a beleaguered nation."ln the 1930s, the American Dream had become a nightmare, and I think comic books and superheroes in particular provided an escapist form of entertainment that allowed the American public to go into a fantasy world where all the ills of the world were righted by these larger than-life heroes," says Erin Clancy, a curator at the Skirball. Guest curator Jerry Robinson not only organized the exhibit, he 's a part of it. The comic book pioneer created Batman 's arch-enemy, The Joker, and named the caped crusader 's sidekick Robin.
Bruce Wayne is a very complicated individual due to his hero archetype with wide range persona and visible shadow that presents itself through Batman. The scene that captures overall personality is the scene that shows Alfred and Bruce talking after Rachel Dawes’ death, 1:38:00-1:39:15. The scene opens up with Bruce Wayne sitting in the apartment, in Batman armour, rationalizing the situation and facing the damage that has been caused over his pursuit of the Joker. Bruce Wayne feels as though Gotham city needs a true hero and Batman does not seem to cut it anymore. As he states himself, “Gotham needs its true hero and I let that murdering psychopath blow him half to hell” (Nolan 2008). Bruce sees that he is no longer able to control the situation
An epic is a long narrative poem that tells the exploits of an epic hero. Epics are comprised of an epic hero and an epic battle between good and evil. The earliest known epic today is The Epic of Gilgamesh. This tale is about Gilgamesh’s search for eternal life. Although epics have been around for thousands of years, the epic tradition still has an enormous impact on modern writing and film. In fact, Batman, a story about Bruce Wayne trying to conquer all criminals in Gotham, can be seen as modern epic.
The air smelled sharply of chemicals, and smoke. You can hear sirens from the GCPD cars. The sound blaring from being so close to them was reading to the point when I heard my being called I missed it.
In a very highly tense and stressful situation, people tend to go as far as they can to avoid the situation at all costs. There are only a handful of people who run towards the problem to solve it in hopes to save someone’s life. These people are risking their own lives to save someone in need of aid, all without any money, fame, or endorsements in the future. In today’s society the concept of heroism can make a huge impact on a person’s or society’s view. Heroes help teach us what is right from wrong and constantly role-modeling the concept of persistency such as the very popular superhero Batman. He is persistently fighting crime in Gotham City, and will not stop until the criminals are put to justice. Even though his actions are more violent
The main factor that tells me that Superman is a better Superhero is that fact that he actually has powers whereas Batman has to rely on money. Superman has many powers such as: Extreme strength, invulnerability, heat and x-ray vision, super breath, and flight. Batman on the other hand, has no powers and without his billionaire status, would have never made it as a superhero. In a scenario where Superman and Batman were both dirt poor, Batman would just stay as Bruce Wayne and Superman would still
“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” Said by Bruce Wayne, explains how he feels about what he does as Batman. His actions as Batman prove him as an anti-hero. Christopher Nolan portrays Batman as an antihero through isolation of the character, and a dim setting of the movie.

Is having an alien power the only classification of being a superhero? If you don’t fall into a bucket of radioactive waste can you still be called super? There are many “normal” human people that have taken on the role of a superhero and thus have been deemed fit for the title. Of course they aren’t really normal at all, because they all have those defining attributes to them that characterize them into the “hero” category; such as courage, strength, intelligence, loyalty, etc,. Both Batman and the Scarlet Pimpernel are examples of normal human beings who have taken on the role of a superhero in the eyes of their society. Although they both have qualities that tie them to the name of a superhero, being the humans that they are, make them so very different from each other.
I am enjoying this discussion about Wonder Woman, even though I am not a huge fan of DC Comics or superhero films. However, I love Superman and Wonder Woman films and television series from the 80’s. Remember the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeves and the Wonder Woman television series from the 80s (I grew up in the 80s)?
Pop Matters is a credible and trustworthy website because the author of this article, Richard Giraldi knows about the topic well and found other sources that support his claim such as other comic books, fan views about the Superman and Batman battle, and uses quotes from other Batman and Superman graphic novels to use as facts for his claim. Furthermore, the authors of the Batman and Superman graphic novels stated why there was a battle between those superheroes, which proves why Giraldi’s statement is not bias. Pop Matters is a news website for films, books, and music and the articles are based off of
Hey look! It’s a bird, a plane, its Superman! The common phrase for a hero like Superman. But, what about anti-hero Macomber, a character written by Ernest Hemingway in the book called The Short Happy Life? Throughout history we have seen millions of heroes and anti-heroes. Heroes are people who sacrifice their lives to save others, while anti-heroes does the same thing, only they lack the moral codes that heroes follow. They are both different because of one thing, their views about appearance. Appearance describes one’s personality, strength, and gives them an honorable title. Heroes, like Superman, do not get caught up with their appearance, instead heroes would sacrifice their lives in order to save others. Unlike anti-heroes, like Macomber,
This week’s article is not as poetic as the title sets it out to be. This is not a story between a non-fictional man and his unlucky challenger. There is no such thing as a man that is super but there is the idea of an individual that possesses unique strength or skill that no one else has. Which brings us back to the article, “Man and Superman”. This article believes that some athletes simply have their skill in their DNA. We all know that there are some great athletes out there and it comes as no surprise that there are even more greater athletes just waiting to be born. However, the sad truth that most people fail to believe is that some athletes are simply better than others and this article might give some insight to that belief.
Superman has powers like flying, x-rays, and heat vision. With his power Superman faces responsibilities and difficulties in calm and adequate ways. The opposite of Batman is that he is more aggressive and very impulsive in the moment to attack. They are very easily distinguished either in a comic book or a movie for their customs in different colors. Batman outfit is gray with black and a mask which anyone could determine the evil and dark he represents by the outside. Superman is in a brightest outfit representing America and the kind a hero they will choose definitely to fight crime. Frank Miller only wanted to bring Batman a little bit different with other perceptions including his principal rival Superman to make the story interesting and give the opportunity for many readers to notice wrong actions from our comic heroes.
Superman is known all through the world for being the friend in need of a city called Metropolis. In each comic book, motion picture, or activity figure at any point displayed to the general population, Superman is a good looking, solid man who can overcome all chances consistently. The motion picture Superman was a win, demonstrating how the superhuman spared lives but carried on with a modest life. As one watches the motion picture, however, he may see the numerous likenesses between the plot of the motion picture and the account of Christ's coming. Superman, guardian angel of the city Metropolis, reflects the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. All through the motion picture Superman, the names and the activities of the characters were like those of the Holy Bible. Two of the significant name references to the scriptural form manage Superman (Kah-lel) and his dad, Jor-el. In the Greek dialect, the name Jor-el signifies "God," while the name Kah-lel signifies "Little God." Another occurrence where the name diversion is played is on account of Superman's folks, Martha and John. It doesn't appear as though there is some other approach to influence these names to be nearer to Mary and Joseph, who are the guardians of Christ. Zod and Ursula are two different characters show in the film whose names may not be like those in the Bible, but rather speak to the villain and all that is viewed as insidious. These are a portion of the cases of how the utilization of names assumes an
