Rough Draft:
Many women in Rome were oppressed and held back by society, but there were a number of influential women in Ancient Rome, who specifically influenced politics. In Ancient Rome, women typically had jobs like bar maids or prostitutes, and were considered inferior to men. They did not have nearly as many rights as men did at that time. Despite this, some women managed to influence society in different ways. Some women had significant influence over men, for example Torrentius Neo’s wife, who had had influence over his business and was his business partner. Two other examples of women who had significant influence over men are Livia and Fulvia, who had influence over their husbands in politics. Livia also influenced her son, Tiberius, when he was Emperor of Rome. Women also had the power to make changes in society, like when a group a women joined together to repeal the Oppian Laws. In addition to influencing men and politics, they also held special positions in religion, like the Vestal Virgins, a group of women who remained virgins for 30 years and received rights that were unique to an average women in Rome. The goddess Diana, also was an influential figure in Religion, and represented women in a positive way. Some women in Ancient Rome had significant political influence in society, especially influence over males who are perceived as being more powerful than women in the ancient world.

Question: “Women received the vote based on their contribution to the war effort”. How accurate is this view that women gained the vote based solely on war work? 20 marks
In today’s society, there is often a misconception among women and men and the roles they are expected to follow through with. Although there has been advances in the way women are treated, it is unfortunately still an unbalanced dynamic in our society. From an early age, women are often persuaded, even if subconsciously, to follow a certain pathway in life. They are most often associated with staying home, keeping the house clean, cooking, baking, and raising children. Certain mediums that girls are exposed to tend to sway them towards these specific wants and aspirations. The way in which certain products are presented to little girls create an image they feel like they need to master. Men, on the other hand, are taught something completely different. They are regularly habituated with more masculine and self-reliant tasks. From an early age, they are automatically seen as people that deserve to be educated and use their smart, resourceful assets to contribute to society. They are without a doubt going to get a job and become a father and husband that provides for his family. In most situations, even if the woman has a job, men are the main “bread-winner.” Going along with this belief, the products boys are often marketed portray the idea of strength and independence. Whether it is a toy or a book, men are more often than not characterized as the heroic, more capable gender. There are many cases in which different mediums exhibit the ideas of men being the superior
A women's role has changed tremendously and is making its greatest impact in our society today. Many years ago, women's contribution to society was limited and controlled by men. Women are standing tall and are playing a major role in many important areas. Women's role has changed at an accelerating rate and have part in areas such as Politics, Professional Training Jobs, Medicine,Business and Law. Formerly they were not part of any political matter, but they have advanced in many aspects. For example, women have attained power and have been growing in political office.
The role of women within ancient Roman society is different to women in modern day society. Roman women have many responsibilities, roles and rights that they follow. They also had many restrictions to what they could do, and could not do such as getting divorced. Women were placed on the social structure according to where ever their male guardian was. If her father were a peasant, she would be too; if her husband were the emperor, she would be the empress etc. Ancient Roman woman had many strict marriage rights as well.
The 1800’s redefined who, what, and how women would continue to be represented in the United States. Prior to this era women’s roles in America were very limited; women had to abide by laws such as coverture. Men were the dominating force in social events, political events and in the economy. Nonetheless, women continued to fight these injustices and set multiple milestones during the 1800’s and the 1900’s. Several significant people and movements would attribute to these noteworthy milestones that women would overcome.
Have women in America really changed? During the twentieth century, women joined the work force and fought for the right to vote and equal pay. Yet, the many beauty ads in magazines prove that American women still remain obsessed with physical beauty. Foundation, mascara, and lipsticks are being important things these days and all the women cannot live without them any more. In the two ads that I choose, I sew the meanings of the true beauty, which is the inside beauty and how women should take care of it more than the outside beauty.
From its beginning childbirth had been a thing between women. Childbirth as a social event created an impenetrable support system of women rooted in the common song between those who give birth. Before the medicalization of childbirth, women knew a more autonomous procedure. Why did men decide that childbirth needed them? Almost instinctually, I believe that men saw the power of a united female population and trembled in its wake. The same way that white men trembled in the eye of flourishing black and brown continents and islands and destroyed them for their own enrichment. Throughout my research, it has been interesting to see an inherently feminine space, that never made room for men, being taken over by male intervention; what I will
Women have been a key part in United States history since the beginning, whether that means in economics, politics, or the social sphere. Women have continually been put below men as the “second sex.” However, without women every aspect of American life would be different. Women play a crucial role in consumerism, reform, and culture, which are all main parts of United States domestic life.
Within the United Stated of America, there has been the opinion that women have always been inferior to men in one way or another. Holding the title of Executive or owning a business, whether large or small, is no different, men seem to dominate these positions. However, entering into the business world is the same as entering into the business of people, which can give woman an advantage because of their people skills and abilities to communicate. It is more common to see male entrepreneur than it is for a female, but in recent years that has begun to change.
In our modern society there is a word that can be said that can make grown men cringe and conservative parents worry and strike up discussions and debates anywhere you go. This word carries a lot of weight but is never quite taken seriously. The word is known by many people but not fully understood by the masses. The word being referred to is Feminism and it is phenomenon that has been around for years but has been spreading through people everywhere. Feminism is a movement created to help everyone and make our society more positive and to rule out harmful gender roles in our culture.
Each day, the life of a woman gets harder within the societal structure of ‘beauty’. From their head to their toes they are told how to look, when it’s appropriate to look a certain way, and set to unrealistic standards in order to conform. It is not only a problem egged on by the male population, it also is increasingly noticed in the female population along with media coverage as well. One would think as far as the times have come that this idea of ‘beauty’ would be seen in everyone but unfortunately that is not the case. Pressures make women believe that they are not considered beautiful if they do not have magazine model bodies or they don’t have the face structure of a celebrity or they do something different than the norm with their hair or they are too short. It really is not a wonder why women struggle to feel pretty every day. False impressions are being put in the minds of youth and public by media that women just can’t live up to and shouldn’t have to. It all starts with the view society gets from mass media.
Spanning the history of humanity, groups of people have come together to fight for their civil rights and the chance at a better life. The United States had a series of revolutions with many wronged minorities demanding equality. Among these groups of people, women were a major group seeking liberation. The Feminist movement, both the First Wave and the Second Wave, achieved many of the goals its innovators sought to accomplish. Legally, women have gained much equality to men. However, the inner workings of society need to be revamped to eliminate all prejudices women face simply because they are women. The Feminist Movement has earned women a new status in society that was not possible fifty years ago, but
Women role in a society had always been a changing since prehistoric times so it could not be defined accurately. However there always has been a stereotype male figure in the society which nearly has not altered since the very first . Besides the women role also differed between religions and civilisations, for instance in early native American Tribes women were something deified , this however shifted and women no longer thought to be superior ,and quiet opposite they were considered to be inferior.
As a white female, I have experienced very little discrimination in my lifetime thus far because of my racial orientation. But, it has become very evident in our society today that many people do not live in the same state of mind, or living situation that I do. A sense of superiority plays a big role in the act of defining individuals, or rather perceiving another life to amount of lesser value than yours. A numerous amount of other individuals have been victimized for what they had no control over, whether it be their identified race or gender. However, there are two specific beliefs that have influenced my life specifically, Feminism and Catholicism.
The social role which I feel that I occupy and that I am going to focus on in this essay is the one of a women in this society. I believe I have been socialized into this role for numerous reasons. Throughout this paper I will explain how I think I have been socialized into this role.
