What Does The End Product Would Be?

Decent Essays

Three months seem to have flown by in the blink of an eye and yet so many things have changed in that time. We began this project with very little information about what the end product would be and why we were doing it but we learned a lot along the way.
The purpose of the project was to make us think about what goes on in the sky over time. As it turned out, I was a slow starter. I work full-time and my regular lunch hour is from noon until one o 'clock, therefore making observations at 1:15 p.m. during the beginning of our semester was nearly impossible for me. However, over time my mindset and my methods changed and I eventually got smart and set an alarm on my phone to remind me to make the observations. As the old saying goes - …show more content…

In addition to the shadow getting longer, the declination (or altitude) also changed during the course of our project. Beginning at approximately eleven degrees way back at the end of August and decreasing over time until the end of November when we see the declination at approximately negative twenty degrees. However, I also noticed a variance in the given data from my data of about three to four degrees. My calculations were taken in York and the given calculations were taken in Harrisburg. A question that I would have is whether the small distance and subsequent change in latitude between the observation points would explain the difference in declination or not.
The graph of the altitude measurements or declination is very helpful at showing

the steady decrease in the altitude of the Sun during the course of the project. My personal observations were not as clearly defined, however, when placing them on the graph with the given observations, the whole picture is clear.
The graph of the percentage change in declination did not turn out quite as well for

me. The calculations that I did with the given observations graphed quite nicely and stayed relatively in a line. Then I added my own observations and they pretty much went all over the graph. Based on feedback that I received earlier in the semester, I realize that some of my observations were not coming out correctly, so this may have
