The University of Chicago the ideal college that every student deserves. Plenty of support is given to the students, ranging from tutors, to emergency medical care, therefore getting approval from my parents. Chicago is a very large city with very unique residents. The University Of Chicago realizes that their students are sons and daughters, some whom may be far from home. Resources are provided to help keep their students safe and sane. Uchicago, since the first time I heard about it, has always been unique and playful, all while having an amazing educational reputation. It is strange to see that a college has a personality. I often explain to my parents that this university is like your favorite older cousin; they teach you life lessons, …show more content…
From the first time I heard about the University of Chicago, I knew that they had a playful nature. The first thing that I heard was the unusual essay topics. From that gathered that the university likes diverse, unique students. Despite the unconventional essay topics, I still wasn't convinced that this university was exactly what I needed. It wasn't until I revived various letters from the university that I was hooked. The first one that got my attention was when the university sent me a shirt. The shirt was awesome, but what was absolutely marvelous was the letter that came with it. The letter on one side a proper letter thanking me for sending in my test scores yet on the other side was a paper cut out of a building on campus. I was floored. I felt like I was a child again doing arts and crafts and it was amazing. Every other letter that I received after, for example the ‘caption this picture’ and a ‘fun fact test’ letters, just reassured me that I was pursuing a great …show more content…
The curriculum is rigorous and factors like being away from home and not knowing anyone can also add to the anxiety. The University of Chicago provides various resources to keep the students out of harm's way. When I got the chance to visit the campus, I noticed there were what seemed to be strange street lights all over campus. These lights were questionable because they said ‘emergency’ in big bold letters. Later in the tour, I learned that these ‘streetlights’ were emergency phones. If a student felt like they are in any kind of danger, they can go to one of the 380 phones on campus. As well as the physical safety of the students, the University cares for the mental safety of the students. The school provides academic support such as student tutoring and even student counseling services. I think everyone can agree that post-secondary education is expensive and may be impossible for some families. That’s why the University's ‘No Barriers’ program is so great. It waives the application fee, doesn't make students pull out loans, and relives students of the financial stress so that they can focus all of their attention on their education. If someone is always worried about whether they will be able to pay for their next class, instead of studying their hardest to pass the current class, priorities will be mixed up and scholars won't be able to reach their full educational
My desire as a child to travel the world led me to my education at Pace University, first of my many destinations. The teaching methodology, the process of assigning homework, the serene atmosphere in the campus and the ever-helping faculty and staff have already instilled confidence in me. This has helped me ease out of my comfort zone to explore and innovate. Gaining my higher education in America has exposed me to a whole new set of scholastic vocabularies such as credit hours, GPA, courses, Greek life involving sororities and fraternities and
I found many entries online from ivy league students who shared their campus experiences. The entries indicated that many of their students are stressed, constantly tired and in poor health due to stress of the academic standards. Their students are used to easy A’s, but in the ivy league institutions, they are loaded with work and cannot deal with the unacceptable grades. I experienced that situation when I attended the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, a boarding school for juniors and seniors that provide college-level classes. I was on antidepressants and went to therapy in an attempt to cope with the taxing environment. I did not want to go through that feeling again at Cornell. I hoped for the best as I investigated the lifestyle of OSU-IT. I scheduled a campus tour and instantly felt at home. It is a small college in a rural town, and the environment felt warm. Even though the school is academically challenging, the school provides relaxation areas and counseling. Even though I did not visit Cornell, I knew from past research that the school did not provide such comfort as
The first thing on the agenda of my visit was my official tour of the school. As I walked around the main campus I began to picture myself as part of the pack. With each new building I saw, the more I fell in love with the school. Everything from the glowing red-bricked education buildings to the exquisite student building, Talley Student Union. After I had walked the magnificent campus, it was time for my meeting with the head coach, Bryan Bunn. I had never met Coach Bunn or even talked to him, only email. When I stepped into his office with my mom every one of my senses was heightened. I could hear my heart beating out of my chest. I could hear every pipe that had water running through
As students and parents are looking into colleges, their minds need to be open and free of biases. Sanford Ungar’s essay can help broaden the mindset of families, and even help make a decision to attend a liberal
When people hear the word “college”, many panic inside at the thought. But, when I hear the word “college” I think about Illinois State University. In early July, I attended an Open House at ISU for my very first official college visit. As I stepped onto campus, I couldn’t but help to feel like it was my future home. Many aspects of the tour made me draw nearer to choosing this college after finishing my High School career. Illinois State University seems to fit my personality very well, has an amazing program for what I want to study, and is an outstanding campus for my academic strengths and weaknesses.
