There are multitudes of reasons why people choose to go to college. A college education gives these people means to gain information and skills that can be utilized for as long as they live. The degree obtained from a higher education institution solidifies the credibility of the individual in the society. Although the opportunity to further one’s education is available to all who seek it, it may not necessarily be for everyone. For those who decide that college is not an endeavor they wish to pursue, there are a number of professions in the job market that require much less formal schooling. In fact, the quality of one’s life does not precisely correspond with the pursuit of higher education. The American media, however, seems to think otherwise, often portraying college as a social necessity and imposing a taboo attitude towards the notion of not attending college. For a lot of people, unbeknownst to their parents or financial aid providers, the cost of college is nothing more than paying to avoid the stigma of not getting a degree. In the majority of professions, college degrees are the norm. Most—if not all—of the people hiring concluded university and are surrounded by a populace that has done the same, so bias may easily be a factor in hiring a new employee of a different educational background. These employers ruminate whether it is reflective some weakness in intelligence or in character, when this is simply not the case.
