I had the pleasure of interviewing Justin Robison, Controller and CFO for The Housing Trust in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Housing Trust is a non-profit agency who helps people in northern New Mexico locate affordable housing. This assistance is provided to low and moderate income level families. The Housing Trust also builds energy efficient, affordable homes for low income families. Justin has been in the financial sector as an Investment Analyst and a Financial Analyst. He earned his MBA at the University of New Mexico. Justin’s leadership style has developed from experience and education, but he appears to still be in the process of really finding what style works best for him. Justin had an insightful view of what defines leadership, what helps motivate his followers, and what makes a good follower.
There have been many great leaders in history. The leader I choose is Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock. Carlos joined the Marine corps on his 17th birthday and he set a record that was never beaten at the “A” course at USMC Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, and defeated 3,000 other shooters to win the coveted Wimbledon cup for snipers. I choose Carlos because he inspires Marines still to this day with his amazing feats. He had 93 confirmed kills including that of an NVA general deep in enemy territory, a female interrogator known for brutal torture, and the record breaking 2,500 yard kill of a guerilla with a M2 .50-cal machine gun in single fire mode. In short he's a true hero of the Marine Corps and even trained soldiers too. He had
Great leaders have shaped the World we live in today and they are remembered for what they were able to accomplish during their lifetime. The history books are filled with leaders that changed the very nature of something by taking a different road or challenging the way everyone perceived things. Leaders would not be able to accomplish these daring feats without the help of their followers, the individuals in the background giving them their support (Schermerhorn & Uhl-Bien, 2014). Colleen Barrett was able to break through the glass ceiling and led Southwest Airlines (SWA) to become one of the most successful airlines in the industries (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010). In the following pages will explore Colleen Barrett’s leadership
Peter Drucker once said "Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadership is defined by results not attributes." This means a leader does selfless acts for the people as a whole no matter if some disagree with the decision made. Most leaders are not perfect, but can a great leader still make mistakes or do wrong during his time in charge and have the good weigh out the bad that he has done? Frank Rizzo was a leader for Philadelphia in many ways. Frank Rizzo was mayor; he was a police officer, and the police commissioner. Rizzo has done many things in the community during the many roles he has played in Philadelphia, and the lives that were influenced by him will be able to remember him through the statue that remains
Being from the Bronx there are alot of negativity and unwanted distractions that keep many children from becoming something in life. You need a support system in life. Alot of children didn't have role models to guide them. Silvio who was a hard headed boy fell to the streets. Many children in the Bronx neighborhood rose above that and became something in life as of Jeremy who went to school, and graduated from college.
Steve Jobs and Father Jose Maria Arizmendiarrieta were both exemplary leaders. In just 35 years, Steve Jobs took Apple Computers from a mere idea to a $380 billion dollar enterprise. Father Arizmendiarrieta educated and aided the first founders of the Mondragón Cooperative that today employs more than 80 000 people. Great achievements from two man who simply cannot be defined by any one “textbook” leadership style. It appears that in real life leadership theories may be applied in synergy, allowing the flexibility for a leader to adapt their style as the situation requires. Whilst Steve Jobs and Father Arizmendiarrieta were both effective leaders, one stands out. Father Arizmendiarrieta led a population to self-sufficiency and whilst never
Coming from a small city where everyone knows almost everyone, I would like to excel in my ways so everyone in the city will recognize it. La Mirada California, a place where I was born and raised my whole life. I am currently a senior in high school. I attend La Mirada High School where I have been able to maintain at least a 3.8 grade point average. Not a 4.0 because I had gotten low grades my freshman year due to struggles at home. Although I had gotten low grades, I was able to over come that failure and maintain a 4.0grade point average the rest of high school. I have taken honors classes or college prep classes my whole life and now I know that I can handle challenges and I am not afraid of them. I am not the oldest of my siblings, but
William Levitt was the son of an architect, and the brother of a businessman. He was a dreamer on a grand scale, and happened to concoct one of the most influential and prosperous business decisions in
AMDG Carlotta of Mexico Jon Gordon once said, “You are not a true success unless you’re helping others be successful”. In order to be called a “success”, you cannot rely on only yourself but the good you do for others that make one an accomplished person. And as for succeeding as a leader, a good leader asks others for help and helps those who ask. Throughout history, as leaders, men have always received more credit for their achievements than women and women often are only mentioned for their faults. However, Carlotta of Mexico was an admirable leader because she was generous to offer her help, intelligent, and a strong individual who stood up for those she loved.

In this ever growing, rapid developing world as we can see today, there are many different successful leaders. As we know it, leaders are humans just like everyone else. How did they manage to stand out from the crowd? What did they do to achieve great success for an organization? As of all the successful leaders in the world, Steve Jobs is one of the successful leaders that managed to achieve great success for an organization. Therefore, Steve Jobs is the leader that I personally admire and would like to emulate.
Prior to attending the Business Internship course, my knowledge and understanding on successful business leaders was very limited. Although I had heard of countless success stories in business, I had never actually understood what it took to achieve such measures of success. However, it wasn’t until we had the privilege of hearing from four different business magnates in weeks 6 -9. Each of the business leaders gave an hour’s seminar and which was aimed at providing insights into their personal lives, working experiences and the core essence of 21st century business leadership.
When he first began, he was told that he was a pastor and that he had no business experience; how could he possibly guide people in business? He has taken his leadership experiences from his church life and directly correlated them to many various fields. The book has many illustrations drawing parallels with sports and American history as well as corporate experts’ stories.
