I believe that yes, art can make a difference. Artists create arts to bring people together, raise an awareness or t make a statement regarding an issue. For instance, people would create artistic posters and such to help raise awareness to issues like rape, or texting and driving. In the movie Waste Land, Muniz along with the workers of the garbage landfill used recycled materials from the garbage to create amazing portrait-like artwork that represents each of the main characters in the documentary. The materials used in the documentary is somewhat different to traditional art materials mainly because people mostly use a canvas and paint to create portraits or take a photograph and such. Many other artists have used recycled materials to
Literature of the eighties reflects a general atmosphere of fear at the time—fear of the unfamiliar, of death and disease. Outside of the books from that era, we can see where in American society this fear came from, how it weaved around what was alien and strangled it. We can retrospectively watch as it manifests itself in the roots of the AIDS epidemic, an outbreak of disease that took tens of thousands of lives because its origins were unknown, and it affected those who were different from the majority, those who the majority could not understand. These thematic nuances—the unknown, the unfamiliar, the fear of these things—repeatedly emerge in eighties’ texts. Whether it be novels, plays or short stories, the strange, the diseased, the dead and the terror of a combination of these things is strikingly evident. White Noise by Don DeLillo, for example, provides its audience with a depiction of a landscape of fear in the eighties. It reflects how the average American felt about impending doom, about society and the changes in society that were unknown to them. It provides a basis of understanding why later, when AIDS decimated almost an entire portion of a society, these average Americans abandoned their sick friends, family members or neighbors. Angels in America, a play by Tony Kushner, shows how this fear influenced the others, people made alien by their disease or sexual orientation. Kushner’s play brings to light how othering, the process of making someone separate from
The thought of art is more than what you see it is what you feel and what you learn from looking at it. Art can heal the soul and create and new outlook on images we may see every day. Sadly, we may not always see the art in things, pieces, or, humans.
The novel that I have decided to make a report on is the book Ashfall by Mike Mullin. My reaction to the book Ashfall was "Wow, Alex is really brave". If I was in his situation , I don't think I would have reacted the way he reacted. Alex took control and focused on one thing and that was finding his family.
“I don't think art can change things. I think writing can do more. But art can prepare people for change, it can be educational and persuasive in people’s thinking.” Although art may not change someone's opinion it can get them to think about why their opinion is being challenged. This is what Elizabeth Catlett meant when she said her famous quote.
The definition of art is “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.”(Oxford Dictionaries). Art comes in many forms and not all art is a painting or a drawing. Throughout the book, characters use art skillfully, art is for survival and is a tool to withstand or to escape the corrupt government. Additionally, art is a powerful force that communicates messages through a picture. Furthermore, what allows art to have a powerful impact is that art is expressive. Their messages and stories are very powerful from the artist. In New Middletown, art is what helps Max withstand. In Catherine Austen’s All Good Children, art is a positive force in the novel.
I'm sure artists can agree that art is not something written in stone, it is a matter that is always changing. Looking back at eighteenth century artist and comparing them to artists of today, there are many factors that have changed; from composition and color, to technique and even canvases. There are always trends in the design field. Personally, I don't believe that a single artist can have the responsibility of making a direct impact on the world of art; however, he/she can influence and impact his/her audience to go out and make a difference. So in an era where every individual is caught up and distracted with the media to be focused on world problems, the only real way to communicate with the world is through media, which is where illustration and entertainment come into play.
There were some of her works that were produced from readymade objects. For instance, Overburden/ seed crystal - unheeded, 2016, was a photograph of her sculpture Remedial action/deadweigh. Like her other paintings, it was her style to create various layers in her works. From the far back, there was the same black and white photo she used in Residual Assets (scrap), 2015, and with sculpture display in front of it, finally, she overlaid a layer of crystal fragments on top of it. Every single element is black and white except the
It can teach patience and determination. Having something tangible to see what they are capable of helps students with self-esteem. It allows them to develop confidence instead of just being told that they need to have it. Art is not just a grade but rather something that students created and something that they can take pride in because there is no one else out there that can make what they did. Art allows students to become engaged in what they are doing because the outcome is not some number on an arbitrary scale. It is something real that ecourages students to want to solve the problems that they encounter. It lets them experiment without fear of failure because there is always another
Foremost, Art is a chance to create something out of the ordinary. It can be a stress reliever and help our town thrive. Art can help kids be creative plus learn to show a new perspective in their work. If your kid has no chance to be involved with something physical they just sit at home with nothing to do or play video games. That would mean that they cannot create or express themselves. With our art school the people of our town would see more art. The
My book is Salt to the sea by Ruta Sepetys. It’s about 4 characters, Florian Beck, Joana, Emilia, and Alfred, in WW2 trying to get aboard a ship named the Wilhelm Gustloff. Florian is a “Prussian” and keeps a secret later revealed in the book. Joana is a Lithuanian nurse who is traveling with a small group trying to get aboard the ship. Emilia is a 15 year old Polish girl also trying to get to the ship. Alfred is a German sailor who operated the ship. The author probably chose this setting because this is when the real event happened.
Art can help us accept our role in the Earth, for art can show us different perspectives that we had never thought about. Through art, people can learn about ethics and moral issues where they could have not in real life. The Harry Potter books deal with racism through the separation of classes in the Wizarding World, and many children who had never had access to such information were able to learn and broaden their minds. Through escaping the world and learning about blood purity in Harry Potter, the child, after done reading, is able to create connections to modern-day and historical racial
Art is a catalyst of change. It can confront both social and political issues as well as providing people with a creative outlet in which they can express their innermost thoughts and feelings - but what effect can art have on our society as a whole? Artists today have the unique ability to connect with people in a creative, innovative way that they can understand and interpret themselves. With this ability, artists are able to express their own views as well as influencing the views of others. Art is an immense part of our world – so much so that we barely even consider its impact upon us – but just how significant is the work of artists in our modern day society?
Art is not just a picture on a wall or in a museum, art comes in many forms. It can be a song you just heard, a video you watched, or a painting you saw in a gallery. Also, art can be just text. All forms of art grasp you in different ways and make your thoughts evolve to new distances. Art can bring you feelings you did not think you had. You can perceive the art in many ways and the creator wants it to influence you. I believe that yes, at can truly influence society and inform human behavior. While it may seem to some that pictures, songs, and videos influence you the most, it is actually true that books are the most influential and informative because they get in touch with your mind and emotions.
Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying.
In addition, art can be a way people can help express and bring attention to their own ideas. David again says that if a person were to find an inspirational art piece, say on a building or poster, then those art pieces will help a person become motivated to make a change in their world. Furthermore, if a person were to create inspirational art then that allows a person to get their own ideas across to the world. That person may be the one to help people make a change or that piece of art can show the creator of the art is trying to make a difference in their world. So to restate, “everywhere [people] go art is evident. Parks often use sculptures to add interest and to inform people.
