1.) Paris, in the early 1960s. Jean-Louis Joubert is a serious but uptight stockbroker, married to Suzanne, a starchy class-conscious woman and father of two arrogant teenage boys, currently in a boarding school. The affluent man lives a steady yet boring life. At least until, due to fortuitous circumstances, Maria, the charming new maid at the service of Jean-Louis' family, makes him discover the servants' quarter on the sixth floor of the luxury building he owns and lives in. There live a crowd of lively Spanish maids who will help Jean-Louis to open to a new civilization and a new approach of life. It reveals certain aspects of French as well as its connections to Spain. Here we can see that during this time Brittany maids were slowly diminishing and that Spanish maids are becoming the craze due to their perseverance and compliance. As well as the fact that the only reason for a day-off is on Sunday mornings to go to Mass; an occurrence that didn’t happen before. Here we can see the impeccable manners Jean- Louis and his family employ especially when eating. Another would be that they can be vivacious as we can see in the party. In the depiction of food, the most prominent example would be the portrayal of a wine bottle, the finest that can be found in Bordeaux, which Mr. Joubert brought due to one of the maids upcoming nuptials. This is evidence that the French do know their wine and that it is something that will forever be ingrained in their lifestyle. Another would be their rococo-styled house with a slight modern twist; rococo is a style synonymous from King Louis XVI. Certain differences can be distinguished from the Australian lifestyle. In Sydney when going to the groceries for the 1st time, I was quite surprised and didn’t know what to answer when the cashier told me: “Hi Mate, how’s your day been?” In Australia you are very likely to engage a conversation with random people such as a cashier, a bartender or someone you come across in a quiet street. Generally, I would say that Aussies are very open to conversation and more polite than an average European person especially those like Suzanne (Mrs. Joubert). In Australia people would go for a handshake when meeting unknown people (whichever the gender) and they may have a shy touch cheek when saying hi to female friend. In this movie or in France to be exact, with females you would do two, three maybe even four touch cheeks and with a kissing sound, and a handshake for males! All in all,
