Method Participants Altogether 457 participants were recruited through their tutorial classes in this research. The participants are doing a psychology unit in four campuses in Australian Catholic University. The campuses involved were Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Strathfield. The age of the participants varies across all ages. However, the calculated mean of the age is 20.75 years with a standard deviation of 5.58. The percentage of female participants is 74.7% which is higher than the percentage of male participants which were 25.3%. Materials The materials used in this research consist of a seven page questionnaire containing questions assessing mood, mathematical problems and pulse rate. There was 4 pages consisting 11 different …show more content…
Not only that, on the fourth page, there was another set of mathematical problems to be solve as fast as possible in three minutes. Then the fifth page consist of mood scale and again pulse rate is recorded. Then, they were instructed to sit quietly with their eyes closed for five minutes and 56 seconds. Lastly, the participants flips out the sixth page and rated their mood and pulse rate for another 60 seconds. On this page, their age and gender are also recorded. After all pages are put back into the pile, the researcher proceed to collect them back. The researcher then thanked the participants and debriefed them. Discussion This study was conducted in two different conditions in a repeated measure design to examined the changed in pulse rate and mood levels. The results collected were from the participants’ present moment of self reported mood and pulse rate. The hypothesis is accepted as shown in the results. After a session of MBSR, it has an effect by increasing the mood of participants than after the sitting quietly condition. There was also a higher decreased in pulse rate after a brief MBSR session than sitting quietly condition. The results can also be supported by previous studies such as the study of Hindman where he found that MBSR is capable in reducing stress. The changes could be measured in university students for both conditions also by testing their psychological distress (Hindman,
According to the course syllabus we were introduced to the techniques of psychological research. This course was able to provide an understanding of how research is done, and what methods we can use to do so. By having a clear understanding of research and techniques used, it allows us to communicate effectively in regards to ideas behind the research process. In this paper, I will use myself as the case study to examine exactly what I learned about research.
This article related to a few topics in psychology such as depression, anxiety, and stress. The author explains the
Undergraduate students enrolled in introductory personality psychology courses at The Pennsylvania State University from the Altoona and University Park campuses will be recruited for participation. All students enrolled in the courses will be required to complete the procedure for this study to earn a grade in the course, however, they will be required to give their consent to use their data in the present study in exchange for extra credit in the course. Those who do not consent to use their data will be omitted from the study and will be offered an alternative course assignment to earn the same amount of extra credit as those who opted to participate. Each participant’s age, race, and gender will be collected for use for comparison
People are increasingly facing more stress since the Human-Being society became developed and complicated, by ignoring the physical influence to our body, Human’s health suffered considerably from stress. Introductory Psychology students (N = 305) from a mid-western university participated in the study online for course credit. Sixty-eight percent of the participants identified as female, 32% of the participants identified as male, and one participant did not indicate their gender. The majority of the participants were Caucasian (73%), and the average age of the participants was 19.04 (SD = 1.10).
The sample for this study consisted of 222 participants who were second year psychology students from the University of Newcastle. All students were participating as part of a course requirement and all had given their consent to participating in the study.
The materials used for this study included PsychMate Student Version 2.0 (St. James, Walter Schneider and Amy Eschman.) Psychology Software Tools, Inc. Along with the PsychMate software, a computer provided by Queens College was used in order to successfully complete the study.
The Symptoms-Distress Checklist was used to identify the participants’ stress levels as well as any depressive symptoms. And lastly, a math exam was crafted to assess if the students’ test anxiety would be reduced. After Ankisola, Esther F., & Nwajei, Augustina D. (2013) had given out the measurements (excluding the math exam) for students to take, they only identified 72 participants to partake in the last phase of their study due to their high test anxiety levels. In the last phase, the researchers wanted to implement cognitive restructuring or deep breathing exercises. The participants were then separated into three groups. The first section of participants were in the control group, where they didn’t receive anything to help reduce their anxiety. Group two was given the deep breathing exercises and to do at least ten minute exercises 8 times. The last group was given cognitive restructuring, which had to be done 6 times for twenty minutes, and deep breathing exercises which was done the same as group two. Afterwards, all participants had to take the math exam under the same
The program calculated that 52 nursing students were needed for this study. The researchers created flyers with detailed information about the MBSR study. The inclusion criteria were posted on the nursing schools website and community board, which required the participants having no regular meditation and yoga practice within the past 6 months, no current psychiatric symptoms, and no physical contraindications to exercise. Then, students were randomly assigned to either the MBSR group or the waitlist control group. Students completed a demographic form and questionnaire on depression, anxiety, stress and mindfulness for the reference (Song & Lindquist, 2015).
Participants in this study were 119 undergraduate students from a Canadian university. Gender selection was 36 males and 83 women with ages ranging from 18 to 51 years. As an incentive, the Canadian university psychology department awarded the participants with course
102 students, 72 females, and 16 males and 14 who did not identify in upper division psychology classes from Missouri Southern State University participated in my experiment in return for extra credit. The age of the participants ranged from 19-74 years old with a mean of 25.53 (SD=9.06).
The study was conducted at Belmont University. The participants are from the introduction to psychology classes on campus. They were granted course credit in return for participating in the study. The age range is approximately 18 to 24, the average being blank #. There were blank # of females, and blank # of males. The study is confidential, everything is anonymous, and their participation was voluntary.
Approximately 168 participants, self-identifying female students from the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario will partake in this study. The participants will either volunteer to participate with the chance to win one $50 Stone road Mall gift card or to obtain credit towards their first-year psychology course. The participants will be asked to fill out a single online questionnaire that can be accessed from an electronic deceive (mobile device, desktop, laptop) and will take approximately twenty-five minutes to complete. Participants will be able to exit the online survey at any point without penalty.
Participants were 172 university students from the psychology faculty of an Australian university. Data was collected using a self-report on line survey. The survey used a
Moreover, the titles of all the selected papers reflect the contents of the research and the authors hold credible academic qualifications as well as health and psychological backgrounds. Additionally, all 7 articles include an abstract which according to Andrade (2011) provides a background to the research. The authors of the various articles clearly outline the rationale encompassing their research and include a justification of their methodology used. The authors also address ethical issues to support the right and welfare of the samples used for their studies. .
