The article focuses on the standards for Universal Pr-k program and how it is
different from other pre-school programs. The author outlines the features of
the universal pre-k program, which includes the age limit, the standards and the
main goal of the program which is getting students ready for kindergarten. In
the article, they highlight that the term universal pre-k meant that everyone can
have access to free education from age 4 regardless of their income and
background. The main aim of the pre-k program is to give all children the opportunity to learn literacy, math and writing skills at an early age. Research
indicates that the pre-k program is beneficial to students when they reach the
upper grades.

She talks about how preschool has changed drastically over the years as well as kindergarten. She states that “kindergarten may be the new first grade”. Her statement shows how children today are expected more then they were years ago in all grades, especially preschool and at such a young age. Many think this is helping our children or will benefit them in the future if they know more as a child but this may not be the case. The teachers in our county use Raz-Kids for students in K-12. I like this program because the e-text reader can model fluent reading for the student and it can also highlight the words while students follow along. This feature can draw attention to sight words and help build word recognition. When students listen to a book they can focus on the meaning of what is on the page instead of struggling to decode the words.
Through various research it has been proven that preschool is an imperative part of a child’s education. If a child is a beneficiary of Head Start services, they will be in a learning environment designed to promote their mental, linguistic, literacy, physical, social and emotional development. Head Start members have been trained to respect their role as "your child's most important teacher" and help them perform their functions effectively. Early Childhood Education illustrates the teaching and care of children in other environments outside of the home. Early childhood centers on the development of all children no matter their gender, race, abilities, or ethnic orientation and gives knowledge of early childhood learning process, which entails values, culture, desires of parents for their children, and especially a child’s need for knowledgeable functionality in society.
When children transition from preschool to primary one there is a change in the learning environment, quality of interaction and mode of instruction. The primary school is a much larger environment than a preschool. The classroom enrolment is also bigger and there is a larger teacher-pupil ratio. Hence, children in primary school receive less one-to-one attention from the teacher than children in preschool. In primary school, children are expected to spend more time seated at their desks. Children also spend a longer duration in primary school than in preschool and carry heavy schoolbags. There is a change in curriculum and behaviour expectations. Children are expected to buy their own food at the canteen and finish it within 20 minutes. Naptimes are not included. In primary school, children are expected to tie their own shoelaces, use the toilet the right way on their own and at specified times. In preschool, children may have 1 teacher to teach them Mother Tongue and another to teach them the other academic skills. However, in primary school children may have more than 2 teachers teaching them academic and non-academic subjects. Hence, children will have to adapt to different teaching styles and teacher
Early childhood education has not always been the top priority in the education world. Although, research has proved that it should be the top priority as the benefits of Early Childhood Education are innumerous. Extensive neuroscience research has discovered that the brain is build over time and it is built from the bottom up. Early childhood experiences directly affect the quality brain development. Establishing a sturdy foundation through a high quality early childhood education experience, will dramatically develop child's brain. As a result, they will have a brighter future. In this essay, I will propose a plan for the children of 2020 and how to ensure the best early childhood education experience. I personally believe that racially, culturally, linguistically and developmentally responsive practices parental involvement are critical to the sturdy foundation that is essential to the positive early childhood experience.
How much each child has improved over time, gives the educators an opportunity to recognize what modifications are needed to improve the student’s achievement. e.g. if a child knows the uppercase and lowercase alphabets very well then the teacher can move on to sounds of the alphabet. On the other hand if the child is struggling to identify the alphabets then the teacher has to come up with alternate ideas to modify her lesson plans. The school carries out assessment twice a year. The mid year and end of the year assessment shows that the expectations from the kindergarteners are slowly raised keeping in mind the consistency of the curriculum and the objectives. An end of the year assessment clearly shows the child’s expected familiarity and independency in the subject.
