Growing up I would always go with my Grandpa on his semi. I remember getting excited every time I got to go with him, not surprising considering he was pretty much the father I never had. But the one thing that always got me was the sound of that diesel engine in his Peterbuilt starting up. I don't know why but the loud noise of the diesel engine and the smell of the exhaust sparked my interest on how these massive rigs work, I even wanted to know about how my Grandpa's diesel pickup
In 2002 a joint project between International Navistar and the Ford Motor Company was born. “The goal of this project was to create an engine that was fuel efficient, emission compliant and would be able to outperform all of the competition” (Banks Power). With over 2 million ford super duty’s equipped with the 7.3l Powerstroke engine on the road, the new engine would have big shoes to fill. The engine that was to replace the outdated, underpowered and overall inadequate 7.3l Powerstroke was the International Navistar 6.0l turbo diesel.
The Cummins diesel engine was manufactured in the year 1919 by its creator Clessie Cummins. The Cummins was put in a variety of vehicles and the most common are in the dodge ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 series rams. It is also put into more heavy-duty trucks such as Peterbilt semis. The reason people choose Cummins over Chevy’s Duramax or Ford’s Powerstroke is because Cummins’ are built to last longer meaning they can go more hours without maintenance. The Cummins diesel engines have several different designs, and a number of different models, and assembling one takes money, time, effort, and knowledge.
Have you ever wondered how Detroit Diesel has become what it is today. Detroit Diesel Corporation manufactures diesel and alternative fuel engines for use in trucks, buses, commercial and pleasure marine craft, military and so on. This is how Detroit Diesel has progressed over the years with engines and help of other distributors and dealers.
My dad drove us nearly to the top or the mountain, right about tree line. We parked the truck at the opening of a canyon and geared up. We put on our orange and our fanny packs and grabbed our guns. I was using a Winchester 270 and my dad was using a Savage 7mm.
2. “ Because of their efficiency and durability, diesel engines have become the standard in powering trucks and buses. Other heavy vehicles and mobile equipment, including bulldozers and cranes, are also powered by diesel engines, as are many commercial boats, and some passenger cars and trucks. Diesel technicians handle many kinds of repairs. They may work on a vehicle’s electrical system, make major engine repairs, or retrofit exhaust systems with emission control systems to comply with pollution regulations. Diesel engine maintenance and repair is becoming more complex as engines and other components use more electronic systems to control their operation. For example, fuel injection and engine timing systems rely
It may be a diesel engine, but it does not feature the rocking or all of the noise that is associated with typical diesel engines. This is due to the Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber
I like how the diesel industry is always changing. There is always something new happening. I also like the fun competition of diesel drag races. There is something satisfying about making something like a big truck, hit high horsepower and speed.
The world we live in is surrounded by diesel engines. They are on the freeways, railways, airways, and are one of the leading electricity producers in the world. They are also becoming more popular in automobiles. These engines are efficient and reliable and they are getting very sophisticated. However, the physics behind these engines has not changed.
The diesel (internal combustion) engine has been a major source of power for transportation vehicles and industrial uses. The Australian railways have utilised diesel engines for regional and freight purposes since the early 1950 's. Despite the extensive history of the diesel engine, the efficiency of the modern internal combustion process ranges between 35% - 42%.[1] The losses in energy arise from heat losses and mechanical losses as illustrated in Fig 1.
The power of the truck's’ engine is symbolic for the American Eagle screaming off of the tailpipe. The truck’s performance, with the way they were made and how they were modified by other people has improved throughout the history of the diesel engine. They have developed more power and more torque including better looks and sound. Throughout history of the automobile, engines have continued improving. Ford started out with an engine like the 6.4 moving on to the 6.0 and finally creating the 7.3 engine. (Mike McGlothlin)
That first car ride home was crazy! That big ol’ metal box moves so fast! I love car rides, but it can be a little discombobulating if you aren’t used to it. So can motorcycles and bicycles, so lots of love and treats when we handle it well.
One summer my grandfather had been given the job to drive a semi-truck to New Mexico that would be roughly a week and a half long
So after I got my learner’s permit I was looking for my first car in my price range and It was very hard to find one within my price range that ran and had very little issues. On christmas i found out my great grandfather had cancer and was very sick so we rushed to the hospital in Hagerstown when he died later that night. It turned out even though he was 93 he was still driving daily he even drove himself to the hospital, well he had a light blue 1995 ford taurus that ran and had very little issues .
One of my all time favorite things to do is to ride the ATV. I first started riding the ATV when I was 6 months old with my Grandpa. I started to drive when I was 4 years old with my Grandpa. Then I started driving by myself when I was ten years old. Going on an ATV trip means spending time with my family and enjoying the sights in the mountains. On my last ATV trip I had a blast. It had rained so much that there was mud puddles everywhere. During a day trip ride with my Mom, Uncle John and Aunt Carmen we came across multiple puddles of mud. My Uncle John, Aunt Carmen and I drove our ATVs thru the mud puddles and got very dirty. My Mom totally avoided the mud puddles and we were all laughing at her! The last ride of that trip my Uncle John and I went on a night ride. My Mom made me promise to not drive thru the mud puddles. {I so didn’t listen!} Uncle John and I drove thru the biggest mud puddle ever. We were completely covered in mud. My Mom was very mad at me and said she didn’t want to hear any complaining if I got sick. Guess who got sick? My Mom who got a double ear infection and I didn’t even get a sniffle.
When I was a young child I would love to hear my parents tell me that we were going on a trip. I would be full of excitement, because I knew that we would be going to a place that I had never seen before. My parents, my brother, and I would pack our luggage and venture out in our small gray minivan. Three of my most cherished memories in our minivan are when we went to Disney World, the beach, and the mountains.
