Celebrities should have private life.
According to Oxford Dictionary (2014), a celebrity is a person who is famous especially in the entertainment or sports world. The fame of celebrities make public to be interested in their private lives. These public demands encourages the paparazzi, the freelance photographer, to target celebrities in order to take their photos (Nordhaus 1999, p.285). Nowadays, it clearly seems that celebrities have problems with their private lives. Their personal details flooded the cover page of daily periodicals such as Huffington Post or ‘OK!’ magazine. Celebrities always wish that they are blessed with privacy at least once in a blue moon. Unfortunately, the society enjoys those nude photos and private life details as entertainment. Although critics believe that the celebrities should lose their right to privacy because celebrities are known as public figures (Hodges 1994, p.207) and their life should be open to everyone, it is obvious that celebrities should still be entitled to privacy because human beings deserve privacy by the assurance of the law, there are also risks that celebrities’ family members will face mental depression

In order to allow privacy in celebrities’ lives, the major change need to be done is from the public. Without public demand, paparazzi will not be so desperate and aggressive when taking photos of celebrities. In 10-year-time from today, celebrities are more likely to gain their right to privacy and they are able to spend personal time with families without interference. This is because todays, government from different country are introducing more laws to protect the privacy of celebrities. This is the start of a new peaceful life of a
According to Webster dictionary, a celebrity is defined as a famous or celebrated person. Celebrities serves as role models, heroes, cultural commentators, charity spokespeople, and political candidates. An exploration of celebrity culture uncovers changing conceptions of legitimacy, authority, and credibility at play in our culture (The Hedgehog Review, 2005) .There is a celebrity culture that has engulfed Canada, and indeed North America for a while now because celebrity culture is alluring, even to those who are embarrassed to admit it. There has been increasing infiltration of celebrity culture into politics. The media might have deliberately and unwittingly contributed in perpetuating this celebrity culture.
Some of us would say “No”, but the majority of us would leap on the prospect of living the life of a celebrity. Who doesn’t want the perks of vacationing all over the world, having someone wait on you hand and foot, receiving freebies from designers and all the other perks that come with being a celebrity? The question is do we want the downfalls that come with fame? Can we handle vicious tabloid scrutiny, fabrications, and assumptions? Being a celebrity has its perks, but at what cost? Fame and money can be the root of all evil. Never the less, we are contributing to the madness when we purchase tabloid magazines, watch entertainment shows that follow celebrity activities and judge them for their actions.
Furthermore, by creating a bill or law against paparazzi, it’s not attempt to save the rich and famous. The famous still want the attention and limelight, but only when they are stepping down of their $100, 000 limo, dressed to sparkle like their jewelry and teeth. Understandably, they want fame that can be turned on and off like a switch, on their terms, when it’s convenient. Hence another reason why a law against paparazzi would be unwise. Celebrities themselves frequently have proved both creative and effective in dealing with the media they consider overly intrusive. For example, Actor George Clooney led a boycott of tabloid TV shows for what he considered intrusive and unfair coverage. As a result of the boycott, the shows changed their rules about what would be accepted and air.
Today, we can find tabloids and magazines on shelves of supermarkets or kiosks with pictures of celebrities or occasionally normal people who do not realize that they were photographed while they were in their home or enjoying their vacations. The motivation for those photographers who take those photos are probably the same which motivated Darwin Bonaparte to film John in the novel “Brave New World”. They aspire to be famous and wealthy. They are truly selfish, irresponsible and materialistic. Indeed, they gravely violate the right of those people to have privacy. For example, an article published in the USA Today mentions and presents different opinions about it,
A celebrity is not a person known for his/her talent or achievement, but an individual recognized for his/her reputation created by the media. The phase of stardom is slippery, and media may choose to represent celebrities varying from exaggerated admiration to mockery. The three texts chosen, movie "Sunset Boulevard", feature article "Over the Hilton" and television show "Celebrity Uncensored Six" are texts presenting different perception of celebrities than their usual images - either corrupted by the encircling media, overloads oneself with self-indulgence, or just mocks celebrity in a broad spectrum. Such media items empower and impresses the audience by perceiving celebrities as people who pay the price of privacy to gain well
Consequently, by conducting these actions, we are taking away their first amendment right. The value of the first amendment right is really grandiose and perhaps the most crucial right to have. For instance, the first amendment right has shaped the U.S.A to be distinctive from other countries. The first amendment gave everyone, not just common people, the entitlement to freely express themselves. However, with social media watching and judging their every move, it's hard to be a part of everyday life. Even going to the supermarket might have to require a distortion for the media. It's as though celebrities are being trapped in a prison. This is unjust because they never signed a contract agreeing to surrender their lives for the public. It's as if we are making people , who give up their privacy, like robots and force these "robots" to be on top of a cliff overlooking embarrassment and fear. All these people ever asked was to be open to public about his or her talent, not giving up their invaluable privacy. According to (Source A), it states,"It seems somewhat unfair to say that because a person's gift lies in acting, basketball, or singing, rather than, for example, engineering, architecture, or computer science, that he or she has somehow " chosen " to give up all of his or
