Who Turned On the Furnace? Over the past few years, a very controversial topic that many scientists believe is a problem has been growing in discussion. The problem is climate change and global warming. Many people believe that climate change is only affecting the ice caps and polar bears; those people could not be more wrong. Climate change is affecting everyone. Climate change and global warming are not the same thing, but are closely related. This is a problem that most everyone in the world is in some way contributing to climate change; a solution must be found sooner rather than later. Climate change will ruin the earth one day if not stopped. The exact definition of global warming according to the Oxford dictionary is a gradual increase in overall temperature of earth’s atmosphere that is generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increasing levels of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. The definition of climate change according to the Oxford dictionary is a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular change from the mid to late 20th century caused by the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide secreted from fossil fuels (“Definition”).
