Ever since the fourth grade, my mind was set on becoming a veterinarian. In middle school, I created a business plan to have my clinical practice connected to a pet shop. During high school, I began volunteering at Arch Creek Animal Clinic to gain hands-on experience. As a first-generation Latina, I have pushed myself to achieve the life that my parents were unable to attain. My father came with a goal in mind. Education is important to be able to make informed decisions, draw conclusions from stimuli around you, and make responsible choices for not just you but the people your choices will affect. Being educated on certain topics such as the world around you will make your life easier to navigate and persuade people to agree with you. Human nature is to look up to and follow your superiors, or in this case the educated people that you admire to show you the right and wrong way to think or do something. Those people we look up to are people like: Doctors, professors, scientists, parents, media people and more. All of who we trust because they are more educated on a certain topic. Being a veterinarian doesn't mean dealing with lots of cute animals, it means helping them and making sure they don't get hurt. Veterinarians didn't start in America it started in France. A veterinarian is a professional who practices veterinary medicine by treating diseases, disorders, and injuries in animals. Many people want to be a veterinarian, but there are many steps that have to be taken through college and after college to achieve this. Not only is there a lot of steps in the process to this career, but there are also not very many colleges to choose from. To become a veterinarian, there are many requirements and interests that one needs to have to be successful with the few college options that are available.

I chose technical education because I believed it was my best course of action to get me where I want to be in life as efficiently as possible. I had originally applied to an out-of-state university and got accepted. It took me nearly a year to realize this was not the best course of action for me, short-term or long-term. One night I realized it just wasn’t going to work. Finally, I sat my family down, we had a deep discussion and realized we could not pull it off.

I am your traditional cliché, I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian since before I can remember. There is nothing about this statement that makes me unique in any way. However, the road I have taken to get here has been far less traveled. The experience I have gained by not only my successes but my downfalls have given me the drive to succeed. When I was young I absolutely knew what I wanted to do with my life. I knew for sure I wanted to work with animals, not really knowing what all that would entail. As I grew up I didn’t believe that I had what it took to work with people in dire situations and with medicine, but I wanted to try anyhow to pursue veterinary career. I wanted to work with animals and if I couldn’t be a veterinary then I’d find another job that revolved around them.

What makes a Veterinarian career or job important? A student who researches the nature of a job, its working conditions, employment facts, the education and training, with the future job potential and earnings will be higher and more intelligent when figuring out a career they want. When doing a job like Veterinarian they are going to meet new people and be ready to learn new things everyday with the help of other people and animals.
