After listening to RadioLab and learning about Wesley Autrey, I learned that everyone is capable of being a hero. Hero’s are not only people who wears capes, have a heroic name, or get paid for their bravery. Hero’s can be anyone who puts their life at risk in order to save the lives of others through bravery and courage. They are usually selfless, warm hearted, individuals who seeks the need to save a life in desperate times. Wesley Autrey, a New York City construction worker, is the perfect example of a hero. Mr. Autrey portrays heroism on his way home from work, with his two daughter, at the train station. when a 20 years old men suffers from a seizure and falls on the train tracks, while a train was on rout, Wesley Autrey made a rapid
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strenght and bravery to overcome overwhelming obstacles. A hero is someone who has given their life to something bigger than oneself. People think thought time create heros, but on the contrary, it is during the tough times that the hero within us is revealed. A hero is someone who willingly walks into the unknown. Todd Beamer was extremely brave and made the ultimate sacrifice to save many others becoming a true hero on a terrible day.
A hero is someone who puts themselves before others. Heroic acts can range from small gestures to saving countless lives. Heroes are known for their bravery and outstanding achievements. Todd Beamer is a hero because because he was selfless and courageous and will sacrifice himself for others.
The definition of a hero is someone who risks their lives to save someone who they know or don’t know. And knowing they would die but going anyways.
Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Hero’s are around us in our everyday lives such as firefighters who put their lives on the line to protect people and their property. Other hero’s can be found in literature. These hero’s, also know as an epic hero, exhibit superhuman qualities to help fight and protect others while on their quest. Being a hero means taking on enormous responsibilities. With these responsibilities comes great praise from others which both Beowulf and everyday firefighter receive for their extraordinary work.
Ricky Martin once said, “Heroes represent the best of ourselves, respecting that we are human beings. A hero can be anyone from Ghandi to your classroom teacher, anyone who can show courage when faced with a problem. A hero is someone who is willing to help others in his or her best capacity.” Almost anyone can be a hero, as long as they have the courage and the maturity to understand and respect those who they attempt to help. Despite the fact that a hero cannot save everyone, being heroic is about placing others before oneself and strive to help those who need it the most.
This quote also explains that anyone can be a hero. You don’t have to be rich, or a celebrity. A hero is someone who works hard to achieve goals while making the right decision. A hero inspires other people to make the right choice. Tristan Seger, a man who had lost his leg in the military, inspires people everyday to push through the rough times.
“It’s not easy to be a hero. You do it because of what you believe, not because of what other people deserve.” Anyone can face a challenge or a hardship. But what makes a true hero is how the person takes on the challenge. Often, heroes show feats of ingenuity and acts of bravery. Two heroes that acted during the American Civil Rights Movement, were Martin Luther King Jr, and Rosa Parks. A hero is a person who has demonstrated behaviors to ethically receive our appreciation and respect. A hero is an ordinary person who finds the strength within themselves to persevere and undergo hardships and calamity.
As Novalis a famous German poet and philosopher once stated, “A hero is one who knows how to hang on one minute longer.” A hero shows worry as all people do, but can push through and be courageous. A hero works for others, not thinking of themselves. Because heroes are people who put others before themselves, going above and beyond without the worry of their own safety.
Many people can have different opinions on what a hero is and the article touches base with all of them. A hero can be someone who is experienced and who has done things, and can be courageous and posses bravery. A hero could be defined as a skilled person with many special things about them. Self sacrificing and ready to do whatever is needed to be done is another of the many characteristics it takes to be a hero. One final characteristic would be indepent. Someone who doesn’t mind to do things himself. After listing these characteristics, Mike Martin from The Afghan is a hero who posses all of those things.
When I was 14 years old I toured my first Military Institute at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. I witness first hand American Troops returning from Desert Storm with numerous life threatening injuries sustained during combat. Troops who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country 's freedom. I recall asking myself “What is a hero? And what it symbolizes in our modern world?” and “What does a hero look like?”, my vision of a hero as a kid included a cartoon character with superpowers wearing a cape, Instead as I stared at a young Army Sergeant, burned beyond recognition sitting on wheelchair, unable to walk as he lost both limbs while in combat, That is when I recall asking myself again, “What is a hero?” The term hero comes from the Ancient Greeks, for them a man of great strength and courage favored by the gods and in part descended from them, often regarded as a demigod and worshiped after his death. Despite decades of envisioning a hero as a cartoon figure such as Batman, Superman and Spiderman, my heroes wear desert camouflage BDU’s. Although in the vision of some, a hero may be inspiring weather it to be oneself or to others, A hero is a person who saves lives. My vision of a hero intel 's of both qualities in addition to bravery and courage which may have been someone who saves lives or puts their own life on the line to save another, the definition of a hero may be different in someone else 's visions. Personal athlete or famous
What is a hero? Or, better, what makes a hero? We all know about the Hollywood heroes. they rush into trouble to save those they love. They risk their lives for others and sometimes lose their own. Regular veterans risk everything, not just their lives, but also their families’ and their country’s freedom and lives’ everyday they have served.
Most people hear the word heroism and instantly think of capes and gadgets carried and worn by humans with superficial powers; however, that is not always the case. Heroes, cape or no cape, take on any challenge with determination. Even without recognition they deserve, heroes stay determined and persevere until they have overcome the obstacle put in front of them. Standing alone does not stop them either. If they know they are doing the right thing they do not hesitate to make a change to help the people around them.
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer,” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). A hero is just like an ordinary person, but they make a choice to rescue someone, and put their life on the line. For instance, a hero is valiant when they need to be, sacrifices themself for another, and they don't put another in harm’s way.
A hero is someone that shows courage and bravery and is admired for their actions. Sometimes, a hero is someone unexpected and would never have been thought to be a hero by anyone because of who they are, or what and where they come from. One example of unexpected heroism, is from three greasers, Dallas Winston, Johnny Cade, and Ponyboy Curtis from The Outsiders. Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy can be considered heroes because of some actions and choices they made.
Heroes are not always people who lead marches or do things for their country. For example policemen, firefighters, nurses, lifeguards etc. are heroes everyday because they take the time to save lives. When they’re going through a challenge or trying to overcome a conflict they always have courage. These people risk their own life to save someone else’s. To be more specific Dr. Ginger Holt from Dallas had saved a little boy’s leg. She was confident and determined to finding out what went wrong in the boy’s leg and went through many procedures looking at the tests.
