Why Public School Funding
Needs to Continue by:Ava Butts
I can understand why children want to come here, why parents want to send their kids here, but replacing public schools around the world with private schools is simply unrealistic. Have you ever thought about how much money you are spending each year, for multiple years to send your child to Acton? Have you thought about how much you could be saving if you just sent your child to public school? That could mean more vacations over spring break, summer break and winter break. Have you ever thought about how some families can't afford private school? What would they do if the world replaced all public schools with private schools? Their children would probably end up not attending school. Not only do you have to think about yourself when you decide if you are for or against public school funding, but you have to think about the community around you.

Because public schools are required to accept all people, you child will most likely be in a class of all different kinds of people. Since your child will be exposed to all sorts of different people, they will have an opportunity to learn about different cultures and families with different levels of income. They also might have an opportunity to work with kids that have mental and or physical disabilities, this can teach them to be more open-minded and accepting.
Public schools might also be a better option for your child if they are hoping to be able to attend a course in technology or art because the school has a specialized class designed to teach them that. On an extracurricular activity standpoint, public schools tend to have better sports teams that are more likely to get recognized by higher ranked colleges because of the previous year's and previous players. They also tend to have more after school clubs so more kids can get
The direct opposite of private schools is public schools that are free. These are generally poorly constructed and in lower income neighborhoods. These schools lack many of important structures to aid students in their academics, and even in most cases, they have less qualified people as instructors. Public schools are run by the government or its agency to my understanding. If that is the case, we are all witnesses to budget cuts that often go on in most countries including the United States. Such economic problems will eventually affect the public school system more than a private one due to private schools being managed by private agents who have many outside sources to fund the school. This is unlike the public ones which are managed by the government where anything negative that comes up due to its finances effects every learning institution in the end due to its dependence on the government for its funding. Comparing this to Kozol’s article, we can tell that Fremont High School is a Public School located in a lower income neighborhood.
If the child has a safe and secure home life then they tend too do a lot better at school and out of the home life as well.
In the “yes” side, Frederick Hess discusses how public schooling has already started to be redefined because of vouchers, charter schools, and home schooling. Hess mention that public school aren’t they use to and they varies way you can attend school. For instance, you can go to school on-line without ever leaving your house or take your class on the go. Opportunities like this help to create new way of educating student and don’t have to in a class room.
Education is a privilege that many American students take for granted. When students start the school year, what they are going to learn and how they are going to learn is already decided. This has been the method used for years and though, for the most part, it is a reliable system, it does not always prove to be the best method in low income schools (Spring). Public school education quality affects where it is located and its environment. The students that go to public school in impoverished areas are poor and their main focus is on them surviving day to day for the most part. They are not worried about obtaining good grades or learning but are more worried about having their basic needs met. So not only are they set up to fail because lack of education, but they do not have the money to improve their education or to go somewhere better. The environment these students are in does not make them successful, because the public school they are zoned for does not have the money to invest into the students, which in return results in the students having nothing to invest back into the environment, community, and others. Sadly, the school does not have the resources to improve the below average situation.
Public education is the most important form of education. It provides people with the common ability of social skills. Which can not be replaced with home school. Home school does not provide the amount of people and the situations that are presented to you at a public school. Some would argue that private school is better
The benefit to the child is that they can partake in activities with their peers rather than be left out. This ensures the child has maximum opportunities in school and doesn’t have to miss any lessons.
Education is an issue that touches everyone’s lives in one way or another. Whether you are a parent, student, teacher, taxpayer, or employee, the effects of education on society can be seen everyday. For this reason, public schools are a top concern among political leaders. Over the past twenty-five years, confidence in the nation’s public school system has dramatically declined. While the public for the most part seems to support their school district, criticism is not lacking. Recent years especially have shown dissipating support. It appears that the prevailing view is that public education, as a whole, is in bad condition and is in need of a renewed effort to fix it. Private schools seem to fare
But when a private school and a public school are analyzed side by side they are not much different. At the end of the day, it comes down to reputation and tradition. Most assume a school with a very good reputation and a very strong tradition will correlate to a very strong, academically motivated student body, but things change and many fail to realize how quick a reputation can be built up and or destroyed. School is school, and I truly believe that it doesn't matter where you go,( to an extent) all that matters is what one does with his or her
“Learning is so much more then filling in the right bubble.” said Obama. That quote was explaining how schools these days are just teaching for the test. They don’t teach anything about real life, and real life situations. There are two sides to my argument and those sides are ,1 Is the testing system is fine and does not need to be changed. 2 The testing system needs help and needs to be changed. I think the testing system needs to be changed because we focus only on test scores, stress, and we need to put in time and money.
While doing this research I found there are many advantages and disadvantages between the two types of schooling, public and prep schools. The main advantage I learned about attending a prep school is all of the classes are based off of college readiness. With having the students prepared for college, the schools main goal about 90% of all students who attend a prep school for at least 3 years
Many disagreed about schools closing down based on standardized test. Few individuals think that it's not necessary and that it's just wasting school funds and the government or states money. Closing a school for performance reason is usually ineffective. Closing schools and transferring students does it result in improvement in any student performance by standardized test scores , graduation or dropout. Many agrees that closing schools are not necessarily require because it's not going to give any improvement on the student's
Every weekday you wake up, get dressed, eat and go to school. When the bell rings you are expected to be in your seat and ready to listen to your teacher talk for an hour. Once the bell rings you drop and forget everything you are doing and move onto the next hour-long lesson. This bell rules your life and you pray every day to hear the bell so you can scurry out of class. You did this six times a day, five days a week, four weeks a month, for nine months, for twelve years. If you have the money you go to school for another four years. By the time you are done with this sixteen-year long process you are our in the free world and allowed to live and follow your passion. As long as you are in school you are forced to learn six different materials in one day.
When public schools were recognizably considered the largest user of property taxes in most states across the country, legislatures began to analyze the dependence of public schools on property taxes. In many states, the logical response was to shift funding dependence from local property taxes to state taxes such as income tax and sales tax. That has been done in many different ways and in different states. Still today, the dependence on local property taxes to fund public schools varies widely across the country. States in the Northeast typically continue to depend heavily on local property taxes for public schools. When traveling to the south and west, the funding mix shifts more heavily to state taxes and less on property taxes. Consequently,
Being able to use the tax money we usually use for public school toward the school we want our children to go sounds as a good idea. Because sometimes the school that they go because of where we leave do not even meet the requirements or is barely passing them. The teachers are no good for our standards. We might not like he school but is what we have and we just let them go.
The first amendment in The Constitution states that American citizens have the right to religiously express themselves. Although that is true, public schools should not be advertising clubs that would go against parents’ religious viewpoints. What if the child does not know what religion they identify under yet, or what if they are an atheist? These children might feel pressured and obligated to get involved spiritually in school, which can create awkward tension, arguments between peers, and violence. At such a young age, children should not be making life-changing decisions. As a result, this has been a controversial argument about whether religious clubs give children the opportunity to learn more and grow in their faith, or if these clubs do more harm to the children than it does good. Kids should just be kids and focus on who they want to be, not what someone else wants them to be. Religious clubs should not be allowed in school because they are concerning, there are a lot of rules and regulations, and they are a poor clout on kids.
