United Nations : An International Organization

The United Nations is an organization established 24 October 1945. It was a replacement for the League of Nations. The UN was created following the Second World War to prevent another such conflict. The organization is financed by giving its member states a substantial fee. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.

During the repercussion of World War 2, the United Nations was formed in order to provide and maintain international security and peace. Canada’s involvement with the United Nations played a key role in the establishment of the U.N Charter of Human Rights.

DESCRIPTION: The United Nations is an international organization established to promote intercontinental support. Therefore, the main role of the United Nations is to maintain international peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations, to promote respect for human rights and to coordinate aid in disaster situations and to provide help on global issues such as drug trafficking and the environment.

The United Nations is an international organization created after World War II. The United Nations was created with the purpose of preventing another world war; the Allies created the organization after defeating the Axis powers: Germany, Japan and Italy. The U.N established a Security Council that consisted of the war’s winners, including the United States, Great Britain, France, China and Russia. Since the war, there has not been a major conflict between the world powers. In addition, the quality of life for billions around the globe has improved because of capitalism/western influence. Even though the U.N. has been successful at maintaining peace between major powers, the success has not been the same with respect underdeveloped

The United Nations is a vessel to keep the peace, they work to prevent conflicts, step in and help parties in conflict to make peace; peacekeeping; and creating the conditions to allow peace. The UN security council has the primary responsibility for the aforementioned. They are the division of the UN that is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. There are fifteen members and each member has one vote, and under the charter, all Member States are obligated to comply with the council’s decisions (The United Nations, n.d.). The United Nations along with the security council was formed in 1945, leaders of 50 nations met in San Francisco with representatives of non-government organizations. It took place at the end of the second world war to prevent that type of widespread destruction, they formed the United Nations.

While war was being waged, peace was being structured with the President personally directing the architecture of plans for the postwar world. (Heuvel). During World War 2 Roosevelt was pushing for the United Nations to be created to try and keep the world stable after the war. today the united nations is a huge part of politicas and help keep the world safe and a peace. After the collapse of the league of nations the world needed a unifying force to stop another major conflict like World War 2 from happening again. Roosevelt pushed and pushed for the creation of the United Nations. Finally on October 24, 1945 the United Nations was founded. Even though Roosevelt was not around to see the united nations come into existence he still played a huge part in its creation. originally the united nations had 51 participating nations in it. today the united nations has almost four times that number with a massive one hundred and ninety three participating nations making it the most powerful entity in history. the united nations has helped prevent wars from breaking out in various parts in the world and when incidents to arise the un is able to act in the manner it sees best fit to end the conflict before it escalates into a huge uncontrollable conflict. The process of reforming the United Nations (UN) has been a highly debatable issue among the international community. Since the initial signing of the UN Charter in 1945, the world has changed dramatically as the UN is trying to regulate a forum that assesses and deals with global issues while also struggling to unite all 193 member states of the UN when some states have been seen to have conflicting ideas and personal agendas (Teng, 2003, pp. 2-3). This essay is targeted to highlight what I feel are the most pressing arguments for UN reform amongst the international community. This will be done by highlighting the problems and ongoing issues surrounding the lack of representation and P5 power of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC),

The world has advanced over the centuries. To ensure progression and growth, society must embrace organizations which support improving the quality of human life. The United Nations is one such organization that has ensured the well-being of the human race by collaborating internationally on how to tactically approach conflicts. From combating terrorism to eradicating smallpox, the United Nations has resolved numerous foreign issues and international crises. The creation of the United Nations continues to be critical because the organization is a fundamental necessity for global peace, good relations, and development.

Due to the two world wars the United Nations was established to prevent another world horror from occurring. Before the United Nations, the League of Nations was formed to express their concerns and settle disputes however due to the lack of power it failed. However, luckily a second attempt was made and UN was created on 24 October 1945.

The United Nations has been effective to a certain extent in providing resolutions to threats of world order. Its structure and functioning was designed to curtail the negative effects of globalisation, such as the spread of transnational threats, and to grant peace and security. The Charter of the United Nations with a purpose to strive for peace and security and act in a manner that reduces threats established the UN in 1945. Specifically through the establishment of the UN refugee agency it has been effective in responding to the threat of increasing refugees in Syria by providing humanitarian assistance. This organization was essentially the League of Nations part two except that it was far more influential with the United States as a member. Furthermore, the United Nations is ineffective because it grants permanent members (such as China, Russia, and the United States) veto power in which these nations can rarely come to a decision.

The United Nations, often shortened to UN, is an intergovernmental organization, (IGO). The UN’s purpose, as it was originally intended in its creation in 1945, is to “provide a global institutional structure through which states can sometimes settle conflicts with less reliance on the use of force”, as according to our Pearson Revel e-textbook. In the context of the time in which it was created, this purpose was aimed towards preventing another hegemonic/total war from occurring again. The 51 states gathering in San Francisco to create the UN put forward their founding document- the UN Charter. This document, according to Pearson Revel, is based on the principles that states are equal, have sovereignty over their own affairs, enjoy independence and territorial integrity, and fulfill international obligations. The Charter also lays out the structure and the methods of the UN. In this structure is the UN General Assembly, (a body comprising of all current 193 states), the UN Security Council, (a body of five great powers that sit permanently and ten rotating members), the Secretariat, (the UN’s executive branch, led by the Secretary-General), and the World Court, (the judicial branch of the UN).

The United Nations was made in light of extraordinary objectives. Dreams of radiance and world peace moved before it's originators' eyes. They made this global gathering of talk and legitimate issues to spare future eras from war, advance human rights, (for example, the nobility and worth of an individual, and equivalent privileges of the genders). They looked for equity. They looked for worldwide law. They looked for admiration for settlements.

“ Here is a task truly of, by and for the world, one that should rally nations. The nature of this task however, must be clearly understood; only then can suitable means for accomplishing it be formulated, only then can the role that the United Nations could and should play be appreciated” ( Wilcox/Haviland, 29). There are many international organizations that have been talked about throughout this semester. One of the most important ones is The United Nations. The United Nations was established October 24, 1945, and has since then been impacting the country. The United Nations main purpose according to the lecture notes is “ to provide a global additional structure through which states can sometimes settle conflicts with less reliance on the use of force , for whole purpose of the United Nations is to provide the globe a forum by which countries may settle disputes through this forum peacefully as opposed to relying on a force which has been the case historically” ( Kopalyan, Module 8). Thus meaning The United Nations was set up to handle problems peacefully rather than going to war to try and solve problems. “Powerful economic as well as political forces are at work to bring about a growing integration of the world community, and the United Nations and its related agencies are uniquely fitted to assist in the task” (Wilcox/Haviland,45). This was some of the reason that the United Nations was created.
