Health care is changing and growing and technology that is why continuing my education is so important to me. In the next 3 to 4 years I will achieve a degree in health services administration. The outlook for medical and health services managers is one of the faster growing career in health care in 2012- 22 there will be a 23% growth and the median is 92,812 to 110,840(Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, 2014-15). As an administrator or manger I can work in different facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes and group medical practices. One of the reason health services is on the raise is because people are living longer staying active and the baby boomers is hitting retirement age (Shi, L., & Singh, D. ,2013) pg. 79
This job has had an important role in the medical field for a long time, even though it has evolved through the years. The biggest spark in this career is that you do not need to attend more than 4-6 years of school and do not need to obtain a medical doctorate for this job. This job has an overall positive impact on society through the leadership role these workers play. The importance of this job is to make sure patients are receiving the proper care they deserve. Medical and Health Services Managers/Administrators are hard workers who have a big role in keeping the healthcare system intact. (Source 1).
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the healthcare industry is trending and is set to grow tremendously. This is seen very strongly in the outlook for CNAs as well as E.V.S., Medical Assistants, Phlebotomy and more. Indeed, the increase is projected to be as much as 20% by 2020, which is well above the national average. In real terms, this means that some 300,000 jobs are set to be created. This is, of course, a fantastic benefit, as is the fact that salary growth expectations also stand at 19%, CNAs or E.V.S., do not require a post-secondary degree and they are some of the highest paid in that category of people, and their salary is set to grow significantly. With this positive outlook on the health care industry job market, Lights of Zion is seeking to expand our existing programs to remove barriers & prepare more individuals to be trained to enter this industry.
The healthcare system in America started as a predominantly volunteer system where patients were required to pay little to nothing for treatment. Since it began, the healthcare industry has seen tremendous changes that have transformed it into a business entity which has operations like financial management, strategic planning and functional specialties to keep the industry viable. The industry is one of the largest in the country employing 15 million people with a projected increase of jobs with 3 million jobs annually. As the healthcare industry continues growing, services and personnel are changing, and various dynamics are coming into play to accommodate changes (Smith, Saunders, Stuckhardt, & McGinnis, 2013).
Obtaining a degree is my way to change that, and guarantee a future in which I will be able to independently raise and provide for my son. A degree in healthcare management is a stepping-stone to a diverse array of opportunities. Healthcare is an expanding field, and explicitly, healthcare management is growing faster than average.

According to Hunt (2013) “the industry was one of the few that continued to grow and hire during the Great Recession” (para. 6). With the help of Obamacare a more rapid change among job opportunities will be available in this practice (Hunt, 2013). Obamacare will most likely bring forth a shortage in our primary care physicians and nurses (Vincent, D., & Reed, P., 2014). This shortage will allow for an increasingly large amount of job opportunities in the nursing practice. A significant advancement “According to the report, Affordable Care Act of 2010: Creating Job Opportunities for Racially and Ethnically Diverse Populations, the healthcare sector could add 4.6 million jobs over the next decade - a 31 percent increase in the industry”(Hunt,2013, para.3). Such a modification is critical because the nursing practice will immensely grow to more suitable standards. There will be an increased number of people with health insurance therefor an increase number of people will seek medical help. When many more individuals are seeking medical help, hospitals will need to accommodate the large inflow of
The baby boomers are growing older and developing issue’s because of their age, their is more of a demand for health care workers. Their is a high demand for trained professionals in every area of health care because of the baby
Welcome to my Health Care Administration Capstone Portfolio. I am currently completing my Bachelors of Science Degree in Healthcare Administration at Polk State College. This portfolio includes the names of the courses I have taken, a brief description of each course, and the eleven outcomes that were necessary for me to learn and master. In addition, I have enclosed eleven essays that explain how I met the objectives of this degree, as well as I have provided many links to artifacts that show proof of the work that I have done to achieve my mastery.
There are many professions that individuals can seek with a Healthcare Administration degree. Social workers, mental health therapist, case managers and long term facilitators are just some of them. The expectant growth for healthcare occupations from 2014 to 2024 is 19 percent. This is a higher growth rate than with other occupations. With the continued reform to federal health insurance, which makes it easier for people to access insurance and the aging population, this could add 2.3 million jobs.
Through the opposing viewpoints database, I found a journal article called A Matter of Degrees, talking about education can come in different forms, and not necessarily limited to traditional college education. This will reinforce my argument that continuing your education is important. In the same database a journal article What can you do with that degree? College major and occupational status of college graduates over time, looks at the outcome of college graduates versus those who did not continue education. This will support my argument for continuing education and it is beneficial long term for higher salary and opportunities for career
Healthcare management is a great, complex, and dynamic field. Like any business, healthcare requires exceptional administration to keeps its operations effective and smooth. Notably, the healthcare field is constantly growing, calling for the expertise of skilled administrators with the capacity to manage hospitals. Since my childhood, I have enjoyed solving problems, helping people, caring about the community and individuals, and having an excellent compensation and growth opportunities.
I love continuing education. I feel that you can never know enough, due to the fact that there is always something new out in the community. People feel that a certain title brings prestige, which I agree it does, but no matter how insignificant your job title, there is a lesson to it. When I was a teenager I worked at Magic Landing (an amusement park) and Whataburger. The experience I took from each job was like day and night. The owner from Magic Landing would mistreat his employees and belittle them and the pay because we were all students was horrible. His mistreatment of his workers and his bad business tactics caused his employees to revolt and his customers to never come back. Whataburger on the other hand taught me how employees are an essential part of a team, and how clients are the core of a business. They send you to seminars to learn important skills to personalize service. I can say that it also teaches you about work ethic, responsibility, and even insignificant jobs like these, require detail and attention to the people we are serving. The next job I would like to mention because it taught me several valuable lessons is AT&T. The classic AT&T (before it was bought out by SBC) taught me about a new way of life. Their pay and benefits were non-comparable. My pay was as much as someone with a Master’s Degree. They put you through and intense 6 month program that teaches you top notch sales skills, customer services skills, phone etiquette, and how to
But to my disbelief during my public health research projects the results were contradictory. Most of the patients we surveyed were not satisfied with the medical/dental services and the reason for that dissatisfaction was not quality of clinical services it was administrative work and the increased cost of the medical/dental services. It became a dinner topic for my brother and me who being a doctor shared the same concerns. We attended conferences, seminars holistically researched on the topic of improving quality of healthcare and every time the answer came out to be effective administration skills, effective use of information technology. This answer laid the seeds of healthcare administration as a career for me. I joined a premier healthcare institution as an administration intern and with my hard work secured a position as business analyst with them.
The traditional approach to the healthcare workforce education can negatively affect the U.S. health care system. The traditional approach negatively affects the health workforce because it separates the health care system, provide little national health work force planning, and uses a supple and demand market system approach (Spetz & Chapman, 2015). These approaches leads to several shortcomings such as the need based demand may not adhere to budget realities, tied to current care delivery models, and treats health care professional independently (Spetz & Chapman, 2015). Each profession is treated as a separate unit and has its own separate training program as well such as associate degree for dental hygienists and RNs, whereas postgraduate
Most people understand the importance and value of continued education. Few people would argue that there comes a point when employees would not benefit from developing new skills and broadening their knowledge base.
