Why I Want To Be An Alpha Essay

The question was asked, why do I want to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha? Before answering the question, I would like to talk about myself as this will provide a greater context to my response.

My devotion and orderly work ethics have allowed me to achieve this. I have participated in some academically challenging activities like The Spelling Bee, in which I came in 2nd place. I am usually in charge in group school projects. In my opinion, leadership is not only showing people what to do and how to do it, it is for me to be independent and not to rely on anyone to do everything for me. Leadership makes me make my own decisions and helps me be more independent than I already am.

Future Business Leaders of America is a fast organization that has taught me a lot about leadership. I have held the office as secretary for our FBLA chapter for two years, and held the position as annual reporter the previous year. Myself and two other individuals created a community service project to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis; we competed at the state conference in Topeka, Kansas and received first place which qualified us to compete at the national level last summer in Atlanta, Georgia. It was an experience that I will never forget. I have also been a dedicated member of FFA for four years, I have held the position as Class vice president for three years, and I have been a member of National Honor Society for two years. National Honor Society is a service club that gives to the community and school. Service has taught me compassion and understanding. I trust that service is contagious. I have demonstrated excellence In leadership by being in Future Business Leaders of America ever since I was in my freshman year. I became secretary my freshman year, vice president my sophomore year, and will have acquired the privilege of becoming President my senior year. Being in FBLA has helped me not only grow as a member, but as a leader. Throughout my growth inside the club, I have been able to encourage others to join extracurricular activities, developing my interpersonal skills. Community service has also been a major part of my High School career. Whether it’s first preparing and painting the posters for an activity we are having, to being in charge of a fundraising event, my goal has always been to try to impact the community breaking

You should be able to lead a group of diverse people, without being a tyrant and taking total control. I believe that I have acquired this trait over many years of working with many different kinds of people. I am a part of the Twister Leadership Team, a group that meets during school to help make our community and school a better place. I have taken responsibility of leading events during school, such as running assemblies and conducting projects. During school assemblies, the rest of TLT and I work to make the assembly fun for all of the students.

This has kept me out of many of the elected leadership positions in our school. However, there are many other ways that I exemplify my role as a leader. One of these ways is by being a part of athletics. I have always felt like a leader in this environment, as I have always exceeded at sports. As an underclassman, I would be the one who helped out with cleaning up, and pushed my teammates to get better. Being apart of these smaller groups allows me to feel more comfortable when leading others. I also lead the team to getting better by helping to set up practices when the coaches were not allowed to coach in the off season. This made me a better leader in everyday life as I am now a more active leader. I lead in group projects, telling people what needs to be done and when. I make sure people are on track, and do not act out. Despite not being a leader to the many, I have still been able to make a big difference by being a leader in my everyday life as an athlete and a

Being a leader was never my strong suit, but I often put myself in situations that required me to improve. I would frequently see my younger family seeking advice but were often discouraged since they felt uncomfortable asking their elders. This led to me becoming their mentor because I experienced similar issues first due to being a first generation student.

When it comes to leadership the mores experience you have, the high chance of success the team has. National Honors Society is a brilliant program, in which it allows students to take part in programs that have a positive impact on the community. This would help me in the future because with the ability to be a leader I can see what works and what does not. Also with the lessons I learn about leadership I will be able to use it in my future career field. With the experience of being a leader, I can further my career by planning events with museums and exhibits.

I am intimately familiar with the workings of the club, as I have been involved in a leadership role from nearly the first day. While the rest of my fellow officers are seniors and will graduate this June, I hope to carry on in a leadership role and ensure the club we have worked so hard to establish will continue to flourish. Through my experiences this year, I know specifically which aspects of the club are running smoothly and which need more work; I know which of our efforts were successful, and which missed the mark. I hope to bring my knowledge to the NHS leadership team in my senior year so that the State High chapter will have a bright and stable future. Furthermore, I possess the qualities necessary to be a strong leader. In addition to my organizational abilities, I can communicate effectively and appropriately with both my peers and my teachers. I am dedicated to my work, and independently motivated to achieve success. I am an excellent team player, having had significant practice this year both leading a team as an officer and working within a team and delegating tasks as head of the Bunny Hop 5k advertising committee. There have also been people who have motivated me to be a leader, especially my high school orchestra director. At the end of my junior year, my director called me into his office and told me he would be moving me from the first violin section to the second violin section. He said he knew I was quiet in the back of the first violin section, but he could see I possessed the leadership skills necessary to sit in the front of the second violin section. This really motivated me to try and make him proud the next year at the front of the section. Many different aspects of my life have affected my leadership philosophy.

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at Cornell.

My name is Latifah Syeh and it is my aspiration to become a member of the alpha chi chapter of alpha kappa alpha sorority, inc. In my eyes, the purpose of alpha kappa alpha is to promote social change, equality, and personal growth through scholarship and leadership. These are all things that I want my legacy to be defined by. I am aspiring to join this sorority specifically because I want to walk in the path of those that I admire. I admire alpha women.

For as long as I can remember, I have always volunteered to lead in all of my classes. For example, I lead the yearbook Instagram account which requires a lot of effort and responsibility, but I am committed and never forget to post the photo of the week or spirit day photos. I also raise my hand anytime a teacher asks for a group leader for a project, activity, etc. All throughout elementary school, I took every opportunity I had to be a part of student council. In fifth grade, I got to be the historian. I have lots of experience leading the school with the responsibility of being the historian. As I was growing up, I naturally looked for ways to help my community. It was an concept that I was extremely fond and passionate about at an early age. Through this, leadership came easily and almost inherently. When high school came I emerged myself within the wide variety of activities. It was just an effortless tendency. In order for a leader to be a leader he/she must begin with the assumption that you are the one who matters most. As a leader you have to possess that level of confidence in yourself that you are capable of leading yourself “before you can lead others”. And when you develop this belief then you are better able of affirmative influence “on others”.
