For this scholarship, I wanted to make whoever is reading this short essay to know who I truly am and who I truly want to become. I am a 17-year-old girl with aspirations and dreams that I am determined to reach. Growing up in a religious family, I was always brought up with specific morals and values but that has shaped me into the person I am today. I grew up in a family where their education was not nearly as good as mine is today. Being the first one in my family to go to a four-year college makes me want to push harder to make them happy. As a young child, I always had an interest in cooking, reading, and playing tennis. The qualities that I have used doing these things has shaped me into the person I am today. These hobbies taught me …show more content…
Having the sense that I pushed myself the hardest I can and knowing that I won't stop as I further my education makes all of the obstacles worthwhile. Scholarships in a way have motivated me to do more as a student. I wanted to be able to do more like scholarships to benefit myself rather than having that feeling that I didn't do as much for myself then I should have. Being considered for a scholarship will give me the feeling that all the dedication that I've put into my work for the past four years was all worth it. Just the satisfaction of knowing that I put my all into it is just a good feeling as being awarded a scholarship. Scholarships are meant to push students farther in what they want so being able to do this has made me think of all the great things that can come out of things like this. I've never stopped trying at anything I've done and I will continue this as I go further in my education and career. I would like to advocate for my future students that always being able to motivate and have faith in yourself will always get you to you truly desire. I've had faith in myself as a student to try as hard as I possibly can to get these scholarships and to put my heart into
The foreclosure crisis is the second major financial dilemma of the twenty-first century. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. Secondary (downstream) problems making the financial crisis more complex include underemployment and business failures. Many banks,
Words cannot express my gratitude. Receiving the Bettye McDonald Caldwell and Fred T. Caldwell, Jr. scholarship is truly an honor! After the lottery scholarship, I end up having to pay for about half my tuition, which makes this gift is an incredible blessing. Going to school full-time and working full-time is a difficult balancing act, but not working is not an option. When I opened the email stating I had been awarded this scholarship, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment overtook me. It gave me a deep and powerful feeling of success. This scholarship award is proof to me that hard work does pay off. It is a motivator to work even harder to achieve my goals and reach my dream career. I sincerely thank you with every piece of my heart.
I want to help research and design robotic prosthetics that provide more natural movements and the sense of touch. Movement is one of the challenges that affect people with missing limbs the most. Having the ability to stand, walk, reach, and grab are tasks that do not come easy for them. They will always need assistance. Being on our high school robotics team, we built robots that could lift, throw, and grab objects. I would love to make robotic devices to help disabled people live normal lives. I recently had the opportunity to visit a facility for wounded soldiers at Ft Sam, TX. We learned how they fit and customize prosthetic arms and legs for the soldiers and how they benefit
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
My effort to serve my community have been an immensely important area that I always try to expand on. From my hundred and seventy service hours, I have learned that giving back even in small amounts positively affects the lives of the people involved. My favorite memories of serving my local area is during the special NJROTC ceremonies when I am able to see the wonderful faces of veterans and military families when we present the colors or the veteran with a flag. Through school, I have been able to see the faces of incoming freshmen in my workroom mature into the present sophomores and the students today. In my church, I am apart of the Ushering team which assists with the service every few weeks. Through this, I am able to see the bright
From the time I was born until the age of twelve, my family struggled with the basic necessities of life. My father worked endless hours in a factory, and yet somehow came home with a smile on his face. As a young kid, I never knew we were struggling. The thought had never occurred to me. As I got older I started to realize that my single father was working his life away to care and provide for his two little girls. He completely put aside his well-being because as long as his girls were cared for, nothing else mattered. Life was never easy, but as a young adult today, I have come to accept that my background has been a prerequisite for greatness, for it is our backgrounds that define who we are. The way we are raised, the way we are taught to believe, and the way we are taught to act, make us who we are today.
Scholarship can be defined as “academic study or achievement; learning at a high level.” I have always considered myself to be very driven and motivated when it comes to my education. I take pride in the fact that I have received “A honor roll” every year, thus far. But, up until this point, making good grades has come naturally and I have found that the longer I am in school, the more difficult making the grade becomes --
College has been a significant goal in my life after both of my brothers didn’t either go or finish college. As the youngest granddaughter in my family, I am the final opportunity for a complete educational track and successful career after. A scholarship will not only assist me in focusing more on my education than the need for the money to pay for my tuition and books, it will push me further towards completing my degrees and my pursuit of one day having a successful career. This scholarship is what I need to achieve my goals and make my education worth it for the
My goal of finishing this degree is like a delicious sundae I have a long time building, yet have not let myself indulge in. Every accomplishment has become a topping, making it more appealing. Receiving a scholarship would be a cherry on this grand sundae I have been preparing and will one day delight in, not on my own, but in harmony with my remarkably enduring
As my senior year comes around, it has become more real to me that I have to take charge of my future. I deserve and need this scholarship just as I need oxygen to breathe. Being the first in my family to attend college or even have the idea in their head means I’m on my own to discover what to do to get into college and how to come up with the means. I
Everything changed for me my last year of high school. Like most seniors I was busy applying to colleges, studying for tests, volunteering in the community and trying to figure out what I aspired to be when I grew up. I thought I wanted to be an Interior Designer and I traveled with my parents all over the country touring colleges that offered the major. I achieved good grades in school and I was accepted at several of the schools I applied to. Once I decided on a university I began my search for scholarships to help fund my education. By chance I ran across an audio scholarship contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The essay topic was about the importance of Veterans to our past and future. Because I was a military dependent this topic was near and dear to me. I worked really hard on my submission and to my surprise and my parent’s delight; I was selected as the winner for my state. The opportunities I experienced as a result of representing
I would like to be considered for an additional scholarship due to not only financial reasons but because I believe I can become a model Honors College student. I'm actively involved in multiple organizations on campus, I work part-time as a student assistant with the Honors College along with making sure I get good grades.
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
I am an African American college student that has overcome learning and physical challenges in my life. These challenges have molded me into the person I am today. I used to be a struggling student in school, but now I am a striving student. Hard work, determination, and perseverance would best describe me. I come from a family that’s very supportive and encouraging. Both my parents didn’t have much growing up and work hard to provide for my sister and I. I knew from an early age I wanted a job of the future that was all about helping people and making a difference. People in my life have always helped me with difficult hardships, from struggling with a learning disability to overcoming chronic scoliosis. One of my passions is helping others
To say that I deserve this scholarship more than anyone else who applies seems pretentious. My entire life I have been taught that nothing in life is owed to me, but rather I need to work my hardest to accomplish my goals and overcome obstacles. One of the obstacles I currently face is funding my college career. Scholarships and grants are imperative to not just me, but every student that does not have financial support from their parents. My parents are unable to contribute financially to my education, but support me wholeheartedly in my endeavors. For the last several years, I have maintained a full-time minimum wage job to help with books and some tuition; however my classes are requiring more of my time. In order to become a full-time
