1. Why did you decide to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds?
I enjoyed mathematics and science at school, in particular physics and so I was always heading towards a degree in a physical science or engineering. I was drawn to mechanical engineering because the programme was quite broad. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to specialise in when I decided to go to university and so I thought it would be sensible to keep things quite general. I chose to study at the University of Leeds because it’s in a great city and is one of the best universities in the country. The course structure also appealed to me a great deal. I liked how I would have the option to change my speciality after second year. This allowed me to make a much more informed decision on what area to specialise in during my third and fourth years.
2. What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?
The breadth of modules you study here at Leeds has definitely been one of the best aspects. You get exposed to a great deal of subjects which helps to widen both your knowledge and interests and also helps keep things exciting.
3. What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is a great place for students, there is no shortage of things to do and new places to go. The city centre has an

I thought a research project at the University of Leeds would be a great way to learn new skills and enhance my CV with relevant work experience. During my internship I was required to use various software packages such as SolidWorks, LabVIEW and Matlab to design and test components as well as analyse experimental data. As a result, my skills and confidence using these software packages improved
College comes at you quicker than you could imagine. And with being a junior in high school, college is all you think of. Sometimes the more you think about what you want to do the more stressful it can get. But you have to keep an idea of what career you'll want to pursue. East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, and the University of South Carolina offer many programs that would lead you to want to attend their university.
Theodore Roosevelt said, “A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.” A college education will give me the knowledge needed to do what I would of hoped to achieve in the first place. In my case, college will prepare me by giving me the tools needed to become successful in the classroom. This will better my knowledge when applying myself in real life situations. I am attending college in hopes to better my education, reach my culinary goals and experience the college life.
After four years of high school, there is only one goal I have in mind. That goal is to attend college. This is the next big step in my life. All the late nights I stayed up to complete school assignment was for this moment. All my hard work was has lead me to this point in life. College will open a whole new to me. A world where I can meet new people while working to improve my future. Why do I want to attend college though? Well I have three specific reasons for this decision.
I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I also hope that somewhere along the path to graduation and adulthood, I find myself as a person and develop ideas, opinions, and to be able to approach the world with an
Education has been around for many centuries, but recently in the past 150 to 200 years literacy has changed. College comes after receiving the basic educational skills in middle school and high school. It has been debated continuously whether continuing education to college is quite necessary, or if it is just a complete waste of time. Many compare and contrast this topic because college can be expensive and time consuming. College education can improve one’s life for the good however, college is not for everyone.
After getting many certifications in a couple of different areas I ended up at a dead end. Employers seem to care more about a degree than certifications, even know you know a lot of the same material from a degree.
Growing up, I heard the same questions. What do I want to be when I grow up? Am I going to attend college? If so which one? What am I going to study when I get there? Throughout my childhood, I was always taught if I wanted a good job with a high paying salary I would obtain it through higher education. As I grew up I understood that my college education was not about the money, but the core curriculum in the education.
“What college are you going to attend in the Fall?” “What will your major be?” What do you want to be when you grow up?” These three questions have come up in some shape or form as I was going through the college process my Junior and Senior years of high school. My answers were: “Whatever school gives me the most money. Biology. Pediatrician.” But can I answer all of these questions definitively now? Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is that, I can definitively say: “I attend Macaulay Honors College and Queens College.”
I was given the opportunity to attend the University of Florida summer institute. There were some questions we were asked to answer to show our ability in the Healthcare field and to prove ourselves on why we should be chosen to attend. The first question that was asked is… Why do you want to attend the Healthcare summer institute ? I thought over about this question contemplating back and forth on why I would like to attend. In the end I came up with; I feel like if attending would better my chance of become a Veterinarian in the future I would take the opportunity over and over again. I would love the opportunity to look at the campus and see how college students live. I’ve never toured the University of Florida's campus but I have been to the equestrian area many time before and have seen a lot of
Parents that have been raised in low income households have always wanted their kids to grow up and achieve more than they have. The main dream a parent has is for their children to be able to attend college, graduate, and obtain a career. I have grew up in the deep south of Georgia, raised in the country. Everyone in my family have always expected me to attend college based off of how intelligent I was in regular school. Now that I am here, I want to do more than just have a great career with a lot of money.
I know exactly what I want to be become. I want to become one of the greats, and discover things that could change someone’s entire life. I do not want to go into medicine for the money, or even the praise that would come along with being titled a neurosurgeon. I have decided to pursue medicine because I know that it will continually challenge me and push me past my limits.
Neither of my parents have had the opportunity to attend college. They have experienced many struggles in their personal and professional lives because of this. However their love and sacrifice keeps me going. I devote the time and energy necessary to succeed academically despite money being tight. Not only am I focused on my education, but I have also been active in my school and community outside of the classroom. I am an active member on the student council as Vice President. I do not play any instruments, however , I love singing and so I use my vocal instrument to express myself. I joined my schools vocal choir, Vocal Ensemble during my sophomore year and have been an active member as a soprano range singer ever since. Lastly I volunteer
More than just an Education As a college student, one of my main goals is to earn my degree in college and start working in the medical field. But, another thing I want to achieve is to gain knowledge that will help me survive the real world outside of just working. Attending USF will help me reach both of my goals because it is a Christian Liberal Arts School. Here, I will not only learn about Computer Science and Biology, but I will also be well rounded when I leave because of what our School is. The University of Sioux Falls will not only enable me to do what I love but it will also teach me important morals and creative topics that general education could not.
Most colleges/universities in the world are overpriced and it takes not only a lot of money, but also perfect grades and exceptional extracurriculars to be able to get into them and pursue the career you want. Smaller colleges are expensive as well, but not as overpriced like all the big colleges. I would prefer to attend a small college in a small town. For example, I chose to attend West Hills Coalinga because I thought it would be a great experience since it is a small college; I come from a small town, therefore I would fit in better there than in a big school. West Hills Coalinga has the same opportunities all colleges have, but not only that, you can save yourself many personal and financial expenses as well.
