I thought the movie “Walkout” was very inspirational. It showed me that i should stand up for what i believe in, no matter what anyone said. Even if that person is my parents, if i believe it then i should go after it with a hundred percent. It also showed me that i should really love where i come from. My culture means a lot to me and i am proud of it. This movie just made me love it and be proud of it more. I really liked how the teacher helped the chicano students out. He helped them get to college and stand up for themselves. Also how all the students put themselves in risk to stand up for themselves, when they knew they would get in big trouble. But even then they still kept fighting. The best part of the movie was when the adults came
The Film “Walkout” was a very inspirational movie that tells us the story of the 1968 walkout by many Chicano students in East LA, this Film portrays the inequality, racism, and oppressions that Chicano students experienced on that time, the teacher Sal Castro who mentor the students and encourage them to fight for their rights was one of the most supportive teachers in this movement. One specific example where Castro helped students was by reading them poems that inspire the students and make them believe they were all equal, Through his teachings he would tell students they were all important and equal as everyone for example at the beginning of the film he stated “you are learning your history from people that don’t know your history”
Walkout was a powerful movie it showed that Latinos are more than garbage pickers and lawn mowers . I loved that movie and it was actually my 3rd time watching the movie . The movie showed the power of unity ,persistence and determination . Honestly I loved the Movie and all I can say is that , that movie made me proud to be a Latino even though i'm not mexican -American it represented all lations that were doubted and told that they can't get big time jobs
Although the film was extremely upsetting, I thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie because I learned so much. Throughout the entirety of the film, I felt heartbroken and ashamed. I think I felt this way because being a white, upper-middle class individual, I have never experienced anything similar to what Africans Americans go through daily.
My least favorite part of the movie that I noticed change was when people were burning the cross to put what I would call fear in the black community. However, a white boy named Jonathan tried to stop them with no prevail; when he realized he wasn’t going to be able, he then went to the police station to report them and the white officer was giving him a hard time because he wanted to help the blacks. I very much disliked this part, but to see that part of the white community was fed up with the ways and wanted change, showed me that changing factors were about. One of my favorite parts of the movie was when Sheyann got up in front of the church to sing, because the song that she sung had an enormous amount meaning and the song I think describes the theme of the movie, Don’t ever give up for what you believe in no matter how tough it
After watching this movie, it gave me an appreciation of where I am from and all ancestors before me. This is definitely a movie that I recommend every black person watch. The movie was well written.
I thought the movie was fantastic! The characters were perfect and so well played. It really showed all the great aspects of Jackie Robinson and his family. It also portrayed all of the hardships he had to go through and live with everyday. The message the movie was sending is that racial barriers have been broken, and many other barriers can be broken as well as long as you persevere. I learned all about Jackie Robinson, his family and how he became involved in Major League Baseball. I would most definitely recommend using the movie in class to support a content area. We could probably spend an entire week on the movie and race ideologies. This movie was a perfect example of the ideology, and it teaches you about it too. Overall it was a great film, and I am so glad it came out in time for this
The three movies I decided to watch were Leave It on the Floor, New Muslim Cool, and Terrors of Tiny Town. Leave It on the Floor is a musical about a young man named Brad who gets kicked out of his home and finds refuge in the drag community. New Muslim Cool is a documentary about a man who converts to Islam and turns his life around. He once was a drug dealer and now is a man who helps others and spreads the word of Islam. Terrors of Tiny Town is a musical and a Western with a cast made up entirely of dwarfs. The film is about a feud between two families. I chose to write my film review about Leave It on the Floor because it was the most interesting and entertaining to me. It is one of those movies that you cannot stop thinking about after you watch it. We talked a lot about the LGBTQ community in another class I am taking this semester so I thought this movie was a good choice for me to dive deeper into. Paris is Burning came up a lot in our discussion of this topic and it was great to finally watch it. The documentary is incredibly enlightening with regards to the struggles of young adults who identify as LGBTQ.
