The Career of a Veterinarian

A veterinarian is a professional who practices veterinary medicine by treating diseases, disorders, and injuries in animals. I chose to research about a veterinarian because I have always loved animals and have always been interested in helping animals who are need of care. I interviewed Dr. Scaglione from Park Ridge Animal Hospital who is a veterinarian. I have no personal connection to the clinic but they are right across the street from Pascack Hills and it is convenient. I believe this career would be a good choice if I were to pursue it as my career.
I can imagine that this job will take lots of work and focus however, this job really interests me and I definitely will be looking more into it.

In this job, you can expect to work long hours. “Some work nights or weekends, and they have to respond to emergencies outside of scheduled work hours. About 1 in 3 veterinarians worked more than 50 hours per week in 2012” (veterinarian 2). This shows you must have the dedication and really love and be interested in what you are doing. “The US Department of Labor reports that median annual earnings of veterinarians were $88,490 in May 2015. Salaries ranged from less than $53,210 to more than $158,260” (veterinarians 2). The job outlook is projected to grow 12 percent from 2012 to 2022. Overall, this job is a rising industry although there is a bigger struggle for professions in the recent years which may cause the business to slow down. “There also will be employment growth in fields related to food and animal safety, disease control, and public health. As the population grows, more veterinarians will be needed to inspect the food supply and to ensure animal and human health” (veterinarian 2).
