I attended a “Vetworking” session on September 16, 2015 from 5 – 7pm. I can honestly state that I went into this session close minded because I just wanted to finish this assignment ahead of time. Ten minutes into the event, I realized that the recruiters are just as nervous and timid as us. Some recruiters would approach me, while others kept looking at me hoping I would approach them. My first interaction was with Trinity Industry, a steel company that is based in Dallas. The recruiter, Jamey, told me about his company and explains how I would fit in with my degree plan. Being close minded, I did not expect to be so excited to learn about his company, much less, a steel company. The most exciting part of interacting with her was when she told me that she happened to be the head hiring director for their finance and law department. At this point I am very happy I attended this event because even though I do not plan on interning or working till later in my scholar career, I am able to network with professionals that can help with my career. The JP Morgan recruiter gave me great advices on obtaining a law degree while possible working for Chase. He explained how Chase would help pay for my Law school while working as a KYC officer analyzing data, then I would be able to transfer over to the law department of Chase once I become an attorney. Attending the Vetworking session was an eye opener for me because it made me realize that I need to start networking now. After this session, I realized that I need to more assertive and approach the recruiters with an open mind and questions. I can genuinely say that I enjoy my experience today, and that I do plan on attending more career events to build up my network and get more career advice from these
