Stress is a killer – quite literally, in fact. And unlike junk food and beer, there is no guilty pleasure to make it interesting to occasionally dabble. No, stress is all bad and for that reason anyway that we can reduce it is going to be a life saver – again, quite literally. So here are three ideas that you might never have heard of that will help you manage your time better, get more done and get that stress monster to back off. The Eisenhower method “WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS SELDOM URGENT AND WHAT IS URGENT IS SELDOM IMPORTANT.” – President Eisenhower You’ve probably heard of to-do lists, where you write down everything you need to do and then work your way through it. The Eisenhower method is something like that, except that it’s just a tad more sophisticated and thereby a great deal more efficient. Start off by drawing a big plus sign. On the left-hand side, you write ‘important’ at the top and ‘not important’ at the bottom. Along the top, you write ‘urgent’ on the left and ‘not urgent’ on the right. In this way, you’ve created four boxes labeled ‘urgent and important’ at the top left through to ‘not urgent and not important’ on the bottom right. These cells serve as priorities. The ‘urgent and important’ box is for things that can’t be ignored. The kitchen is on fire. An irate customer is on the phone. You cut yourself and your spraying blood all over your pretty Eisenhower model (too visual?). The ‘important but not urgent’ box is for the tasks that will help you