Eastern New Mexico University is the optimal choice for me because the faculty cherishes the success of the students. The first time I visited Eastern, I was fortunate enough to meet with Mr. Seifert, who truly inspired me to make my decision to attend ENMU. After our initial conversation, he gave me a tour of the music building. His generosity with his time meant a lot to me. This particular touch shows the integrity of the university as unpretentious and attentive, which is incredibly refreshing specifically at the university level. The stereotypical thought of college to a high school student is that college is a frenzy, with students left to fend for themselves, in a high pressure, an almost impossible atmosphere. My impression of eastern is that the entirety of the university is involved in the success of the
At Fond du Lac High School, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, there are classes that each grade is required to take. For example, every student is required to take four English classes, one per year. In addition to that, every student is required to take three science, math, and social studies classes. This hinders a student’s ability to further themselves along a potential career path by forcing them into taking classes that aren't needed. In order to fix this policy, three things need to happen. There needs to be more trade high schools, fewer required classes, and differently formatted school days.
It satisfies my desire for a broad education complete with an enthusiasm for learning, while providing me with an environment full of influential peers that will motivate me to be the best student I can be. It supports my love for unexpected debates, discussing a plethora of topics simply for the sake of expanding my horizons. Most importantly, UChicago embraces and implements their caliber of academia: an intimate educational experience that will allow me to explore a vast array of topics from nearly every angle imaginable. Knowledge is comforting to me, it is safe. It is the objective proof of what is wrong and what is right, the positive force that helps me overcome tests of adversity: and it permeates the campus of UChicago like no other school that I have
As the time for applying to colleges rolled around, my parents pushed for my sister and me to look at schools all over the United States. They wanted to give us a good education and also give us the opportunity they never had. Both of my parents had to attend college in Hawaii. I knew we were just a small island and that there was so much more to experience. I grew excited to have a chance to move away and embrace new knowledge, memories, places, and friendships that would last forever.
The foundation of my future will be cemented with the education I receive here at CBU so that I may contribute meaningfully to society no matter how big or small. However, some of my closest friends from high school attended institutions such as University of California Los Angeles, University of Southern California, and Cal Poly Pomona. I, on the other hand, took the slower route to save a pretty penny. Though I experienced community college for 7 year and graduated, I have no regrets, and those experiences gained thus far make me who I am
The University of Chicago has a prime location in the heart of Chicago and has a strong reputation for giving an above excellent education that will prepare me to continue into graduate school. Inside the classrooms of the University I found it intriguing to learn that the desks are placed in a circular position as a brilliant method to promote discussion. This is a very important element because when I become actively engaged, I learn and remember the material permanently at a quicker rate. By forming a circle with the desks, it has provoked a sense of community in the classroom between myself and the other classmates. This community inside and outside of the classroom is the perfect connecting point in the cycle of every opportunity the University of Chicago has to offer, from those I have listed above to those I may not know of until very the first
Universal college is my prefered institution of choice as i strongly believe that i will do the best i can in life after studying there, i hope to learn everything i can to aid me in success in my profession of choice, participating in my classes and extracurricular activities to the fullest extent, and contribute to the social, academic, and economic well being of this place of learning and excellence. For example, participating in my activities, both academic and extracurricular, will help myself and my peers. Participation in my classes would help myself learn, as well as my classmates should they need any assistance that i can provide, while any extracurriculars that i do can improve the schools standing, and student morale. This is all
University of Chicago’s history in the effort to integrate further convinces me that I can learn and benefit from this institution. College is more than what is learned in the books, it’s also what is learned about
UChicago is more than just a place for me to learn and develop my future plans; it's a place where I can experience life without the watchful eyes of my parents. My parents want to know where I am at all times, especially if I'm not with a sibling or other family member. I find it a holdback for me because I'm not experiencing what it's like to go through life with your parents holding your hand every step of the way. UChicago would offer me the opportunity to experience doing stuff on my own for the first time without my mom or dad coming to the rescue when I can't figure out how to iron my own clothes. I do know how to iron; I'm just pitifully bad at it. My parents are one of my biggest supporters in life and I will forever be grateful for
Located North of Tampa, Fl there is a university located on 2200 E Flower Ave. Now this place is not just any old ordinary university. Usually when the term university is mentioned people are referring to a type of educational institute, but the university being referred to in this essay is far from any educational university people have attended. Although it is highly uncommon to find students in this university at a desk with pencils, and papers taking notes while a instructor is teaching. You will find laughter, sight full adventure, fun, and maybe even meet a friend or two. The University Being written about is a strong, steady, active building built in 1974 where people from all over the city no matter what shape, shade, or size can go to get haircuts, manicures, massages, clothes, shoes, food, and entertainment (Johnson,2008, Nov 14).
