The government of Oceania is full of manipulation and absolute power. They are trying to take control of everything from history, media, language and love. In the novel 1984, by George Orwell, the government of Oceania is turning their citizens into non-thinking, non-feeling automatons by stripping away their humanity and influencing language, media and love.

The government of Oceania is completely changing the language of the people by narrowing the vocabulary in the dictionary. In chapter 5, Syme said “Take ‘good,’ for instance. If you have a word like ‘good,’ what need is there for a word like ‘bad’? ‘Ungood’ will do just as well – better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not”. The government of Oceania is cancelling out the list of extra words that are not direct opposites of another. By doing this, the dimension of thought and the thought corruption will automatically decrease. Again in chapter 5 Syme states that “In fact there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking-not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness”. The government of Oceania wants to make their citizens non-thinking automatons from birth and take complete control of their thinking. The goal of the government is to get the people to believe what they are told whether it is true or false. In conclusion, everyone will have the same ideas leaving the society with no originality and limiting different advancements.
