Economically, these shoes are not the cheapest kind to get, however people will continue to buy them because of the popularity and the role of the Nike shoe in society. Even the Nike symbol alone reminds people of sports and athletes. Nike has professional athletes who are admired by millions of people appear in their commercials. By doing this they are saying this person wears Nike, and that everyone else should too. This also can give the hope that if you wear this Nike shoe you will be just as good as this professional athlete that you admire.

Michael Jordan’s, Nike, Adidas and Puma their shoe sales went up in the 1980’s. Amber J. Keyset started to design different shoes starting with Michael Jordans. When one pair was released more people grew into them either for the style or the history behind the pair. “Sneakerhead;a person who collects trade and/or admires sneakers as a form of a hobby, knowledgeability on sneakers”(Powell). Sneakerhead culture impacted the society with its new look and style by making them more desirable and increasing the shoe industry.

Most people would think dropping hundreds if not thousands on a pair of shoes is crazy but I believe sneakers are essential.

Sneakers have been a part of human society for many decades. They are used on a daily bases by ordinary citizens, industrial workers, and athletes. One of the key parts of a shoe is the outsole, the layer that is in direct contact with surfaces. Ancient civilizations adapted the outsoles of their “sneakers” to their environment. Modern day sneaker companies determine the material and texture of their outsoles by examining the way their target consumers will use the product and by using the science of friction.

Not only are sneakers a part of my identity, they are a part of my self-expression as well. Listed in my top 5 favorites is my Air Jordan 7 Retro “Bordeaux”.
