A major problem in the USA today is the fact that Americans waste a lot. The main focus of this fact is the many different things that we waste, although steps are being made to fix the problem of us wasting so many resources.
One thing we waste unfortunately is water. For example, One waste of water is many people take bathes instead of showers. Taking a shower saves water by only using a small amount of the water that is needed, to fill the whole tub. Another waste of water is leaving the water running while doing the dishes. The water should always be turned off between rinses. Furthermore doing a full load of laundry when washing your clothes is a waste of water. Therefore make sure that the washer is completely full before starting

This is very common in most households. People leave the door open while putting away groceries or when looking for a snack. A way to solve this problem is to know what you want before you look for a snack, and shut the door between items while putting away the groceries. Wasting electricity can be a very expensive. We need to be careful how we conserve our energy.
Americans waste a lot of recyclable goods, such as paper, glass, and plastic.
Paper products are frequently wasted at home and at work. Discarded newspapers and old grocery bags is one example of wasted paper. The solution to saving paper is easy just take all of your old paper products to a local recycling center. Another piece of thrash that is wasted often is glass. Old pickle jars, mayonnaise jars, and jelly jars are thrown away carelessly in the trash when they can easily be washed and reused or recycled. The last piece of garbage that is frequently wasted is plastic. Plastic is wasted very often in milk cartons, soda bottles, and most other containers. Plastic is probably the most wasted thing that we use. Ether washing or reusing can easily conserve plastic. You can also recycle plastic like the other two things. Wasting of glass, paper, and plastic can be prevented if people would take the time to recycle.
Americans may be a wasteful people but with discipline and self-control the war against waste can be won. Keep aware about waste and you
we’re wasteful. In order to find solutions for our trash problem, we must first admit that we are
Our world is wasting valuable resources left and right, as addressed in both essays “Waste Not, Want Not”” by Bill McKibbens, and “Forget Shorter Showers” by Derrick Jensen. In “Waste Not, Want Not”” Bill McKibbens focuses on the importance of preserving our recourses. He mentions how wasteful the human race is, and how un-necessary all of the things that cause waste really are. In “Forget Shorter Showers” Derrick Jensen leans more towards the idea that no matter what humans do, they are incapable of wining. Either they lose their opportunity for economical and intellectual growth, or they lose their precious recourses and clean world. Both writers realize that we are wasting recourses, and believe that change is necessary for advancement. While the writers may have similar views, they have different ideas on how to solve the issue, and use different methods of communicating their ideas.
Wasting is something we’re all fond of doing; it has become a very popular issue in my city. Whether arising from lack of time to consume, or greed driven. The council is stopping land fill, and having household waste collected in groups i.e. Glass, metal, food waste, plastic and paper. This assures quick delivery to recycling plants to be materially
One thing Americans waste is electricity. First of all many Americans will leave the lights on in a room that is not occupied is a key example of a waste of electricity. To conserve energy all one has to do is shut off the lights when leaving a room. Americans have gotten used to leaving lights on that it has become a habit. An additional waste of electric is leaving the television on all night, whenever they are not home, or when they are out of the room. Most televisions have an option nowadays to set a timer for the TV to shut off by itself. If a person is afraid of the dark they should invest in a night light that saves energy. And last but not least when people are hungry, they dig around in the refrigerator looking for something to eat; leaving the refrigerator door open too long waste electric. A prime example of leaving the refrigerator door open is while putting away groceries or when looking
“Does the U.S. have a chance of reducing the amount of waste in the world today?”
The biggest source of waste is paper, every time a letter is opened, the envelope is thrown away, and when printing goes wrong the paper is thrown away. Ink cartridges from printers and photocopiers are thrown away when empty, as are multiple pens when they run out of ink.
Here are some other things that waste are pennies, vending machines don't accept them, claw machines don't accept them and also gumball machines don't accept them. Those are just a few
Americans account for only five percent of the world’s population, but create half of the globe’s solid waste. Americans toss out the equivalent of $165 billion in food each year. All of that time, energy, and freshwater- for nothing. How can the United States, being so small in number, produce so much waste? Brad Plumer from the Washington Post documented a recent report from the Natural Resources Defense Council that attempts to track America’s food, from “farm to fork.” Plumer breaks the report down into seven different wasteful places along the American food production line: Farming, post-harvest and packing, processing and distribution, retail and grocery stores, food service and restaurants, households, and disposal.
It is all of our duty to eliminate waste. From the farmers to the consumers. I believe we should find more ways to help eliminate how much we waste. Somehow we need to make the nation and world conscious of the decisions they're making and how it impacts Earth. Most people probably don’t realize how they’re contributing to our waste problem when they throw out the leftovers from last
Every human being impacts the world they live in, especially Americans. Americans live for what’s new and what’s in; in The Wastemkers, Vance Packer identifies this wastefulness as a part of the American culture. Vance Packer may have written this book over 50 years ago, but the issue still applies to now. Not only do Americans participate in this wasteful culture, but they also take pride in it: boasting about every penny they spend and how ‘new is always better’, but what they fail to realize is this wasteful culture is exceptionally harmful in various ways.
“In Waste Not, Want Not” author Bill McKibben, makes several arguments about how wasteful Americans are. Throughout the essay McKibben provides facts that show the degree of how much waste is built up daily. The author emphasizes waste throughout the essay by giving the reader an idea of much plastic, aluminum, paper, lithium, and food are wasted daily. If humans do not come together to help reduce the amount of waste, eventually planet earth will not be able to provide a stable environment to sustain life. Life as we know it is slowly coming closer and closer to the end, and without a joint effort to protect the environment and limit waste the end of life will come sooner than expected.
In 1970, when Americans produced 121 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), three-quarters went directly into landfills, one-fifth was incinerated, and less
In our homes waste caused because we don’t pay attention; we are inattentive and ignorant. For some of us, it just isn’t important. (Jones, Dive!)
These days, our earth has been filled by a lot of waste. There is a lot of garbage, plastic waste, and electronic waste. We always produce it and dump it when we need the new one. Our waste are piling up and continuously accumulating. Plastic waste is one of the biggest problems for us now. And our solution in this problem is recycling. In my opinion, recycling is a way to manage used items into new products. We can reduce, reuse, and recycling (3R) waste management (Peter, 2013). We can reduce our waste clothes with reuse it. There are some reasons why peoples recycle used or unwanted items, which are, prevent wasting unusable materials that still have usage after recycled, reduce the application of raw materials, reduce energy
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
