Diets are the first thing that come to mind when a person is experiencing an issue with oneself, but it appears we can never stick to it. Diets are usually classified as "starving oneself" by people who feel that diets should be very little food and no meat. However, there are many types of diets, and they all contain a different strategy. Diets are not all just salads, pills, and surgery. There are many ways a person could lose weight naturally rather than losing it for the moment. All diets are not bad, but there is one that basically eliminates everything we eat: the Vegan Diet. A person on the Vegan Diet must eliminate meat, dairy, and animal -derived products. This diet is most effective when a person is expecting to
Some people may further choose to restrict their diet even further and become vegans whom exclude all meat, poultry, fish, dairy products and farm produce from their diet.
A diet is not just something humans go on to lose weight. A diet is the food a drink that a human or animal usually eats. There are many different types of diets that people use in order to achieve something, such as weight loss or weight gain.
According to vegansociety.com, “ Veganism represents a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, other animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, other animals and the environment.“ People that follow this way of living are called vegans. The vegan diet is more a lifestyle choice and a philosophy than just a diet. The vegan life is the best way to live because it’s healthier, helps the environment, and is kinder to animals.
The article, “Veganism Health Hyper Is Overrated”, by Katherine Jaffe, Jaffe goes over what veganism is and how the vegan diet affects the body. She mentions that being vegan is more than not eating animal products, but also not exploiting animals in every aspect of life. In response to this, she asks: “Aren’t vegans creatures, too?” She argues that veganism is not the best choice since it causes vitamin deficiencies, like vitamin B12. Then, she mentions how a newborn had died from not getting proper nutrition because it’s mother was a vegan and chose to breastfeed. Although, Jaffe provides the more negative effects of becoming a vegan, she does that only to prepare those who want that way of life.
According to “Merriam Webster”, being on a diet means that you are eating less food or eating only particular food in order to lose weight. Many people have tried or are trying different diet plans to make them skinnier, but most are ineffective. Research shows that 95% of all dieters will regain their lost weight within 5 years of time. People have also tried to hire a personal trainer to lose fat by becoming more fit. But as we all know, when you train your body, your fat gradually becomes muscle and muscles can’t be eliminated.
One thing that gets everyone’s attention is the ability to lose weight. Everyone around the world decide one point in their lives to start a diet. People worry about their weight all the time, and believe going on a diet can and will help them lose weight; but that’s not the case at all.

The term “diet” has had many different meanings over the years. The more traditional definition, according to Oxford Dictionaries is “the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats” (“Diet.”). This definition denotes that the word “diet” simply means what any person eats on any given day. However, Oxford Dictionaries also gives the term a more colloquial meaning, “a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons” (“Diet.”). This change in definition came with a slew of different diet plans and celebrity endorsements. A day does not go by without a magazine advertising how you can get a body just like Jennifer Lopez’s or a commercial on TV selling the newest diet
Fat free, Weight Watchers, pills, detoxes, and all for what? To look good, feel good, lose weight etc., but what is the best option? Thousands of studies have been done on what is our most ideal diet, while this question challenges many barriers, I want to look into one specific controversial diet called the vegan, or plant-based, diet. A vegan diet is one that disregards all animal-based products. While a majority of the population may deem it as unobtainable, ill advised, and excessive others see it as a lifestyle, an opportunity, or even a chance for social change.
For this assignment, I volunteered at the Earthstock celebration on April 25th. Earthstock is a week long, campus-wide event that is used to educate students, alumni, and the general public about sustainable practices that help the environment. During the final Earthstock celebration, exhibitors from many different organizations, such as EmPower Solar and Vegan Outreach, set up tables displaying information regarding healthy lifestyle practices, alternative diets, and sustainable forms of energy. For this event, I was unfortunately assigned the task of helping other student volunteers and exhibitors check in and set up their tables. However, after volunteering, I was able to observe and learn about many of the organizations that had attended the event.

Do you believe that things can have shades? Or are you part of that group of people that believe that things are black or white? For me life in general have shades, we cannot be extremist and this concept is more appropriate when it comes to health. Vegan is an extreme decision and we know there are a lot of reasons why people decide to take this life style. I personally respect all of them but in this opportunity I want to speak for those that believe that veganism is being healthy. Nutrition is balance we cannot be so radical in terms of health.
The first thing that usually comes to one’s mind when they hear the word Veganism is healthy. However, many points would debate against and for this very statement. There are many researches that prove the vegan diet is a healthy one and that this diet is better than a normal animal product eating one, however none proving that it is better than all the other diets, like some people claim the plant-eating one to be. Being a vegan means that you miss essential nutrients on a day to day basis such as vitamins, iron, zinc and calcium just to name a few. As well as this, when you get rid of all these animal products you are at a much higher risk of developing a nutritional deficiency and becoming under-weight. Looking
According to a recent poll 6 to 8 million American’s do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. From these studies, they have been researching about the effects of a vegetarian diet on the body. Compared to most meat based diets, vegetarians consume less saturated fat and cholesterol from not eating meat. Choosing this route will have a person what would be considered a better quality of life and overall good health. Research so far has shown that a vegetarian diet reduces the risk of heart disease. In recent years a study was done using different participants and the results showed that vegetarians were 25% less likely to die from heart related problem. “This is because vegetarians tend to consume more high-fiber, whole grains, and legumes which have a low glycemic index and the body digests slowly. This keeps blood sugar levels steady. Another food item that helps reduce the risk of heart disease is walnuts” (Sixwise). This is because the omega-3s in walnuts help reduce total cholesterol. There is some controversy over this specific topic, thus, are they really that healthy? What does it mean to be a vegetarian, and what do professionals have to say about being a vegetarian?
