School Around The Year? What if school was year-round? Schools should adopt a year round schedule for a few reasons. One is that students won't have to relearn everything after a summer break and another is that students can take more family trips.
To start with, students don't have to relearn everything they learned before the summer break. According to Year Round School, “Also, students won't have to relearn what they forgot over the summer since they would only be out of school for three weeks at a time.” To clarify, students are out for less time, thus they will remember more of what they learned.
The final reason why schools should have a year-round schedule is students can go on more family trips. According to Year Round School, “Usually
During summer, many students forget what they learned the year before, and teachers must review material done last year. People in year-round schools believe that because of the shorter breaks, teachers have to spend less time reviewing material, and can move forward in their teaching. According to the National Education Association, “one of the main reasons for switching to year-round schools is to improve with student academics.” Although there is no proof, many schools believe a year-round schedule helps improve students academic skills.
Dr. Matthew Lynch from, “Education New” states that, “Students tend to forget a lot during summer break, so a shorter time away from school might increase retention rates” (Watson). Dr.Lynch is saying that having a shorter summer break will tend more to the students, because they will remember and learn more than what a student who has the whole summer off.
If there is year round schooling, there is a higher potential level and students would benefit from having year-round schooling. There are year round schooling which would cause a lot less distractions through the school year. “Suppose in the year round school program, there’s a break every six or eight weeks; that means as soon as students begin to feel settled, they’re off again. If shortened breaks come too frequently, as they’d almost have to in the new system, it becomes harder for students to ever get
For students that take place in extracurricular activities, the year-round schedule would mess with after school practices or competitions. The school could work with the surrounding community to get activities
Why is a year-round school a bad idea? Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year. It is a bad idea to make our winter break longer than summer break because some students work over the summer, students are not getting the best education they could, and they will not have much time to spend with their family.
When I return to school after summer, I always struggle to remember anything from the months before. For this reason, I personally think kids should go to a year round school. Moreover, kids shouldn’t have such a long summer vacation. Students should go to a year-round school for more intersessions throughout the year, so they have less stress, it will be easier to remembering what they learned, and year-rounds schooling has smaller intersession you can use if you are falling behind, you can catch up.
Year round school eliminates regression of learning due to extended time off. Having a year round school can reduce what people known as summer learning loss ("The Pros"). Almost every child will experience a decrease in their math over the time of summer break each summer break ("SUMMER LEARNING"). “On an average students lose two months of reading skills over summer” ("SUMMER LEARNING"). After
The third reason why we shouldn’t have all year round –schools is because, its tradition to have 180 day’s strait with 3 months of breaks and it gives us more important things to do in the summer. According to Julia Sines, to have a 3-month summer and do more fun activities to do all summer is better than going to school year round. Kids want to go on vacations with their parents. Some athletic kids won’t be able to play travel sports. Scientist say that year round school kids drop out by their senior year (Sines). Most juniors and seniors work in the summer for money for colleges and to save up, but they won’t be able to get money. It’s more American to have 180 straight days with 3-month break. Billee Bussard stated, “It is an idea that has been tried and failed for more than 100 years,” (Sines). So talking to that quote, why would we start now. Kids love going outside and swimming and playing games and making money, but because the kids go to year round schools they only have 3 weeks to do these fun
In America most public schools go to school on a 10-month system established when America was mainly agriculture, and the children had to work in the fields during the summer. Year-round school was first used in the early 1900s to fight overcrowding and underfunding. It wasn’t until the 60s that year-round school was used again when a school in California became the first school to use it since 1904. I believe that the school schedule is fine the way it is. Some of the cons of year-round school are students can’t have summer jobs, most programs such as lunch and buses cost more, and extracurricular conflicts.
U.S. schools shouldn't switch to year-round school schedules for many reasons. Year round school can be unhealthy for kids for many reasons.
Having a year-round school system will cost more. The learners will not have a chance to look for summer jobs, some of the students depend on these jobs to meet their financial needs. Many students take up summer jobs so that they can save money to use in school or pay up for services that they need. Such a system will also cost the parents and guardians more; they should pay more fees in school so that the children can be kept in school longer. They also should give their children money for upkeep in
As a student who use to attend a year-round school, all schools should become year-round. Year-round education will be an improvement for students who have never been in a year round school. There are roughly 3,000 schools enrolled to Year-Round Education and more than 2 millions students in those Year-Round schools in the United States. Year-Round schooling would help students cut down on the amount of stress they develop throughout the year. When having a long 3 month summer break you will forget a lot of information that teachers had taught; but if you was to go to school for 9 weeks and get out for 3 weeks to come back to school and start the next 9 weeks of school. More counties should have year-round school to prevent students from dropping out. It is proven that less students drop out that go to year-round school instead of regular.
Concerning year round school, some people see no problem with what has been a part of Americana. It is a time for vacations, playing, and an all-around good time, but that is not the case for everyone. Transitioning to a more balanced year-round schedule still provides a decent break for children and faculty, as well as provide programs that enrich young minds, provide a safe place for kids who otherwise would have nowhere else to go, and it can help give those same kids a meal they would not have had available to
Should our school become a year round school? I do not think that our school should because people in year round do not get a good summer break. It is not fair to the students or teachers.
We should not have school year round. We would miss our family. If we did have school year round I think that some students would not pay attention, than what we already do for some of us. All students will be off topic, and insane. Reason why, we should not have school year round. We would want to be with our family for an example, Holidays. Holidays are special many people would admire being with their family of course. Being with your makes you very lighthearted, they make you burst out. It is marvelous being with your family and friends.
