Introduction
The real difficulty is that people have no idea of what education truly is. We assess the value of education in the same manner as we assess the value of land or of shares in the stock market. We want to provide such education as would enable the student to earn more. We hardly give any thought to the improvement of the character of the educated. The girls, we say, do not have to earn; so why should they be educated? As long as such ideas persist there is no hope of our ever knowing the true value of education". – Gandhi
Values based-education is a medium to unfold and nurture the ideals of life. Education that does not inculcate human virtues will not be good for the society; it will rather mislead humanity. Quality teaching is an outcome of Value based Education. The subject matter and content are not the only ingredients for inculcating values among the students but it is

Values education is often ignored in adult life, perhaps on the assumption that values are an individual matter and that values education for adults would be an inappropriate attempt to influence the moral decisions of people who should by this stage be able to make up their own minds. This represents a serious misunderstanding of the nature and purpose of education, which is not about telling people what to think but about helping them to think better and to reflect on things which they may have taken for granted in the past. Hence, values improve the quality of education. Older lifelong learners may benefit from opportunities to evaluate changes in moral priorities in contemporary society; to reflect on the implications of new technologies, globalization, and increasing cultural diversity; to become aware of the growing emphasis on ethics in professional life; to think about how changing circumstances may affect moral decisions; and to reflect on how to deal with conflicting
Education as a whole has been the key to the future and provides to the students with skill that they could not get anywhere. The new age has clearly shown us that education is a vital ingredient for a person’s future. Education has shown that one who studies further has a better lifestyle and will be highly respected, but what education cannot do is offer everyone the opportunity to succeed. Only a few students can take advantage of education; because if suddenly
Values help people determine what is right and wrong. They provide our moral compass in life.
Our core values are used as a compass in our decision making processes, likewise in order to teach or counsel others, we must first know and understand our own core values (LaVore-Fletcher, 2016). Our value system is simply the central belief system of an individual.
There are some people who choose not to pursue their education as of any particular reasons. Those people think education is not important, but that is not true; it is really important. With education, the human can get better job opportunities and well-paid job. Companies do not hire employees without any good skills. In order to get better, jobs-education is valuable. A person who is highly educated will get a better job than the person with less or no education. However, it is hard to find a job without any skills. well, paid job person has a much better life and other facilities than others without
Values are standards and principals by which we live our lives. These standards are many and often depend on people`s background e.g. Culture, class, religion, gender, age. Values are extremely individual attitudes that direct people`s responses to the world around them. Amongst some of the values I live my life by and respect are privacy allowing me to have space to myself and respecting the fact that others may desire privacy, to be safe and also allowing others the same, having self respect, being trustworthy, being non judgmental, being anti discriminatory, respect life and faith, value freedom and equality, value choice and others points of view. I have learned to live my life this way from my parents and their families. The schools
The debate over rather children should learn values at home or in school is not a complicated one. The process of learning values in school, as oppose to home is referred to as character education. Should we require character education in our school systems? Kathleen Townsend explains in, “Just Read and Write, but Right and Wrong” and “Character Education Will Likely Fail” by Thomas J. Lasley, the main attention is directed to teachers and adults who consider values and character education unsuitable for schools. Thus, seemingly not putting the values and characters of their students as a priority. They state how teachers and schools want to essentially take no responsibility to these young adults who do not have a good foundation of values. Townsend explains it would be difficult to teach a course due to the many conflicts throughout the unshared environment of each individual person. Lasely agrees with Townsend on this conflict. However, Lalsey is more aware of the barriers that will stand in the way of this achievement. Lasley is more explanatory, and is more affective due to the reality he brings to the table and the way he canvas his message.
Values affect the way we choose to live our life furthermore the way we act towards others and their life.(REF) As we develop as individuals many factors such as age, wisdom and life experiences are likely to have an impacted value’s now held in comparison to ones held in younger life, as growth, knowledge and life experience act towards shaping us as individuals and the way we may view things. Values are not factual nevertheless there are no right or wrong values as these are personal to each and every individual. (x2ref)
No one would argue on the value of education, and that knowledge empowers the individual to play its role in the society. But, there are always arguments on whether one has to have a college degree and how much education is enough. Albert Einstein once said, “The value of a college education is not the learning of many facts but the training of the mind to think.” With the fast moving world and technology advancements,it is unwise to believe that higher education is only needed to get a better job and make a good living. In this age and time, one needs more than basic education to fulfill the needs of daily life challenges.
