Varying Life Expectancy
Life expectancy plays a crucial role in understanding the vital factors that determine if a person lives longer, further it also shows how peoples lives are affected by certain conditions. As much as compared with today's life expectancy in general, shows an improvement, there exist wide disparities within the different states. The main factors that are largely attributed to the varying averages in life expectancy include; dietary risks, Smoking, access to quality care, Income, rates of poverty and inequality in education.
Dietary risks are associated with higher meat consumption and sugar, resulting in obesity, hypertension, and risk of cancer, more so varying smoking habits between the states also plays a significant
After being informed on lifestyle factors affecting longevity, I would like to change my diet, amount of exercise, and levels of stress. Although I want to be able to alter these aspects in my life, it is not always possible. Even before taking the longevity test and watching the video, I wanted to make these changes to my life but I don’t necessarily have the time. I find it really difficult to find time to go to the gym, cook healthy meals, and keep my stress levels down when I’m juggling school, work, and loads of homework. I would like to wake up at 5 A.M and go for a run, pack a healthy lunch, go to school or work, come home cook a healthy dinner, and relax. I am fairly healthy and the longevity test estimated that I live till 80 years
For the past two decades Utah County has been ranked among those US counties with healthiest populations. In spite of this, assessment on life expectancy of the inhabitants of Utah State shows that some problems have cropped into the local occupants depriving them of their once notable rich health status (Novilla, Barnes, Hanson, West & Edwards, 2011). A close examination shows that there are inherent health disparities among Utah citizens and this is as a result of the notable variations in life expectancies among different groups. Research shows that in some parts of the Utah state, life expectancy is 80 years while in the other areas within the same state the life expectancy is 70 years. Research shows that Utah ranking
These disparities are obvious in some key measures of wellbeing including life expectancy, the risk for disease, and access to health care (Disparities in Health, 2015). Historically, the major factors contributing to shorter longevity and high rates of disease are overcrowding, poor sanitation and low availability of treatment facilities. However, the change of theses socioeconomic
Although statistics have to be approached with an open mind, evidence has been released which shows overwhelmingly that good health and life-expectancy is dictated by social class, with the lower classes being subject to poorer health and lower life expectancy. In 1980 The Black Report followed by the Acheson Report in 1998 are the most influential reports on this topic. In each report they provide an in-depth explanation of the relationship between the various social and the environmental matters regarding
Life expectancy, or the estimated years of life for a person or group of people, has increased over the years but it is still surprisingly lower than expected in places such as the United States. America ranks twenty-fourth on the life expectancy list under Japan, Australia, France Spain and Italy. What causes this disparity in the ranking and statistics in an advanced industrialized society such as the United States? There are major statistical factors that influence the United States ranking in world life expectancy, involving education level, poverty, race and gender. The diverse groups of people living in the United States affect the health statistics negatively, bringing in influences from education and income levels, race and
Life expectancy is widely viewed as a key measure of the health of populations. Closing the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians has been adopted as a high level target by COAG, which aims to close the life expectancy gap within a generation (COAG
The data within this document could be considered as a valid and reliable outlook into London’s life expectancy because it is a published document by Public Health England which is a health organisation. The publisher is reputable and therefore it is deemed as being trustworthy (Public Health England. 2013). Furthermore the information has been collected and analysed by professionals. Validity of the document is reinforced as the data given does reflect life expectancy within a given borough (Office For National Statistics. Unknown).
In the textbook, Invitation to the Life Span by Kathleen Stassen Berger contains a section on how children are discipline in different cultures. Berger provided sources from Micheal J. MacKenzie and his colleagues on how different gender, ethnicity, and age plays a role in spanking children. It is said that mothers tend to use this method more often than fathers and boys in African American homes tend to have a greater chance of being spanked. I learned that in order to study the development in diverse setting, people have to do background research and possible studies to see as to why people do certain things like spanking. It is also good to considered every possible factor that could play a part. For instance in this finding, it is good
The life expectancy of people in the United States have progressively increased since the 1930s. In the year 1930, the life expectancy of American men and women was 59 years old but in 2014, that number has increased to about 79 years old ("Life Expectancy at Birth by Race and Sex, 1930–2010"). People in the United States now live up to 20 years longer and because of the longer lifespan, more people are now developing chronic diseases that they were not before. Looking at data on people who are diagnosed with diabetes, a correlation can be seen in which as a person’s life expectancy increases, so does the number of people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. In the 1960s, the number of people in the United States who were
I think that a person's health and the amount of time they live varies depending which social and ethnic group they belong to for many reasons. For example, different health conditions like diseases can be more prominent in different parts of the world depending on where you live. If you are a racial minority, or are of lower social status can directly relates to a persons health and longevity through their level of education. Without knowledge or proper education of medicines and signs of different illnesses would result in a lower quality of life and poorer health. Also people with a lower class income or lower social status because of money, would also effect how long they will live because of their lack of resources towards medicine and treatment. The same can be said about socioeconomic status and race intertwining with each other.
These four main areas of research correspond to the question and demonstrate that the researches sought to find answers for income level and life expectancy through the measurements of age, income group and differences in longevity. Researchers wanted to see if there was a pattern, and how future changes with income and would differ according to a change in geographical and local areas. Researchers tried to characterize the relationship between life expectancy and income in the United States as a whole; analyzing the change in life expectancy by income in the group from 2001 through 2014. Researchers coordinated
Chad’s current life expectancy is only 50.8 years, compared to Algeria’s, which is 74.3. Many factors influence their nation’s life expectancy. In Chad;
Does the percentage of population at/below poverty rate affect the average life expectancy in different countries? The raw data was collected at a secondary source online. The poverty rates was collected at the golbalissues.org and the world fact book, which are reputable sources. The life expectancy was collected from the world health organization which is also a trustworthy source and wikipedia.
Living longer means enjoying life, but here are some people that don’t get to live more and enjoy life because they don’t have enough money. They don’t have enough money to get good care in hospitals or see good doctors. That causes the death of those people, comparing to the people who are in the same age, but have more money. Some people have hard jobs and they don’t get health insurance. Those people are more likely to get injured during work. Some other people work easier jobs, get paid more, and they get health insurance. The environment that the person lives in is another factor that can affect the health of the person, for example, if you compare the grocery stores that are in poor areas with grocery stores that are in rich areas, you will see the difference. Bad food goes to the poor people because they can’t afford good food, and that will lead to bad health problems for those people.
Education is a significant factor that can result in longer lifespans. Comparisons from Figure 2 and 3 shows that low income areas are linked to lower educational attainment,
