Sense of Place At the beginning of this Wildside project I went on a trip to the Big Morongo Preserve. I discovered many things about Morongo Valley that I did not know before. The first thing I learned on my trip to the preserve was about the Antlion. I learned that they dig pits to trap insects like ants and other insects. I was able to find on the walk what I was informed was an Antlion pit. I also saw a stream of water with a rusty color in it. I was wondering if that color was caused by clay in the stream or mixed with metal. I also saw some trees that had obviously been in a fire, but now have some green at the top of the tree. I believe that the parts that were green are part of the tree that is still alive and healthy compared to the dead part of the tree. The nature walk made me interested in nature and made me want to learn more. …show more content…
These flowers fascinated my thoughts on nature. The first plant I found was the Mojave Aster, which I didn’t even know existed. I also discovered other beautiful plants, like the Datura, which I have always seen growing on the sides of roads. There are so many types of flowers in the desert and collecting plants for pressing has also made me more interested in my environment. When I visited the Joshua Tree National Park on a field trip with my class, I learned many facts about nature. Some plants can be as old as 2,000 years of age. I learned this when my group and I studied a Juniper bush. The way we determined the age by using the measurements of the width, the height, the circumference and diameter of the stem of the plant and then using the information in formulas or charts was very interesting to me and this type of activity has increased my love of
Featured are four of China’s most auspicious and culturally significant plants: rhododendrons, camellias, peonies and magnolias. These will be displayed as prize-winning cuts and talked about by several master gardeners during the Plant Talk Series.
One summer my parents informed my brother Ben and I we were going on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. I had never been so excited for anything in my life. I had a passion and love for nature, and being that Yellowstone had some of the most beautiful and interesting geological features on Earth, I knew I would have a blast. They said we would be going in a few weeks, and I literally couldn’t wait. I kept asking questions upon questions, and finally, my dad just got annoyed. “Go research it, Juliette.” He said. “The internet will know more than I do.” I took his advice and went to research Yellowstone.
I have always been interested in science, but the hands on experiments have helped me understand and grasp concepts much easier. I recall my first experiment in first grade when the class was given the lima bean sprout experiment, which required students to plant a bean in a paper cup. The purpose of this experiment was to teach us about photosynthesis and practice our observation skills. I recall how others were fascinated about why their sprout grew. I, on the other hand, was more captivated by why the other sprouts did not grow and the factors, which contributed to that outcome. This basic experiment taught me to look at things through different lenses and not always to the most obvious path.
If you see yuma right now you wouldn't tell that back when yuma became a town it flooded up most of the time and destroy everything in its way and it would be dangerous because it could kill people. The reason it would get flooded is back at that time they didn't have anything to control the water coming from the colorado river. The people that lived here notice that the soil in yuma is amazing and it would grow a lot of crops because of the water that would run through there when it would get flooded so they decide to build a dam that would help control the water so they would be able to grow crops and it was named the yuma project.
The life among the Eastern Woodlands was extremely different and interesting. It is very clear that they definitely had religious values. They had a church, or as classified, a place of assembly for prayer; along with prayer, they had dance ceremonies and a ceremonial fire. I can infer that they believed in a Great Spirit, which coordinated the world. I suspect that this world not only accommodated them, but also the plants and other surroundings. The corn is guarded, which definitely expresses how much it was valued in their society. There does not seem to be any animals present in the picture, which means they may have been used for food or clothing.
Now in existence for over 13 years, the Wounded Warrior Project aim to support all our wounded service men and women in our nation. Our Foundation continues to serves our veterans and service members who acquired or suffered a physical and, or mental injury during their military service after September 11, 2001. On that date, all of America watched in horror as terrorists attacked the twin towers in New York City, killing, and taking over 3,000 innocent lives. After those attacks, many young men and women volunteered to serve in the United States Military for the fight against terrorism.
Whenever I step outside, I like to look at my surroundings. I find nature very intriguing. The life all around me is something that motivates me to learn more and keep going forward. I enjoy learning new things and being able to find comfort in my environment. I like nature because it connects me to life and the importance of it. I learn to value all the life around me. I want to be able to take care of our environment and help it flourish and maintain it for the future of our generation. Being able to learn more about our environment and life itself fills my curiosity and motivates me to stay positive and focus on being the best version of myself. In learning, I also like to read different stories. One novel that I have read recently was The Maze Runner, which I found
For my UTEP event I went to the fossil and rock exhibit. Although I was limited to only a few exhibits, those exhibits were very interesting. Some of the exhibits that I saw were the rock, fossil and history exhibits. The one I found most interesting was the rock exhibit. This exhibit was made up of rocks found in this general area (El Paso New Mexico and Mexico). It had a wide range of rocks from crystals to quarts to obsidian rocks. The one I found most beautiful was the Calcite crystal. This crystal was from Durango Mexico and it almost looks like a white rose. This experience for me was very educational. I learned many things like, how the pressure on a rock can affect the way it looks and feels. I also learned that at one point El Paso

Also the anthropologist working on the project decided the best way was to have the people “telling their own story instead of having it told to them” (Jackson 2009, 6), yet that being so they didn’t seek to discourage the community either and all the work onto them but rather they were inturn “shaped by the suggestion of the diverse” (Baber 1998, 28) people which helped them try to accomplish the task set before them. Therefor all the projects whether it be The Other Side of Middleton by Elizabeth Campbell and Luke Lassiter, the project conducted on Central Avenue directed mainly by Susan Greenbaum, Jennifer Paul, M. Yvette Baber, and Cheryl R. Rodriguez, or Antoinette Jackson's research on conducting heritage research, they all have their
When I was in childhood, I used to go to the science museum with my parents. One day, I held an electrical and electronic experience at the science museum. It seemed difficult before the experiment but was really fun and exciting. The helper of the science museum praised me when I understood what was required with a lot of concentration. Later, I enjoyed making an electric circuit through a scientific kit, which I received as a gift.
