Why Is Climate Change Wrong

We've all heard about global warming as well as climate change. Climate Change is the buildup of massive amounts of man made greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Causing the Earth's temperature to slowly rise over a long period of time.The amount of carbon dioxide in the air has increased rapidly over the years. Climate Change is a global problem and recently an issue more and more people are paying attention to.

Global warming is the recent and ongoing rise of temperature on a global scale. Over the past century, the Earth's average temperature has risen 1.4°F (Carlowicz, 2010). Global warming is the effect of an excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses trap heat from escaping back into space to keep the Earth from freezing, this is called the Greenhouse Effect. An excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap too much heat, thus, causing Earth's temperature to rise.

Global warming is defined as the recent increase in the world 's temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases (such as carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere. There are many different theories on whether global warming is similar or not to climate change. Simplistically, climate change is different because climate change is defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns or, in particular, a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels, having been measured over long periods of time, due to the changes in Earth’s orbit and organic carbon which reflect sunlight. Global warming and climate change are not to be confused because global warming is caused mainly by anthropogenic factors like the emission of carbon dioxide gas and use of fossil fuels whereas climate change is completely natural, however, according to Milan Radovanovic, “it is clear that the anthropogenic factors dominate the increasing temperature and the natural ones have the maximum influence…” (Radovanovic). Therefore, “the contribution to global warming from natural forcings and from natural internal variability is in the range between -0.2 to 0.2 [degrees] celsius over the period 1951-2010…” (Radovanovic). In order to understand the issue of global warming (also referred to as climate change), you must first understand what it means and how it happens. Global warming is a result of a process known as the greenhouse effect, in which the light and heat from the sun are trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere by greenhouse gases; which subsequently raises the average temperature on Earth. The greenhouse gases responsible for this process are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and tropospheric ozone, all of which are released into the atmosphere through naturally occurring processes (Warrick, R. & Farmer, G., 1990).

Unlike other problems in America; abortion, gay marriage, etc. climate change has a strong scientific consensus about the need for action. One can make a good case that abortion is good or bad. But can’t argue that based on the evidence, climate change is not happening. And just because most climate scientists believe that climate change is happening, does not mean that that any certain policy is the “right”

According to Melissa Denchek from the Natural Resources Defense Council, climate change is “a significant variation of average weather conditions” (Denchek). Many people in today’s society use the terms Global Warming and Climate change interchangeably when actually, global warming is more of a long-term trend of only increasing global temperatures and climate change can be a decrease or increase in climate patterns of a particular area or sector (Lineman).

The media always blows up issues to be dynamite when they are really just pop-its. The media likes to make things more dramatic than they actually are, and they will make a big deal out of a small situation, for example, global warming. The media enjoys to portray global warming like the Earth is going to blow up in a few months. Global warming is not a major issue right now because it does not affect human lives, the average temperature has not been significantly changing, and predictions about the impact of global warming have been proven wrong by professionals.

We all live and breathe on the same planet, yet why do some of us deny the hard evidence given by scientists and scholars? In Justin Gillis article in The New York Time, Climate Change is Complex, it explains how the effects of people and our lack of initiative to restore what we’ve damaged only furthers the deterioration of the Earth. As a society, we contribute to climate change, proven by the data of scientists on temperature increase, ocean rise, and intense weather changes of our world, due to our carelessness and refusal to pick up and take responsibility of our own pollution.

Climate change or global warming is the effect of greenhouse gas emissions, entering the atmosphere. Essentially the Sun’s rays enter the atmosphere and then are ‘blocked’ by these gases and prevented from leaving. The stored sun rays heat up the Earth, meaning rising sea levels because of the heated climate. Society is majorly impacted by the fatal issue and there are many views and opinions of what climate change is and what it will cause.

Thesis Statement: Global warming is a growing concern of scientists and researchers who believe that it is a serious problem for our planet. The concerns and research have also been questioned and have even been called myths. Millions of people find themselves affected by these weather pattern changes and are concerned for their futures. Activists on both sides of the argument are very passionate and not afraid to attack each other in every way they can. There are many questions that are still not answered, however, we continue to see drastic weather changes to Earth. We must go beyond the arguments and learn as much as we can to stop what could possibly lead to the destruction of our planet, our way of life and our future.

With the increase in temperature comes many other factors. These other nfacctors include but are not limited to the melting of ice around the world, acidic rain, and higher ocean levels. The greenhouse effect is when a greenhouse absorbs heat an radiation from the sun it subsequently increases the temperature of the house that plants are housed and grown.

Today, however, the phrase is most often used as climate change caused by humans. Climate change is also used commonly with another phrase – "global warming" – reflecting scientific observations of strong warming trends over the past century or so. Indicators like rising sea levels, retreating snow cover and glaciers, longer growing seasons and shifting wildlife has alarmed scientific community unanimously agreeing that the earth has warmed in the last century. Experts however are of the opinion that climate change is a more accurate phrase than global warming as the latter is just one component affecting the larger climate systems of the earth.
