Nowadays, one can very often hear the expression “real-time” ridesharing, instant or dynamic ridesharing, related to tech startup companies, who offer the public an opportunity to connect with ordinary drivers in real-time for ride arrangements through online platforms using mobile apps. The emergence of this new trend was possible due to the revolution in social networking and development and introduction of new technologies. However, according to the traditional definition, ridesharing is an activity of sharing a car journey to the driver’s destination through organized carpool and vanpool programs, when all travelers typically share the costs of those rides. Public and non-profit ridesharing or commuter-service programs have been part of the national transportation program for several decades, and typically depend on federal and local funding . According to the information from “’Real-Time’ Rideshare Research” conducted by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the major difficulty of describing the ridesharing activities is the lack of a common widely-accepted definition , which very often leads to confusion between distinguishing ridesharing activities from other transportation services. According to the description proposed in the research ridesharing is “the transportation of two or more individuals in a motor vehicle with a capacity not exceeding 15 passengers, when such transportation is incidental to

To launch our business we will be partnering with Airbnb, airports, hotels, and businesses. Partnering with Airbnb will allow us to accommodate customers who are looking for a car while they are staying at their Airbnb. Knowing a car will be handy for them to use at their selected destination will allow customers to choose and pick the best place for them to stay and it can all be done easily together when partnering with Airbnb. Partnering with airports will be another way to cater to customers needs. Having airports designate a select area for RIGHTRIDE’S cars will allow traveling customers to know that they will have a car to use while they are in whichever state they are traveling to. Hotels is also another partner that can help our product
Watching “SpongeBob SquarePants” as a child made me realize that owning a vehicle is vital in order to get our desire destinations safely and punctual. There were numerous occasions where I found myself dependent on others. Though there are countless of bus stops I can use for transportation, I am not comfortable riding in one. Walking is another type transportation I took for school and work. However, a rainy day impedes a travel by foot. Additionally, riding my bicycle was another way I got around. My errands require extensive transportation on a daily basis. I did not want to be a burden any further. Luckily, I discovered Uber. I am pleased and relieved that I have discovered a reliable way to get to my destinations at a reasonable price.
Compare this to the 36 seconds for a ride with an average price of $4.00 that NYC Uber passengers currently enjoy. Additionally, consider that it is already more cost effective to use a ride-sharing service rather own a car if you live in a city and drive less than 10,000 miles a year. This means that as automation advances, ride-sharing will increasingly be a cheaper and more attractive option and personal vehicles will greatly diminish. The future of transportation could conceivably be large fleets of autonomous vehicles serving as the central mode of transportation.
The author constructs the argument in this passage by explaining what the bike-sharing program is first, by doing so it intrigues the reader to the benefits of the program. The author talks about how New York City uses the bike-share system, then explains how the bike-share system is used around the world by bringing up the statics in Paris, France. The average amount of rentals each day in Paris is 75,000 per day and survies have taken place to determine the percent benefit.
We watched “Taken for a ride” documentary that finally gave an answer to my inquiries about American transportation. I am European and, before, I never quite understood why Americans use drive-ups, rather than doing healthy walking, and—why sitting in traffic for them seems natural, except for the fact that they have so big road arteries and easy free parking spaces, that function as incentive to drive, not to forget that gas prices (very high in Europe) here are very cheap. Moreover, since I started using the bus to commute to campus, I had an impression of some kind of stigma enveloping the bus system, as if it is in use for poor and minorities.
Ridesharing: If you commute on a regular basis, chances are you know others who travel to your same destination and could use a ride. When you arrange a rideshare program where you and others share the costs of using a taxi service, you can unlock additional savings. In addition, taking a cab will give you additional time to take care of work projects or get ready for the day—something you wouldn’t be able to do while driving.
Amy Westervelt’s article “Bike-Sharing Grows Up: New Revenue Models Turn a Nice Idea into Good Business” explains how bike-sharing programs work and what you can do to benefit your health. The bike sharing business that the author spoke about the sharing business in the small town in California that the author grew up in. This business came to naught because bikes were stolen and poorly managed. But the sharing business in Paris succeeded, and the bike-sharing businesses all around the world. Bike-sharing businesses became more fortuitous with improved bikes, advertising and funding. The bike-sharing program in Paris must have been managed a lot prominent with preferable schemes for bikes and the city that the program is in. They also had a
The use of ride-sharing applications has become a popular choice to travel from one destination to another. In the past, cities were dominated by the use of taxis as a means of ride choice. As technology and society has evolved, ride-share applications such as Lyft have become a dominating choice for travel. After completing a PEST and SWOT analysis, Lyft can analyze how to proceed going forward to continue its growth and success.
Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to strive for and meet in the near future.
Community Wheels will focus on providing one main service; transportation. Despite being limited to one service; the organization will go about providing this service in a variety of ways. As previously mentioned, Community Wheels will partner with Uber to provide rides; however, the organization will also attempt to make use of volunteer drivers. The partnership with Uber will entail clients requesting Uber for their transportation needs, with their payment being categorized by their level of income, requiring them to pay in-between 10% – 25% of their total trip cost (See the percentage breakdown for income in the Appendix C). The remaining balance will be paid by Community Wheels, and the partnering organization via a financial model in which Community Wheels bears a majority of the cost. Should the need for transportation be higher than the number of Uber vehicles available, volunteers from Community Wheels will drive the client. Unlike with Uber, Volunteers will not be paid by the rider, instead volunteers will be reimbursed for their mileage at the current government established rate. When using Volunteers, riders will not be responsible for any payment.
