What makes a restaurant successful? There are many factors that come into play when considering opening a restaurant. You must look at many categories and be sure to cater the design, atmosphere, menu items, and even pricing down to a tee. I found articles written by professionals who have all had extensive experience in creating a restaurant from the ground up. While there is never a sure-fire way to make a restaurant, successful these are just some of the values that the top names in the industry consider to be important. I first looked at an article posted on Forbes.com written by Hester Lacey. Lacey (2014) in this article interviewed one of the biggest names in the restaurant field Des McDonald who has over 30 years’ experience. Des emphasized the basics such as, working the floor and understanding the flow of your business is the best way to run a successful one. Having knowledge and experience are important, but you can’t forget the business aspect of it either. “When I talk to people I employ these days, at whatever level, one question I ask often confuses them, and it’s ‘Do you know how to make money?’” (Des McDonald, 2014) . This statement struck me as powerful. It is solely the most important thing about opening a business but something rarely focused on by restaurant owners.
