What Does Being Healthy Mean to You?
I want you to think about what you believe in, because I am going to tell you what I believe in. I believe that people should be more active. Some people may wonder why being healthy is such an important thing. There are many reasons as to why being active is good for you. Exercise can help individuals fight obesity, attain a health body, and lose weight.
Being active helps to decrease obesity—not just in adult lives, but in children's lives too. An active lifestyle fights childhood and adult obesity. I know that the need for children to go outside and play more is being talked about often. If a child goes outside only once a week for 30 minutes, that will not help. Children should exercise several times
Becoming increasingly more active is vital to combating and reducing obesity in children. Healthful, fitness habits, then, must be jumpstarted at institutions where all American children spend mandatory time, such as in a child’s school; evidently, “normal weight children get 16 more minutes of
More than half of adults in the United States are considered to be overweight or obese. America is becoming unhealthy and it needs to change. Adults should exercise daily. Daily exercise can stimulate happiness, prevent or delay disease, and affects health positively. First, exercise causes the brain to be more alert which has a positive impact on the human body, creating a great feeling psychologically that can be associated with happiness. The world will be a happier place with happy people. Furthermore, disease is a large epidemic today, but did you know that daily exercise can help prevent or delay disease? Doctors could diagnose their patients sooner rather than later, resulting in a healthier treatment plan and then a healthier Earth. Finally, daily exercise is just an overall helpful key to good health. The less fat an adult has on his body, the healthier he could potentially be. With that being said, hours and hours of physical activity are not needed, but as little as 15 minutes a day could benefit human lifespan. Overall, adults should exercise daily because exercise stimulates happiness, can prevent or delay disease, and affects health positively.
In order to combat childhood obesity, parents need to take action now. One way parents can get involved is to encourage their children to be physically active. Turning off the televisions, video games and internet is the first step. Getting involved with your children’s activity level will promote good relationships and provide motivation. Making physical activity fun, by having competitive games or introducing your children into organized sports and recreations, will promote the physical activity needed to assist in fighting childhood obesity.
Physical activity also has benefits for children's social and emotional development and cognitive development. These benefits include being part of a team and making friends through group sports, which have a major impact on social and emotional development. The effect of obesity on children is closely linked to many bad health habits such as diet, smoking and drug use which in turn can affect a child's academic performance (Goran et al., 1999). Physical activity, if encouraged at a young age, can reduce the likelihood of children developing these behaviours and focus on their academic performance and cognitive development. As children in this age range are in their fundamental development stage, it is important that educators and parents alike, teach children about the importance of physical activity at a young age in order to prevent health and social well-being problems in their adult years.
Childhood obesity is not an immediately lethal disease, but it leads to significant risk factors associated with a range of serious non-communicable disease during adulthood (Shree, 2013). Parents in our communities should engage their children in physical activities. Parents and children should play outside frequently to enjoy time together. This activity may help children to be more active and reduce the risk of obesity. Parents can educate their children to have healthier eating habits, improving physical activities, avoiding fatty food and learning about the importance of a balanced diet to prevent future problems of obesity. Giving to your children a snack sized zip lock bag with their snack for school or afterschool program can create healthier eating habits.
Today’s generation of children is the most inactive and obese in all of U.S. history (Loonin, 54). Poor exercise habits are developed as early as preschool age (All children above the age of 2 should be getting at least an hour of exercise a day in order to stay healthy and maintain a healthy weight (Overweight and Obesity, 2). Many young children have become accustomed to staying inside and using electronics, where they do not have to exert much energy whereas going outside and playing would. The average child in today’s society spends up to
There are those who want to become a doctor to keep others healthy and those who want to become a counsellor to also, keep others healthy. This shows that trying to simplify the term ‘health’ into one universal definition could be a difficult task. Physical health that can be tested through x-rays and blood tests, issues such as mental and social health however cannot be tested. A person who is suffering from depression and a person who has a fever should hold the same level of importance to a doctor, parent and society. Health just like people can come in all different shapes and sizes. Health for everyone is not the same. This is shown in different teachings of different disciplines as well. The author defines health as being mentally and physically content with one’s self.
The absence of activity and proper rest has been associated with obesity in children, adolescents and adults. Physical activity habits, and, specifically, inactivity, track significantly from adolescence into young adulthood. Because poor children have fewer opportunities for outdoor exercise or organized sports participation, we expect physical activity will mediate the effects of
Obesity is a wide spreading disease determined on body weight. It is a major problem in the United States. It affects over 30% of children in America. Over a period of time, if obesity isn’t taken care of properly, it can form into cancer and other forms of diseases. Obesity is the most common chronic disease and highly interferes with health in America. If everyone works together, we can lower America’s obesity rate by getting kids to stay active and eat healthier.
The rate of childhood obesity has grown an enormous amount over the years with more than 40 million children being overweight! That number is astonishingly high and it is very obvious that something needs to be done about this. Studies had shown in 2008 that more than 40 million children were said to be overweight and the sad truth is that they are still increasing rapidly to this day; also every 1 in 4 teenagers is said to not reach the fitness guidelines (Tanner) according to an article by Lindsey Tanner. For this problem to be resolved not only do the parents of children need to make sure their kids are staying active but also, the schools they attend need to make sure they are getting a well-balanced meal and have some type of physical activity during their school day. Each state in America is given a percentage rate on the number of obese people in that particular state. The highest ranking state is Mississippi with a percentage of 34.9 and the state ranking the least is Connecticut with 24.5 percent. Different researches have shown that each day 850 lives are taken due to obesity and each year there are more than 300,000 people that die from obesity related illnesses. These are deaths that most likely could have been avoided if these individuals would have had the proper exercise and diet in their lives.
According to Robert Jacobsen exercise decreases the risk of obesity along with the issues that are associated with obesity. So if people exercise the issue of obesity would be addressed without the necessity of drugs. According to the article “Sports and Health” written by Opposing Viewpoints in Context, sports participation helps control weight and burn calories that would become fat. By losing the excess calories that are consumed, people would be able to remain at a normal weight while eating a normal amount if not a little more. These benefits are also seen in adults who maintain a habit of exercise. Adults who have exercised as a child tend to remain mobile as they grow up. Just as there is a higher tendency for children who were obese to become obese adults, healthy children will grow into healthy adults. In other words, if children were to exercise daily for one hundred fifty minutes weekly they would be able to prevent an increase in obesity rates. However according to Bonnie Rochman, a health scientist and columnist for Time magazine, only six of the fifty states in America follow the standards set by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education.(“Childhood Obesity: Most U.S. Schools Don’t Require P.E.”) Along with the physical benefits of exercise, the psychological effects of exercise are very important in lessening the effects of obesity. As was stated obesity tends to
I believe that physically interactive games can combat childhood obesity by encouraging the player to be active. Pokemon Go for example, motivates the player to search and capture pokemon. When pokemon are caught, they are evaluated to a pokedex; the information about the pokemon’s behavior, ability, level, gender, and habitat are displayed and recorded in the pokedex.
To slow this epidemic of childhood obesity, physical activity needs to be put back in these children’s lives.
Physical Activity is undeniably good for everyone, not only does it keep you fit and healthy but when started at a young age, it can set up good habits for life. Sometimes however, people do not take care of their physical wellbeing, resulting in obesity and other eating disorders which can be detrimental to their health.
Obesity is a very common problem faced, which if not taken care of in time, can lead to many lifestyle diseases such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Engaging in physical activities help to burn calories and lose fat. Regular exercising builds muscles, makes the immune system strong and improves upon stamina. This increases the fitness levels and keeps various diseases and health conditions in check.
