For my UTEP event I went to the fossil and rock exhibit. Although I was limited to only a few exhibits, those exhibits were very interesting. Some of the exhibits that I saw were the rock, fossil and history exhibits. The one I found most interesting was the rock exhibit. This exhibit was made up of rocks found in this general area (El Paso New Mexico and Mexico). It had a wide range of rocks from crystals to quarts to obsidian rocks. The one I found most beautiful was the Calcite crystal. This crystal was from Durango Mexico and it almost looks like a white rose. This experience for me was very educational. I learned many things like, how the pressure on a rock can affect the way it looks and feels. I also learned that at one point El Paso

After eliminating all but 1 of the enemy soldiers, he pursued and disposed of the remaining soldier in hand-to-hand combat. Despite wounds from an exploding grenade, Sgt. Lemon returned to his machine gun, carried a more seriously wounded ally to an aid station, and, as he returned,
The Alabama Natural History Museum represents a unique aspect of Alabama’s history that is often overlooked. Alabama’s rich geological and archeological history has created the ecosystem we know today, yet is rarely explored by the common Alabama citizen. Regardless,
The Museum included photos and information about the cultures and the history of Tucson. It was fascinating to see how people lived back in the day and compare it to now. It also had ancient artifacts from back in the day such as ancient cars, dresses, utensils, machines, beds and etc. Seeing the artifacts was very interesting to me because it enhances knowledge of their culture. The museum preserves artifacts of historical significance for the future generation.
If you're interested in a taste of local history, venture away from Cancun for a day and explore the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza or Tulum. Back in Cancun, explore contemporary culture by taking in a ballet or strolling through a museum.
On August 8, 2013, a college student from South Dakota State University was struck and killed by a car while running alongside the road near Otsego, Minnesota. He was training to achieve his dream of being a Track and Field contender in the 2016 Summer Olympics. My cousin Phillip LaVallee would never reach his goal. Coming home from a baseball tournament in Italy, I didn’t receive the news until five days after the traumatic incident. An incident that has greatly affected my family ever since. The effect this tragedy had on my life was huge and it taught me to never take anything in life for granted and live to achieve your goals and dreams.
On August 13, 2011, 7 people were killed and 58 were injured during a stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013). The crisis occurred just prior to the start of a concert by performing country artist Sugarland. Concert goers, approximately 12,000 of them, were assembled outside awaiting the start of the concert (Crandall, et al., 2013). Around 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the concert, officials at the state fair were made aware of a potential severe storm with estimated winds at 60 miles per hour (mph) approaching the concert area (Crandall, et al., 2013). According to Crandall, et al. (2013), the concert officials requested for a delay in the concert, however, the band managers
State and local governments truly benefit off of people who are the voice of their community. These citizens do not sit around and do nothing about an issue that affects them. These citizens engage in political affairs such as neighborhood groups (Bowman and Kearney, 2014). For instance, some neighborhood groups are established to create a better place for everyone to live. These groups participate in issues that are going on around their community. Neighborhood associations have the ability to go to court about concerns on issues. There are also environmental groups, which work towards clean water and air, the use of natural resources, and protecting wildlife. Another organization is social justice. These advocates are determined to
The University of Missiouri incident was an eye opener for universities around the nation. There has been a lot of racial tension between students and student affair professionals on the campus. Here is the problem? Sabatke ( 2015) States that students at the University of Missouri engaged in a hunger strike and boycott in protest of the UM system president, Tim Wolfe. They said that, since Wolfe took office as UM president in 2012, he had been negligent in addressing incidents of racism and concerns of students and faculty in regards to MU's campus climate. Concerned Student 1950 is the primary group of students behind the protests.
There are many museums in Tuscaloosa, but the one you have to visit is the Paul W. Bryant museum. This museum is a great one to visit for any Alabama football fans or just anyone who would like to know any background history of the Crimson Tide football team. It was dominated by Coach Bryant and it preserves the great history of the past all until today and the accomplishments of Nick Saban. There is also a Museum of Art that contains a collection of paintings and other models of unique buildings. It is free and it has some interesting paintings by known artists. Another museum is a mansion that is called the Jemison-Van de Graaf Mansion. It is a tour that shows you around the mansion and also tells about the history of the house along with the families that used to live in it. There is a lot of really interesting information on the mansion that makes you feel as if it almost takes you back into the past. There is a museum just for kids there that is very hands on. It’s great and interactive for little kids, but for older kids it will only be good for about an hour or so. Children can do many hands on activities such as going into soda shops, caves, dressing up into older period clothing, be a news anchor, and to be a doctor or nurse in a hospital. The museum is simply called
The three distinct similarities between European views of Africans and views of Native Americans were that they believed both Native Americans and Africans were a simple unsophisticated society, uncivilized savages, pagan who needed Christian teaching. Early North American travel literature portrayed the Native Americans as savage, hostile,“halfmen”, without law, religion, rulers, immortality of the soul and private property (Nash, 2007, p.42). Europeans considered themselves’ civilized compared to Native Americans due to the differences they had concerning their religious or lack of religious beliefs, their opposing view of property and the function of women in the family. Native Americans honored nature and the relationship they had with
The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, written by Mark Haddon, is a mystery novel about a young boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. Christopher Boone, the narrator of the book, compels the reader to feel the most sympathy towards him, due to his Asperger’s Syndrome. Not only is this portrayed by this affliction but also by his parents’ separation and losing the stability of a family life. Ed Boone, Christopher’s father, can be sympathised with when his wife leaves him and he struggles with being a single parent of a child with a disability. Mrs Shears has also suffered loss when her dog, Wellington, was killed and then when her husband left her for another woman. Haddon retells the life of Christopher Boone, through a variety of different techniques such as repetition, dialogue, expletive language and short sentences.
From January 20 to 23, I went to Santa Fe and San Ildefonso in New Mexico with Dr. Laughlin and my classmates. I was totally surprised by the architecture of the housing and the rich collection of Native American cultures. I expected to see traditional suburbs but instead I found almost everyone has built houses resembling traditional adobe homes which I had never seen. Houses, businesses, government buildings including museums are almost built in this style. The colors seem to blend in with the desert. One of the most exciting events I attended in New Mexico was the museum presentation of the Zuni tribe. Although we actually did not meet the Zuni tribe, we learned a lot about them because Dawn Kaufmann who is a guide at the Museum of
Third, Cancun has mystifying sites and tours that are simply amazing. There are, for instance, excursions through the vast caves and the seemingly never-ending tunnels. Colorful stalactite formations resemble icicles hanging from the cave’s ceiling
One of the more inspiring and brilliantly conceived and constructed dome structures in the world is the Pantheon of Rome. This example imposes a magnificent strength of ingenuity and dominance over their surrounding landscape, and the Pantheon deserves to be researched and admired for its architecturally innovative and bold design of its time. The building was accommodated with serious technical impediments that required a thorough and scrutinizing attention to detail in order to overcome. It is because of the prevailed obstacles by the various designers, architects and builders of this building that captures the consideration of those interested in the development of building technology and progress throughout the
