Why Is Animal Testing Necessary

Animal testing is a common practice in current life that is necessary to ensure the safety of the humans that will be using the tested product. There are many good and bad aspects of animal testing, but the pros clearly outweigh the cons. Animal testing has been around since ancient times when animals were dissected to gain knowledge about the body and organs. The animals killed from animal testing make up a tiny percentage of the total animals killed every year. When just considering the animals used for food compared to the animals used for testing, testing animals make up a mere 2.6 percent of that number. Public safety far outweighs the lives of the small amount of animals killed.

The issue of animal testing being bad is because of how inhumane testing labs can treat animals as subjects. The issue is controversial because while some believe that it helps benefit humans, others believe that there are other alternatives for helping humans.

Have you ever had a sick relative? If so, have they used medication to help with said illness? Well that medication had to have come from somewhere. Animal testing has help conduct products such as vaccines for smallpox, hypothermia, and other major diseases. Now take into consideration what might have happened to that relative without the medication. As you can tell, animal testing has a positive impact on society, despite what might be claimed to be unjust. I will be explaining why this is so, and how some of the arguments are irrelevant.

Animal testing takes thousands of animals lives each day. It should stop because so many animals are suffering and in pain. But, animal testing labs are also beneficial when they test on animals similar to humans. Animal testing is bad because the labs have small spaces and cages, the testing is painful, and it does not benefit humans medically.

There are some good things about animal testing but also bad things. The bad things of animal testing is that it can either kill animals or cause them long lasting harm. If the animal gets hurt during animal testing then it could heal but sometimes that’s not the case and some animals will suffer from permanent damage. That permanent damage might even be painful. The tests done on the animal may be painful as well. Some of the drugs and products that pass animal testing aren’t necessarily safe. Animals are also very different from people. The animal testing can also mislead researchers to ignoring potential cures and treatments for diseases and illnesses.

Animal testing is a huge problem. The methods used to test on them are dangerous and cruel. To measure the toxic effects, animals are forced to swallow or inhale massive quantities of a test substance or have the chemical smeared in their eyes and on their skin. This makes the animals endure severe abdominal pain, convulsions, seizures, paralysis and extreme internal and external bleeding. These horrific things happen to the animals before they are killed and eventually die from all the chemicals and toxins put on and in them. That is why animal testing is a big problem.

Animal testing is arrogant and incredibly cruel. Like us, animals can feel pain and fear ,but also excitement and satisfaction. Close contact with animals shows that they look forward to some extents ,and can clearly get a lot of enjoyment from their lives ,from basking in the sun ,exercising ,or eating their favorite food. Therefore having an animal used for testing can ruin its life by not experiencing what other animals go through. Animals are way happy when they can enjoy and roam around freely. Taking wild animals from their habitat for science testing can effective the wildlife population ,because it can mess up the wildlife

To conclude I think that animals testing is wrong because it harms the animals and they don't have to test animals. There are many ways to test using computer models where no living being is harmed and it is more cost effective. The more we spread awareness of this terrible practice the sooner we can end animal

One reason that animal testing is horrible is that animals are not able to have a say about being tested on. Animals are not able to specifically say if they are in discomfort. Most of the time they are put through tests that can and will cause severe pain to them. Researchers discriminate against animals because they are not able to maintain the same cognitive abilities that humans have because they cannot speak, or have moral judgment, (Con Animal, par. 10). There is no need for about 56 billion animals to die from failed experimental testing. The majority of research animals used are killed during or after the experiments. Their lives are forcibly taken for poor research that could have been fixed with the proper information, (Con Animal, par. 9). There are many good and bad things about animal testing. Everyone has a different opinion on animal testing. But not enough to fully tip the scale to the side that everyone likes. Some bad things about animal testing are that testing can harm the animals, substances may never be used, and testing is unnecessary.

First and foremost, animal testing is harmful to the animals. In statistics from the USDA, they state that over 100 million animals are killed in the U.S. annually from animal testing (USDA). George Dvorsky said, “it was a call to reduce the severity of distress, pain, and fear experienced by many lab animals.” (Dvorsky).

Animal testing, an apparent good, is used for the production of new medications and cosmetics. Whilst many argue that it is cruel and unjust to put animals under pain and discomfort for vanity, animal testing is required by law for medical research as drugs have many side effects and human life is valued more than those of animals.

Animal testing is also expensive and dangerous, for example it does not always show the most reliable results. To test animals you need to have a lot of money because most of the time the medicine does not work so they need to keep on testing which costs a lot of money. You also need to have a lot of medical tools, and a place to work, or a place to sponsor you and get you money, which costs a lot and takes up time. Animal testing is also dangerous because animals could end up getting extinct, like the gorillas and chimpanzees tested on, our endangered. Another reason it is dangerous is a animal could escape that has a disease and effect other people in the world. A gas could also leak out of somewhere and end up suffocating you

Animal testing has its pros and cons. If the animal testing is done on an animal that is on the verge of dying, or if it for a disease, then it is exceptional. The time when it is not, is for useless things that are not necessary for life. Numerous things that are useless, but are tested on animals on a daily basis
