Sports play a huge role in our lives. Everyone enjoys a sport in their own different ways: some do sports and others are just happy to watch it. Giving students opportunity to be part of sports in college will definitely have positive sides on college as well as on students. As an example, we can see how top colleges like Harvard or Stanford recruit young athletes. At the end, those athletes are making names for the schools. However, in our college situation is totally different. Even if we have established sports, they are not aimed to improve our college. However, we can reconstruct athletics of our school, and it will positively affect students, college, and it's budget. It is not rare that people become very successful thanks to sports.
Playing sports or even having the knowledge of them can result into happier and more social students. In the video Notebook: Kids and Sports, Katie Couric states, “Playing sports cannot only give kids more confidence, it can also give them more rewarding friendships” (Notebook). This implies that our school can be more successful if we have greater variety of sports kids can join. Although being happier and more social isn't the only benefit of being in sports.
Although sports may help increase levels of fitness and overall health, is it worth it if you end up breaking your bones anyways? Not to mention how some injuries would impact academics. Unless you want to pursue a career in athletics focusing too much on sports would do no benefits. Overall sports seem to have a negative effect on our youth participants. Not many realize how many injuries one can get, or how money wasted on sports impacts other students.
The NCAA believes “that a student-athlete is a student first and athlete second.” Student-athletes benefit more than from playing a sport that they love. The graduation rate is higher among the student athletes than the general student body. “NCAA studies show that student-athletes enjoy high levels of engagement in academics, athletics and community: have positive feeling about their overall athletics and academic experiences: attribute invaluable life skills to being a student-athlete: and are more likely to earn similar or higher wages after college than non-student athletes.”

The bodily harm that can be caused from playing at the collegiate can disastrous to players bodies for years to come. Each year there are thousands of injuries associated with playing college sports. While some maybe miner, others can cause irreversible damage that may leave players paralyzed or badly injured. Colleges and universities usually don’t continue to pay for medical coverage for those who are injured badly and need long term care. So, young players are left to fend for themselves with no way to pay for medical bills. They are putting their bodies and futures on the line to participate in sports that could result in permanent damage to their bodies. With such a high risk of calamity college students should be compensated to insure they have money they could use when they are unable to play college sports.

Last, the college athletes can learn how to interact with strangers by volunteering with their teams in the community.

College sports were introduced as intramurals to relieve stress caused by school. These games started out unregulated, injuring many players because the games became too aggressive. As the sports became more popular leagues started that would play other schools. Instead of school taking priority, athletes would skip days of school without having to come back. This lead to a negative impact on grades, which didn’t matter because there were no set rules for athletes. The National College Athletic Association, NCAA, formerly known as the Intercollegiate Athletic Association was founded in 1906. One of the main reasons it was created at this time is because football was almost wiped from colleges for being too dangerous, as were many other sports. Ultimately, they made rules that would protect athletes from being injured or exploited by their coaches or universities. Today the NCAA has many rules that all colleges, athletes, and coaches must abide by.
