Shel Silverstein
Shel Silverstein was a loved and famed poet, singer/songwriter, and children’s book writer, cartoonist, and screenwriter. This essay will talk about why he is a famed poet and how he got where he is today, his childhood, and some of his life accomplishments. First of all, Shel Silverstein was born on September 25 1930 in the city of Chicago. He was born into a family of 3 his mom Helen, his dad Nathan, and his sister Peggy. Due to him being with an Immigrant Jewish family during the Great Depression, he had a very grueling first years of his life so he had to put in more effort in school to get where he is today. Once he got through high school, he decided to enroll in the military and served in Japan and Korea.
On Feb. 27, 1902, in Salinas, California, John Ernst Steinbeck Jr was born.His father, John Ernst Steinbeck worked several jobs, while his mother, Olive Hamilton Steinbeck was a former schoolteacher. Steinbeck had a mostly happy childhood – he grew up with three sisters, was smart, and formed an early appreciation for the land. Steinbeck decided to become a writer at the age of 14, writing many poems and stories. He enrolled in Stanford University in 1919, but dropped out in 1925 without a degree.
In his early thirties he started writing poetry for himself as he couldn’t do much else. His poetry has taken him all around the world talking to schools, universities, workplaces, construction sites and many more.
Elie Wiesel was born on September 30th, 1928, in Sighet. Sighet was a small town in Transylvania that was apart of Romania but became part of Hungary in 1940. Elie and his family spoke Yiddish
Elie Wiesel was born in 1928. He was born in the town of Sighet, Transylvania. Unfortunately, he became a victim of the Jewish Holocaust, Adolf Hitler was running the country when the holocaust started. Elie was a teenager when he was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944. He had to overcome constant death around him. He was separated from his mom and sisters. He suffered humiliation and watched people die everyday from starvation. He had to overcome the death of all his family and everyone he knew. These adversities made him a great and generous man.

Shel Silverstein’s life and its relations to Children’s Poetry Shel Silverstein is one of those poets where everyone reads their work as a child. From “The Giving Tree,” to “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” and lastly “A light in the attic.” Shel’s work will forever live on.
“I would hope that people, no matter what age, would find something to identify with my books…,” Shel Silverstein. (Ward 13) Throughout Shel Silverstein’s books he writes things that seem like a simple poem, but when the poems are deciphered they reveal a much deeper meaning. A situation may seem like a silly story about magic, but in reality it is a situation that encourages people to reach their full potential and take all they can from life. This also alludes to the fact that individuals can change the world by simply being themselves and portraying a positive image about themselves to the world. Furthermore, Shel Silverstein’s books encourage people to be themselves and to not let others influence how they think of themselves. Through Silverstein’s various works he has encouraged all age groups to embrace their individuality and he has taught people various life lessons through a more understandable medium.
Elie Wiesel was a young boy, when his life changed drastically. He was born in Sighet, Transylvania, which is now Romania. He was born to Shlomo and Sarah, which they had four children, Hilda, Bea, Tsiporah, and Eliezer. Wiesel and his family practiced the Jewish religion, before he was forced into the concentration camps.

Shel Silverstein was born in Chicago, Illinois 1932 and died May 10, 1999 from a heart attack. Shel Silverstein was a well know and well liked author/poet. Silverstein noticed his talents when he was twelve years old. When most boys are playing sports and chasing girls, Shel was at home writing and drawing original pieces. His talents were well developed by the time he served in the US Armed Forces during the 1950's. While in the military he was a cartoonist for the Pacific Edition of the military newspaper Stars and Stripes. After his time spent in the military he became a cartoonist for Playboy in 1956. Those works for Playboy were then published into collections named " A Playboy's Teevee Jeebies" and "More Playboy's Teevee Jeebies
	Few writers of the twentieth century have made nearly the same impact on the literary society than Sheldon Allan Silverstein. His writing encompasses a broad range of styles, from adult to children’s, comical to unusual. One of his most common styles was that of fantasy: actions and events that cannot logically happen. This style was evident in his works, the Loser, Thumb Face, Warning, Squishy Touch, and Skin Stealer. Through the description of these absurd circumstances, Silverstein was able to entertain readers of all ages.
