When the word “protest” is brought up, everyone gets stereotypical and assumes it is violently, especially when one is protesting war . Some people protest through writing. These writers protest using different literary devices, such as imagery, irony, and structure. War has unique touch to everyone’s life who encounters this. Each individual deals with the effects of war in different ways. The authors Stephen Crane, Wilfred Owen, Tim O’Brien, and Kevin Powers express their feelings by writing.
ARTivism dismantles the idea of “art for art’s sake” by giving a meaning to art. It exposes truths that become hidden or are erased by social structures, which oppresses the people who live out those truths. Portraying activism through this medium allows for people to connect in a creative way as art is able to speak volumes for those who do not have a voice to speak out against injustices against them. During the time of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers, Chicano farm workers created a movement to fight for better wages and working conditions in the fields they worked. In addition to protesting, they utilized
Socially conscious art confronts and engages the viewer in critical awareness and thought, and protest artists create worlds where oppression and victimization are met with organized resistance. During the Vietnam war, many artists and activists — in America and internationally — focused on the perceived lies and atrocities of the war and urged for radical alternatives. Artists who became involved with the antiwar protest posited graphic rebuttals to the status quo of their time, and their visually artistic dissent commented on both the horrors of war and as well as on a state of current events in definite need of change. In the mid 1960s, Antiwar activists argued that America’s corporate capitalism profited from the war in Vietnam.
Art most definitely should question the status quo. Art is a form of someone's expression on a particular issue, and our expression and beliefs on a issue is what makes us all individuals. We are all not the same so art shouldn't be either.
Activism by definition is “a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue.” It is the ability of the people to do radical things in
The style of art of Political Protest is often driven from anger, brutality, war, protest and feelings of government misrepresentation. People stand in the streets chanting and holding signs. They’re here because of some injustice they face. They will not comply with the laws that obstruct their natural rights, and they desire change. Some believe that resistance to laws could be harmful to the unity of a society however, it is absolutely imperative to the success of Republican government. Protest is empowering to underrepresented groups and brings attention to issues that need it, which could never be corrected without some form of resistance. When the inherent rights of the people are threatened by a government system, peaceful resistance to laws is necessary and will positively impact a free society.
The article, Uprisings by George Didi-Huberman explains the actions that coexist with an uprising against authorities and the meanings of those actions. The article defines the term “uprisings” as “a trans-disciplinary exhibition on the theme of human gestures that raise up the world or rise up against it: collective or individual gestures, action or passions, works or thoughts” (Didi-Huberman, 2017). There are five different components that make up the aesthetic for an uprising: Elements, Gestures, Words, Conflicts, and Desires. Elements are the factors that make the people want to upraise against authorities and their laws. The action to go forward with rising and the idea of committing to the action are the gestures portion. The purpose
Looking through the history and development of human beings when people face problems, they would like to solve them. There were many ways of solving problems, people would either kill each other to reach a goal or do trades with each other. Later, there were different levels between people, the way of people who don’t many right started to use movements to solve the problem. It is all about causing and solving problem. I think an effective way of fulfilling the purpose of this paper would be to pick out different examples of activist art produced during the civil rights movement, and explain how each of those examples inherited the potential to disrupt the established stereotypical and racist image that contributed to the unjust perception and treatment of the African American culture. I then plan to search for literature, whether on the internet or in in the library, that will also support my ideas on how those examples of activist art actively contributed to the cultural shift necessary for the civil rights movement. For example, I plan on doing more research on the activist group Black Panthers and describing how they utilized performance art in order to achieve their goal of shifting cultural awareness. Of course, I also plan on placing an emphasis on the deliberation that was invested to each of the art works to show the level of complexity and intellect that activist art requires in order to fulfill its political or social goal. In essence, I plan to show how all these deliberations worked together to achieve
Student activism can be disturbing the status quo of the college in some cases because they will show up in different ways or protest one of the problems they are struggling with. This disturbance of the status quo could have good results in many ways because the number of students who show up can be a sign of the depth and importance of the problem. Also, it can represent if there is any bias behind their activities for a general effective problem. In some cases, this disturbance of the status quo can have some destructive patterns like disturbing the classes or make damages like painting on the walls. These need to be controlled by lessening the voice of student activists and try to make the stable. This disturbing can have good effects

I plan to answer the following essential question: how can art be used to depict political views? I also hope to address these other questions that follow the essential one: Do “political art” and “propaganda art” mean the same thing? How can I make meaningful art from political perspectives that are not my own? Why do certain political symbols and images spread (the pink “pussy hats”,