It was amazing to see how much Ella Baker was ahead of her time. She was a strong, independent woman decades before there was a women's movement. I was very interested in the issues that she had with Dr. Martin Luther King and his style of leadership. To me it was important to see that not all the leaders agreed but knew to respect each other because they were fighting for the same cause. It was also interesting to see how Ella Baker still contributed to organizations that were not doing thing her way in order to help build coalitions. This I feel was in important factor in the success of many organizations during the movement.
I was most interested by this movie to see how different these girls were just because of their different cultures. Then as we watched them grow up you see how each person's family played a role on their own personal success. Raelene's story interested me the most. I think that because her mom didnt care, Raelene failed. She has her first child at age 14 and dropped out of school only to later get pregnant again and engaged to someone who she says she loves because he doesn't hit her. It also interests me to hear her say if she could do it all over she wouldnt cahnge a thing. I wanted to hit her. This girl could go so far, she could get out of her town and go to college she could work and get her own
I believe that the movie Dead Man Walking impacted my life greatly. It was a very emotional and moving movie. This was an excellent movie because it portrayed the feelings of both the families of the victims and the murder himself. It shows how much pain and suffering the families had to go through with all the sadness and hatred against Matthew Poncelant. The movie also showed how that the families' hatred did not go away after Matthew was executed. The greatest emotional part of the movie was when Matthew confessed that he did kill the teenagers and that he was truly sorry. From there, he was able to at least die with dignity and also he asked the parents of the teenagers for their forgiveness for him. This movie also showed how the
Although this film is disadvantaging to many people, it is also very beneficial. I think people that come from the lower class or an abusive household can really benefit from this film. The main point of this film is to show people that you can achieve anything you want to do no matter what background you come from, and although it might be hard because of economical/ personal issues you are not less of a person than anyone and you can still be successful. I love the idea of success because it doesn’t really have a set definition. You don’t necessarily need money to be/feel successful. You can work at Subway and still be successful while a twelve time Oscar winning actor can be successful. You sort of carve out your own success and make your own definition for it. This movie will also teach people that they are not on their own. Although you might think nobody is there for you, when you enter a room you don’t know what everyone is thinking or how everyone feels; you might now even know everyone. It is kind of like when you’re putting together a puzzle, you put certain pieces together and you get closer to finishing and you just need to keep trying to solve the puzzle because if you give up you just wasted your money on a puzzle
Even though the film was meant to funny, it did make me think about different cultural preduice and obstacles interacial relationships may face. Over all I enjoyed the film it poked fun at racial prejudice and brought some good topics to the table. However, I wish they would have take the opportunity to have gone deeper into racism and brought it out into the open for people to
In the light of, the director makes good points through the whole movie about what they went through. I like this movie because it gives me more information of the people who were involved or who were there during that time. Like, Ann Lee Coper (Oprah Winfrey), Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo), and the rest of the people who help fight for African Americans to be able to vote. The movie also shows the difficult and the happy time they went through. Even the problems with their family. No matter what’s going on, they were still focus and full invested in having freedom. What I learned from this movie was that they did not let all the obstacles of what they went through mess up their main goal because of that I am able to take those lesson for my
Get Out dares to show that racism is embedded into people mostly from their families and their communities, no one is born racist but people are raised into that way of life. It also dares to show that saying I am not racist or I could have voted for Obama three times if I could or being married to a black person or being friends with a black person is not an excuse for the fact that if someone is racist they are racist; the kind of people always think racism is something you do as opposed to something you believe. It also shows there is no specific way of identifying a racist person, it’s not like they have a tattoo on them
Overall I thought this was a really good movie. I thought it taught you a lot about diversity, women’s rights, poverty and peace. The movie was a very touching and inspiring movie; there is also a lot of emotion due to what they had to deal with on an everyday basis. To me the movie and their stories really teach you that you should be aware of your surroundings and to be helpful in your
