Because everyone would be dressed the same, students would not be bullied because of their clothing. In addition, uniforms promote safety because if an intruder walked into school, it would be easier to spot them because they would not be wearing the uniform” (quale 3). The modern trend in harassment is cyberbullying. Often, the cause of bullying is from society being different for not wearing the right clothes. 'It is incredibly sad to hear how many youngsters are bullied or isolated for not having the same clothes or accessories as their classmates” (Jacob). If somebody looks wealthier, most people feel like they have a higher social status or more control. Lack of parents support is the most significant reason for schools failing to implement any sort of school uniform code. Parents, teachers, and students should support the need for school uniforms in public schools so that they may be able to achieve higher educational goals. The issue of mandatory school uniform policies has been a highly debated topic for many years. Many school administrators believe that school-issued uniforms play a positive role in the student’s academic career. Research shows that the positive impacts school uniforms have on students far outweigh the negatives. In order to improve the American school system, the United States should adopt British policy, making school uniforms mandatory in all public schools.

The argument between to have or not have school uniforms has been an ongoing dispute ever since the use of them. I have first-hand experience of having school uniforms and having no school uniforms. I strongly believe that school uniforms are beneficial to an individual’s school success/experience.

At school should students have to have school uniforms? If you asked me then I would say no way to School uniforms, The uniforms look like crap or the uniforms don’t feel very good and everybody would make fun of you and think less of your school.

School uniforms would lift the burden of cost, for both parents and families. Students will naturally compete with each other, clothing is one area that could be eliminated. The wearing of fashionable clothing, while others feel the need to wear something extremely casual. For parents the burden of cost normally becomes theirs as children have to have, or wear certain types or brands of clothing. Thus competing with each other over clothes would end. How many parents have trouble with children picking out their clothes for school each morning? But, this family like every other family who lives in their neighborhood, is dirt poor. They scrounge for little pieces of metal to sell for a piece of bread. If they can’t even buy food, they can’t afford more than one school uniform. Sadly, this boy covered himself in gas and set himself on fire. The poor boy suffered from 65% of his body burned. With his really bad burns he needed lots of treatment. His family was so poor they couldn't afford treatment of $5,500, the boy's family paid one-tenth. The untreatable boy passed away on the Saturday a week after he burned himself, says a police officer in Shabqadar ( 13 year old boy).

Opponents think that when children select their own clothing, they can develop confidence and independence, vital characteristics through the personality development and adult success. Controlling extremely the socialization process of students will harm them as an adult, because they will not be prepared for the real world, indeed by their appearances. In addition, opponents argue that when students are limited about what they are going to wear, they will find other ways to offend the authority. Without a way out of expression in their clothes, they will turn out to other inappropriate alternatives of self-expression, such as nontraditional hair styles or make-up, or the worst revolting against school authorities and parents by the way they behave and act. It is obvious that children, especially those in middle and high school, are constantly concerned about their appearance that way, wearing a school uniform will minimize this concern. For example, in 2009, a group of students at John A. Ferguson Senior High School rebelled against their school uniforms. Instead of following their school uniform requirements, the students wore what they thought would be a better school uniform to school. Not only uniforms don’t earn schools the respect from its students, but it may also lead to more problems.

School systems have debated for years if they should make school uniforms mandatory for all students. Some parents do not want school systems to mandate uniforms due to pressure from their children to be able to maintain their individuality through clothing, while other parents prefer uniforms to reduce spending money on name brand school clothes and to minimize associations with gangs. More school systems across the United States of America are going to uniforms from grades one through twelve where students are still impressionable by their peers. I believe public schools should require students to wear school uniforms to help parents save money in these hard economic times, to limit the number of incidents of violence in the school systems due to gangs and gang associates such as colors, and to prepare students for the job force after school where some places make it mandatory to wear uniforms to work every day.

Public schools should not be allowed to require students to wear uniforms due to the financial burden for the less fortunate families. According to Toby helm on Saturday, 3 September 2011 “He says there is clear evidence that the costs to families are rising as schools become more demanding – and as more local authorities withdraw financial support for children moving from primary to secondary school.”(The guardian [2]) Many families do not have the money to go out and buy a school uniform and turn back around and buy casual clothes to wear on the weekends. Some kids get their school clothes at a consignment shop or hand downs from siblings, now how is that far to make people go buy expensive uniforms when there is no need to. Many schools are promoting the school uniform policy.