The Phrase 'Value Based Education', in wide use in present times comes closest in meaning to the Sanskrit word 'Vidya' as it was used by the Gurus or preceptors of ancient India. 'Vid - ya' means that which illumines. As such, it was identified with knowledge that illumines the mind and soul. Since the imparting of knowledge was the aim of education, over a period of time, education also came to be known as 'Vidya'. But, the highest goal of Vidya as visualized by the seers and seekers was to understand the Ultimate Truth or Reality. Adisankaracharya, one of the foremost spiritual teachers that India has known, expounded "Vidyahi - ka? Brahma Gathi Pradaya" - what is Vidya ? It is that which explains the Brahmatatva, the nature of the
Experiences as children can shape people's brain and affect what is seen as right or wrong. “Values are acquired in childhood and manifest themselves in our campuses as permanent perceptions that shape and influence the nature of our behaviors” (Chmielewski n.p.). As a child, that person is still developing and maturing both mentally and physically, so the values and morals the child learns are applied to their lives and are held onto. “In a world that is constantly growing and developing, it is important for youths to hold onto morals taught to them in their childhood” (George 4). Adults also need to hold onto these morals to help youths to learn and grasp their own personal morals. “Values involve emotion, knowledge, thought, and ultimately choice and response” (“The Factors of Personality Traits” n.p.). The knowledge that people gain is gained from experience and is taken in over time. “Interactions and experience can change and affect a person's development and beliefs” (“The Factors of Personality Traits” n.p.). A person's past and experiences can affect what morals are set by them and how they view the world and
Education is the best thing that can make everyone successful in our lives. There are so many people really have a hard time in studying, especially is students. They will have a special time in school, such as failure or success. Every student has to deal with a lot of things in school which are homework, classwork and so on. The most thing that every student concern is how to preparing students for college. Everyone knew, preparing students for college is very important to facet of our education system, but there are not many high school student graduated. Nowadays, most of the jobs require students for higher education Also, it's getting too difficult to get a job when they graduate high school or be successful without a college degree.
Value is defined as the standard of conduct. Values are used for judging the goodness and badness of some action. It is a belief upon which person acts by preference. Values are quite complex because there are lots of them, some may vary with time and place but others are unchangeable, and they may vary from person to person. What is a value to one person may not be a value to another. There are different types of values. These are ethical values, personal values, cultural values, and instrumental values. Ethical values imply standard of worth. They are the standards by which a person measures the goodness in his or her life. Instrumental value is something that helps to give value to something else (Pozgar, 2012, p. 374). Personal values are those values developed over time and may change as needs change. And cultural values are values shared by a group of people in community. These values are subject to change too if such values are a threat to the community. Values are the motivating power of a person’s actions and necessary to survival, both psychologically and physically (Pozgar, 2012, p. 374).
Values are those things that are important, meaningful and valued by an individual, a group of people, or an organization. Whether we are aware of them or not, every individual has his or her core set of values, which consist of many different kinds of values. Each individual’s value system is different from one another because individual’s values are built up through one’s life experience, environment, and family background. Values are important to us because they reflect our personal moral standards, shape our behavior, and guide us through long life journeys. Since we live in a highly connected society, each person’s value system does not only affect one’s own life, but also affects many other people and the
A personal value system is a set of principles that guide an individual’s behavior, which provides a foundation by helping someone determine what is meaningful and important. Essentially, it is a foundation for individuals to express themselves and support their beliefs to society. Values is what defines a person’s character because it is impacting aspects of individual’s lives such as interactions, decision-making processes, and direction in one’s life. As for having the principles of morals is to know the difference between righteous decisions and unrighteous decisions. However, the importance of having values and morals is vitally important to establish because it influences their worldview and ethical decision-making.
“ Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (Mandela, 2003). It shapes who we are and gives us the fundamentals of life. In the United Nations Convention on rights of a child article 28 states:“all children have the right to a good quality education” (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, 1990). but why haven’t we achieved that? There are many reasons why but we will look at those later. First, it is appropriate to look at the cultures in India, Sierra Leone and Pakistan.
