The species Panthera tigris, also known as tigers, have reddish-orange fur with black stripes. Unique characteristics of the tiger include scratching trees and using their urine to mark their territories. Their urine smells strongly of buttered popcorn. Like human fingerprints, the stripes on each tiger are unique. Tigers are completely blind for the first week of their life. Due to this, about half do not survive to adulthood. Tigers cannot purr.
