As stipulated earlier the mergers of Bell Atlantic and Vodofone and consequent mergers with GTE and MCI gave Verizon advantage over other competitors to the extent that it acquired a wide network in America. Compounding this with its wide roaming capabilities, Verizon Communication’s productive capacity increased dramatically, making it possible to acquire millions of customers hence maximize its revenue. According to Mockler (2006), 47.4 million customers subscribed to Verizon’s wireless services and 3.6 million customers used its fixed line services as per the 2004 reports. This shows that Verizon Communication’s market share is large enough to make them market leaders and profitable given their outreach. Secondly, Verizon’s Communication has been a pioneer with regards to range of products and services offered to its customers. With its admirable technological resources, Verizon’s has a wide range of products that it offers to its customers, providing both fixed line and wireless services. Also in order to capture different markets, they have introduced new exiting features products such as picture messaging, VOIP, instant messaging, video conferencing just to name but a few. Moreover, features such as caller ID’s call waiting, call forwarding and three-way calling not only help in strengthening Verizon’s products range and services but also adds value to the company as it helps improve the quality of its service and hence helps the company attract new customers
As of late 2004, Verizon is already considered the world's largest telecommunication company with annual revenue of $67.8 billion. Their continued plans are leading toward acquisition and development of fiber technology, which will allow it to offer cable TV services. Apparently they are still apprehensive regarding business customer and plan to extend add-ons again into the private sector, which worked for them in 2003.
- Processes - In many ways, Verizon is still three companies (Bell Atlantic, Nynex, and GTE). Although Verizon has consolidated and standardized some of their processes, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
Trends in the market include the growing number of people within the 15-29 age range. Also, phones are being used for much more than just calling, other functions like texting and music playing capabilities have dominated much of a user’s data usage. As for market characteristics, the mobile industry has reached almost 50% penetration with about 130 million subscribers, and reaching its maturity. The cost structure has been very confusing for consumers, with hidden fees, overcharges, and lacks to reward users who do not use their plans to the max. And finally, channels include all service provider stores and retail consumer stores, for example, Target, Walmart, and Best Buy.
The generation of talking face-to-face is slowly fading away, and the technology era is going to keep on growing. One of the most widely used technology services known today is the cellular phone industry. According to the Pew Research Center’s website, 90% of American adults own a cell phone. Of that 90%, the smartphone ownership is at 64% (2013). Verizon Wireless, along with the other major carriers, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T, have taken this data and comprised a growing industry where competition arises from all angles. These companies have battled one another on pricing, plans, and customer service for many years in order to stay on top. Unfortunately, these are major factors in whether or not a customer will choose the particular company over another.
In business, market structure plays an important role, which helps to shape the competitive landscape for businesses at all levels. Each business industry will naturally form a market structure that comes in numerous forms: Perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, or monopoly. Verizon Wireless is a well-known communications company and large enough to affect the market. Oligopoly is defined as a market in which only a few firms dominate, and judging from Verizon competition there are only a few firms involve: T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint. With only few competitors involve the barrier to entry is high, but there still lies a large pool of customers. The barriers are high because of the amount of money that has to into the infrastructure
The future of the telecommunication industry is an exciting future. No longer can these companies depend on telephone service plans to maintain profit. Each company needs to find other avenues, packages and services that can be sold to existing customers while attracting new customers. The companies
Verizon Wireless is a big time cell phone company in which for years now, has been widely regarded as the top of competition. Which include companies such as at&t, sprint, and T-Mobile. While there are many other companies these are seen as the tops of competition in regards to others. Verizon in many of its commercials use a variety of rhetorical tactics to persuade you to believe they are truly the best in service. These tactics include providing coverage maps, using colorful balls in which compare between the four companies, and using written text stating facts about their coverage and overall service. While verizon may be the top in service all around I do believe some things are a little stretched.
Verizon’s business is most heavily influenced by the advancements in technology, but other industry changes and government decision making are other social issues changing Verizon. As previously discussed in the essay, Net Neutrality is a bill that projects the future of the telecommunications industry. In the case that it is protected it will prevent a monopoly of the internet which will benefit more than just consumers, but for Verizon the abolishment of the bill will mean opportunity to increase profits through selling the internet since it will no longer be a free utility (Maisto, 2014). Thus, the industries future profits lye on the decision of Net Neutrality.
“Can you hear me now?” has to be one of the most memorable lines from an ad campaign in history. That campaign was a major win for Verizon Wireless. It helped the company gain market share and reduce customer turnover making it one of the most competitive entities in the industry. Verizon has positioned itself as an industry leader in communications, information and entertainment products and services for consumers, businesses and governmental agencies. It functions in two main divisions: Verizon Wireless and Wireline. Verizon Wireless’ main products and services are wireless voice and data services over both 4G LTE and 3G networks, and equipment sales around the United States. Wireline offers products and services that
Verizon is a major telecommunication provider in the United States. The company is the market leader, with $110 billion revenue and $2.4 billion in profit (MSN Moneycentral, 2012). Verizon has steady revenue streams that are largely based on a subscription model. It has several business segments, including wireless (63.3% of revenues) and wireline (36.7%) (2011 Verizon Annual Report). Most of this report will therefore focus on the wireless business, not only because this is the largest business that the company operates but because it is a rapidly growing and evolving business as well, a function of the rapid pace of smartphone adoption in America.
Due to wide coverage and most efficient customer service Verizon has become the largest Wireless communication company in U.S.
“As a leader in communications, Verizon's mission is to enable people and businesses to communicate with each other. We are also committed to providing full and open communication with our customers, employees and investors”
Verizon Communications formed by the merger of two big and successful companies, Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp., is the largest telecommunication company. The company serves large part of the market in United States. However the company faces certain strengths and weaknesses which affect the way company formulate its strategies.
