According to statistics, there are more students who drop out of college than graduate. Throughout high school we were taught the advantages of a college degree and why it is so important. So what is the cause behind the increase falling out of young adults in higher institutions? There can be many reasons why someone chooses to drop out of college. One of the main reasons could be an individual’s financial situation, though that may be the case there are many opportunities such as, college grants and scholarships. In some cases, the transition from high school to a college where you have to be independent can hurt you because, of the lack of support and contact from professors. The main benefit of having a college degree is a bigger paycheck. A college dropout will only earn about half as much as a college graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree, let alone an even higher education. According to research and statistics the more educated you are the richer you get. More than half the jobs in the United States require a post secondary education. This means that those who don’t have a post secondary education will have less job opportunities compared to those who have a post secondary education. Vincent Tinto was a researcher at Syracuse University who theorized the causes of college dropouts. He figured that a possible cause of dropping out of college could be the social assimilation with the college community.
