WHAT IS BLACK CARBON:
Black Carbon (BC) has recently emerged as a major contributor to global climate change, possibly second only to CO2 as the main driver of change. BC particles strongly absorb sunlight and give soot its black color. BC is produced both naturally and by human activities as a result of the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuels, and biomass. Primary sources include emissions from diesel engines, cook stoves, wood burning and forest fires. Reducing CO2 emissions is essential to avert the worst impacts of future climate change, but CO2 has such a long atmospheric lifetime that it will take several decades for CO2 concentrations to begin to stabilize after emissions reductions begin. In contrast, BC remains in the atmosphere for only a few weeks, so cutting its emissions would immediately reduce the rate of warming, particularly in the rapidly changing Arctic. Moreover, reduced exposure to BC provides public health co-benefits, especially in developing countries. Technologies that can reduce global BC emissions are available today

In today’s world, the topic of energy is dominated by one thing: ancient organic matter. Carbon and oxygen that existed in this matter when it was alive is still present and is released in the form of carbon dioxide when the coal and oil it was compressed into is burned. The current assessment of carbon dioxide in the air is 402 parts per million (ppm). One PPM is equivalent to one microgram/one kilogram (0.6 of a mile). Black carbon has a negative influence on the climat and human health. When black carbon deposits on reflective object surfaces, it could darken these surfaces and cause a decrease in albedo ( percentage of reflected solar radiation from the object to space) . as an example of these surfaces; snow, ice, and white surfaces causing melting of snow and ice. CO2 is the most significant greenhouse gas, which mainly comes from the use of fossil fuels. Many people feel that content of CO2 in the atmosphere is the main reason for manmade global warming. The main sources of CO2 emissions involve electricity generation, industrial processes, fumes from transportation and commercial buildings and use. Emissions of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, to the atmosphere are expected to cause even more of a significant change in global climate (Davison, 2007). The main focus to try to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is to reduce the amount that is released from coal-fired power plants. Greenhouse gas emissions that involve the productions of electricity come from natural gas production and coal-fired power plant operations. Natural gas production accounts for twenty-four percent and coal-fired power plant operations accounts for seventy-five percent, while the other one percent is caused by other electricity generation operations. The main reason why coal-fired power plants have a higher percentage of emissions is because the sulfur content of coal is much higher than that of other fossil fuels (Jarmaillo et al., 2007). When we burn fossil fuels that could be coal, oil, or even to drive our cars to work, it could also be when we electricity to light up our homes or even making these products we will create carbon dioxide. Our atmosphere is not the only part of Earth that has carbon. The oceans store large masses of carbon, so does plants, soil, and drop offs of coal, oil and also natural gases deep underground. Carbon naturally moves around from one part of our planet to a different part of the Earth during what is known as the carbon cycle. Blue carbon ecosystems have unique characteristics that allow them to be incredibly efficient, natural carbon sinks. Coastal ecosystems tend to be underrated, but are slowly beginning to be recognised for their ability to sequester and store carbon at far greater efficiencies in comparison to terrestrial forests. A combination of natural and human processes over time has led to the deterioration of coastal ecosystems, risking the sustainable provisioning of environmental services that is provided by these ecosystems. With the value of these coastal environments are beginning to be recognised, there is a need for literature to focus on ways to protect and restore the ecosystems, and management strategies that must be implemented accordingly.
The issue of global warming should be on the list of our top priorities. Studies show that the average of global temperatures have risen since the Industrial Revolution began. Since the Industrial Revolution, human emissions has quadrupled the frequency of certain heat extremes and many scientists have warned that a failure to bring greenhouse gases under control could eventually lead to a 62-fold increase in extreme heat blasts (Gillis Justin A17). Most of the increase is due to human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. These activities contribute to a build-up in carbon dioxide and other gases in Earth’s atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere is made of gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide and oxygen. These gases act as a blanket that covers and gives us warmth, but once these gases such as carbon dioxide absorbs heat, but does not release it back into space in which causes the increase in global temperature. This is called the greenhouse effect because it only traps heat but does not release it.