The question of paparazzi threatening privacy and First Amendment rights is often to situational to argue in a conventional manner, but certainly there are many facets of the issue which can be addressed in a quite straightforward manner. Celebrities who feel they have the right to privacy in public places often muddy the waters of this issue. Oddly enough, those celebrities who have chosen to speak out against what they feel are violations of their privacy most always begin their campaigns with a large press conference. In other words, they gather together those people they wish to not only suppress but also berate in hopes that these people will use their positions and skills to
The right to privacy did help to take away the sodomy laws from the 13 states that had it. Every person is entitled to their own privacy when it comes with sexuality. The right of privacy is not only pertaining to sex and the issues surrounding it, this also encompasses medical and financial records although the limits have not yet been defined in these areas. The current views of people today are that they have a right to their privacy and with identity theft today it is very important to us. It is one of the most important factors to us today is our privacy, people find their medical histories are private and need not be shared with the general public as in the same case when it comes to financial records. This is the most moral of the dilemmas that may be encountered when laws are violated. An example is a drug history in a person’s medical history need not be shared with someone just because it is in their file; this is why there is patient and doctor confidentiality. In the current state of the country, people value their privacy as one of the most important aspects of their life and feel that it does not need to be shared with everyone or anyone. I am sure celebrities which they had a lot more privacy than they do, however they are destined to have people follow them for a piece of the action…..is this a violation of their right to privacy? Can they sue someone for not
That might sway the way a person thinks about that person. Celebrities have a right to their own private
Have you ever wondered what influences us to behave the way we do? Look a certain way? Or even looked for an explanation to what causes us to apply a certain perspective regarding personal and controversial issues? One of the answers to these questions may revolve around the influence we absorb from celebrities. A definitive term for celebrity is an iconic figure to a category or group who has achieved success in one or multiple aspects of their lives. As a result, these individuals have drawn in publicity and fame. Over the years with the advances in media and other forms of communication, celebrities have become topics of discussion worldwide, rather if it’s at school, with colleagues or at the dinner table, it is fair to say that
Celebrities are everywhere in the news, the latest gossip appears in the weekly magazines without fail. Whether they be an actor, athlete, dancer, designer, model, singer or just rich; there is someone out there who is watching that person like a hawk, not letting a single breath go unnoticed. Such is the life of the rich and famous, under the incessant gaze of journalists and the paparazzi. Lives that many people take a great interest in and admire to the point where others would liken this great interest and admiration to a cult-like worship of celebrities. This is a brief description of what I think to be celebrity culture.
As stated by Graeme Turner in Understanding Celebrity, ‘the contemporary celebrity will usually have emerged from the sports or entertainment industries; they will be highly visible through the media; and their private lives will attract greater public interest than their professional lives’ which is quite an accurate statement. A majority of the public believes that celebrities exist for the publics’ sake and combined with the statement ‘without us they are nobody’ it sort of correlates. But when you think about the fact that these are people too with feelings, families and private lives, not so much. The introduction of social media allowing everyday people to intrude on celebrities’ lives also breaks the barrier marginally. This allows for another level of interaction for personalities to reach out to the public and therefore can have massive impacts on their stardom. The function of celebrity is to be the ‘super human’. In fashion industries enormous pressure is put on models to remain ‘skinny and attractive’. This is where
Celebrities have a right to have their own privacy, and the paparazzi had better not be allowed to restrict their lives. Furthermore, photographers and journalists must not be permitted to make news that can influence celebrities' success adversely. The rights of celebrities for privacy have always been abused, so they need to defend their rights, despite their profession. Though they are public figures, this does not mean that the publish of every detail of their private lives is justifiable. It is legitimate to take pictures when they are at the stage or on the red carpet, yet most cases they must be left alone. However, the media always inclines to release both sensational and negative news to public. The latest pattern is the Chris Brown and Rihanna domestic abuse scandal ("Chris Brown and Rihanna: A Dangerous Relationship" 1). This really influenced Chris
Being a celebrity exposes them to the public, and many celebrities take advantage of this in many ways. from endorsing sportswear to sunglasses, sometimes you even see them supporting politicians. Regardless of their interest this is important because they are trusted by their fans and are believed to be a person with morals and integrity. Sometimes you can turn on
The downside of fame is the interference of the media in one’s life. Stories concerning celebrities are likely to attract customers, just for entertainment purposes. Celebrities’ life is publicized, criticized and mocked at. Reporting celebrities downfall seems to be particularly appealing to the public, and it seems that hardly a day passes without the news reporting a celebrity’s’ downfall. Some people are obsessed with famous people, their life styles, and have desire for more information. Media’s negative role destroys the famous people’s lives. Famous people deserve privacy and respect. This essay will discuss the unfair treatment received by famous people from the media.
